Pierre Bouvier on long-distance relationships
10th February 2012 // Permalink // No Comments

With how much the guys are travelling, it definitely can’t be the easiest thing to keep any relationships – with friends, family or girlfriends – working. The Canadian fashion magazine Flare sat down with Pierre right after he got back from his tour across Asia, to talk about touring, Canada and making long-distance relationships work.

You can read the interview below and also make sure to check out Pierre’s new photoshoot for the Flare magazine in the gallery.

You’ve toured all over the world. What can you only get in Canada that you look forward to?
Poutine and a good smoked meat sandwich.

Are Canadians the same across the country?
There are a few differences here and there but Canadians all have one thing in common: we’re very friendly people. It’s so easy to strike up a conversation with a stranger and end up becoming friends.

How do you pass the time when travelling?
We watch a lot of TV. I love Suits, Boardwalk Empire, American Dad and Bored to Death amongst others. It’s a great way to pass the time on those long flights and boring bus rides.

How do you maintain your relationship when you’re on tour?
Being in a relationship definitely comes with its challenges but it’s not too hard when you’re with someone who’s strong and smart and when you’re truly in love. It’s nice to have someone to talk to when times are tough on tour and coming back home is the best feeling when you know you have an amazing person waiting for you. If anything, it makes touring easier. I also believe that being apart sometimes reminds you how much you care and can’t be without the other, so in a weird way it can help a relationship.

Pierre mentions new DVD and EP with unreleased songs
23rd January 2012 // Permalink // No Comments

Earlier this month, we’ve found out that Simple Plan are currently working on another DVD, that would be a sequel to the very successful A Big Package For You – Simple Plan’s last DVD, released back in 2003. Apart from that, rumour had it the guys were even considering releasing an EP with some unreleased tracks, that Simple Plan wrote in the process of making their last album, yet they didn’t make it through the cut – and since the guys wrote more than 60 songs for Get Your Heart On!, there were MANY leftovers!

In a recent interview (thanks to CSP for the info), Pierre addressed this matter again:

“I think it’ll be a DVD containing a material of the choice of our fans. If possible, we’ll also release some songs that we never released before, because we know our fans want more and more. If possible, we’ll make a mini-album with the DVD in the next tour and I hope we finish it soon.”

The highs and lows of interviews from Asia
21st January 2012 // Permalink // 1 Comment

Simple Plan are having a marvellous time on their current tour across Asia and while the guys are kicking off the Japanese leg of the tour, let’s get back to the previous shows a bit and talk about the interviews the guys have made in the recent days.

You may have noticed I do not post many Simple Plan interviews here on SimplePlan.cz and rather focus on other stuff. One of the reasons why is that (as I’ve mentioned in my own interview with Simple Plan), the questions the reporters are asking the band just keep repeating themselves and therefore if you’re that kind of a fan who likes to keep track of all the interviews, after a while most of them start to seem repetitive and pointless.

So, instead, what I’m trying to do, is to show you those interviews that actually posess that certain spark that makes an interview either really good… or really bad – yes, I do believe even the slightly worse interviews tend to have a little spark and hilarity hidden somewhere deep inside (e.g. the legendary interview from Russia). :). As an exhibit A, feel free to compare the following two, which were done with Chuck and Sebastien in the last couple of days:

Fun in Asia Simple Plan style
16th January 2012 // Permalink // No Comments

Simple Plan arrived to Jakarta, Indonesia today, where a couple of fans already managed to stalk them at their hotel. And because today is a day off for them, the guys decided to enjoy their first night in Indonesia by going to a party in Jakarta. You can already check out a few pictures from this party in the gallery, as well as photos from yesterday, when Pierre, David and Jeff have been interviewed by the 93.1FM station in Singapore. Below you can also watch the whole interview captured on a video. I highly recommend it, it’s hilarious:

Alex Gaskarth (All Time Low): “Simple Plan are rad dudes!”
31st October 2011 // Permalink // 2 Comments

There is probably no other band than All Time Low, who would the Simple Plan fans agree the most upon as an opening act for any of their upcoming tours. At the beginning of the next year, the Canadian SP fans will be lucky to experience both of these bands on one tour, along with Marianas Trench.

