First Get Your Heart On! review: 74%
27th May 2011 // Permalink // 2 Comments

Critics have never been fond of Simple Plan. Not at all. For example on the music server AbsolutePunk, the reviewes on Simple Plan’s third album were really bad. “Simple Plan” got only 24% with reviewers comments like: “As Bouvier begs and pleads for the subject of the song to stay and croons, “You know it’s not the end,” the listener begins to wish it was,” and as such this album has been labeled as “by far their worst effort”.

Although, with the coming of the 4th Simple Plan’s studio album Get Your Heart On! (that is being released on June 21st), it seems like something has changed severely. The first review (by Joe DeAndrea on AbsolutePunk) of the yet un-released new Simple Plan record has given it 74% and marked it as “the best album of their career, and one of the best in the genre thus far in 2011!”

When it comes to the songs, according to DeAndrea K’Naan’s collaboration on Simple Plan’s “Summer Paradise” sounds like “a song that Plain White T’s wish they could write..”, “You Suck At Love” is considered to be “the biggest hook the band has ever written” and the slowest tracks like Astronaut and Gone Too Soon are also apparently very catchy and strong.

A lot of people have been confronting the upcoming All Time Low’s record (that by the way includes Time Bomb, written by SP – and on the other hand, Alex (ATL) sings on the new SP record): and it seems like Simple Plan’s Get Your Heart On! could actually be a winner of this little competition. Although Dirty Work (All Time Low) and Get Your Heart On! (Simple Plan) both got 74% in their AbsolutePunk’s reviews, the “lasting value” of Simple Plan’s record is thought to be much higher (SP: 9,5/10 – ATL: 6,5/10).

Even though this review has been pretty harsh at Simple Plan at times: e.g. their lyrics are still considered to be absolutely “ridiculous”; he overall image of Simple Plan’s new album from DeAndrea ‘s point of view looks very promising. Even fans, who were already lucky enough to hear most of the songs from it say their greatest comeback: with music that indicated a return to their roots, but to the next level: witty, fun and real.

Mini-news from the last few weeks
22nd May 2011 // Permalink // 2 Comments

Because there has been a lot of very short news about Simple Plan in the last couple of weeks and due to much more important news (about the new album, music videos, singles etc.), there just wasn’t time to post about them, I have decided to sum them up in one article. Check them out:

Simple Plan and Marie-Mai in Francie
Simple Plan’s official website published a very interesting news about the upcoming SP show in France, on June 7th: Simple Plan will welcome to the stage of this very intimate concert their fellow canadian singer Marie-Mai and together they will perform their first single Jet Lag for the first time outside Canada.

Canada Sings to air on Global TV in August
Few weeks ago, Pierre Bouvier from Simple Plan finished the shooting of a new Canadian TV competition show called “Canada Sings” (which is being compared to a cross-over between Idol and Glee), which he attended as one of the judges, alongside Jane Arden and Vanilla Ice. According to Canadian Business, Global TV will start airing the show this summer – on August 10th 2011.

New photos from the Get Your Heart On! photoshoot
The official Simple Plan website has been through a lot of changes in the past couple of days, thanks to which we now have lots and lots of new photos, which were taken to promote Simple Plan’s new album Get Your Heart On! and as such were used in the website’s design. You can now check them out in the gallery.

Where are Simple Plan heading in November?
That’s a really good question. A lot of rumours about the upcoming brazilian festival called SWU (taking place in November) have been spreading around: mostly about which particular bands will be performing on the festival. People are talking about Foo Fighters, MGMT, and also about Simple Plan as the hot candidates. Though, none of the speculations have been confirmed yet. Plus, we have to take in account the fact, that Simple Plan are also rumoured to do a European tour in November with You Me At Six.

Intimate SP show for MusiquePlus
As a part of the promotion of their new album, Simple Plan will perform on an intimate show on June 20th (one day before the album’s release) in L’Astral, in Montreal. The whole show will be documented by MusiquePlus two days later. Fans can win 30 pairs of VIP tickets through MusiquePlus and as such be able not only to attend the show, but also personally meet the members of the band.

David on stage with Face To Face
It’s no mystery that David loves to sometimes play onstage with other bands than Simple Plan. For example, last year, you could’ve seen him play drums for the song “Looks Minus Substance” with The New Cities. But this week, David switched to another band, his teen idols, Face To Face, to play bass with them on their recent show. You can check out David making his “dream come true” on YouTube.

EW’s review of “Jet Lag”
Simple Plan’s first single “Jet Lag” is doing very well – and not only on the radio charts. The American magazine Entertainment Weekly has recently published a short review of the song, giving it a “B+” rating, marking it as a “loud and surprisingly lovely pop-punk pounder about intercontinental relationships.”, and adding that “with the next Blink 182 album still MIA, this will do just fine.” As the critics are usually not very fond of Simple Plan’s work, we should take this review