But is there any chance of Simple Plan taking All Time Low with them for their upcoming spring European tour? According to Alex and his very cryptic answers in the recent interview for Property of Zack, there might be. If it is with Simple Plan, that’s still unknown, but both of the bands schedules are potentially free for a spring European tour together:

Are you looking forward to the Simple Plan run since it’s a support tour?

Yeah, tell me about it. It’s been fucking impossible to get support tours. We’re in a strange place right now where there aren’t a whole lot of bands where it makes sense for us to support I guess. We’re super excited about it though. Simple Plan are rad dudes. It’s another band that is making a comeback right now, and they put out a great record. Canada is their home too, so I think the tour is going to be absurd.

Will there possibly be a spring tour as well?
There’s potential for a spring tour after Simple Plan. I’m not sure yet what it’s going to be. We do have plans in the works though.

All Time Low have not toured Europe with their new album Dirty Work yet and since they have known the Simple Plan guys for a while now, and they are about to hit Canada together… SP might as well just could just take them to Europe with them. Would you like a SP/ATL tour in Europe?

SimplePlan.cz’s interview with Simple Plan’s opening band in Prague: Imodium
18th October 2011 // Permalink // No Comments

In case you have attended Simple Plan’s show in Prague this September, you have probably noticed the opening band – the local Czech band called “Imodium”.

The guys from Imodium were very nice to give me an interview and answer some questions about Simple Plan and their Prague show.

Check out the exclusive SimplePlan.cz interview below:

How exactly did you manage to get to be an opening band for Simple Plan in Prague on their most recent European tour?

Naturally, the first impulse must always come from the band that wants to be a part of a show like this – so our management sent a request for Imodium to be an opening band for Simple Plan. At that point you must also keep communicating with the Czech promoter, who is also your connection to the band’s management. And it was actually quite easy. It just usually takes a while till the main star’s management makes time for you and then you also wait if the band wants to choose the opening band themselves or not. If this was the case of Simple Plan as well, we’ll probably never know. But within a month we got a very nice reply that the band would love to have Imodium as their supporting band. :)

Have you received any feedback on your own show from Simple Plan?

Yes we did! The atmosphere in the backstage was really cool. Nobody was hiding from anybody, nobody was separated. Even when our Thom had to use the bathroom and we found out that the only one was in Simple Plan’s dressing room, he just entered the room, said hi to the band and went to the bathroom :) They are all humans – even the guys from Simple Plan. Anyway, about the feedback itself: our dressing room was right next to the stage, so everybody who went past it always dropped by. Pierre was the first one to show up, shook our hands and said some nice things about our show.

Did you have a chance to meet the band? What do you think about their music and the members? How did you enjoy their show?

Some of us have a few pictures with the guys. There was one funny moment when we were trying to get Pierre and co. to Rock Café to have a little afterparty. He said that the last time they were in Prague they had a few drinks somewhere, but this time they couldn’t because they had to travel to another country the same night! But they really wanted to hang out. They were really nice guys.. :)

You have already had the pleasure of opening for two big Canadian stars here in the Czech Republic: in 2008 for Avril Lavigne and this year for Simple Plan. Can you compare these two shows from the point of view of the opening band? Have you seen any differences in the way the management or the artists acted towards you?

When it comes to Simple Plan, the event had a very relaxed atmosphere. But that’s also because with Simple Plan our band already knew how to approach a show like this. When it comes to Avril, the show was in O2 Arena, which was sold-out – that means almost 15 000 people. It was our first experience with a huge production like that. The behaviour of the management is always the same – very professional. They usually reqire precision and obliging the rules, just like the main artist has to. There is nobody on shows like this who would intentionally try to harm you in any way.

What does performing as Simple Plan’s supporting band mean to you?

Of course a great experience, and also being able to play for people who you hope to (if they’re not already) become your fans too :) The audience’s reaction was beautiful, unexpected. Before we even had to try to force them to clap or something, they did it by themselves! There is never enough of experience like that…
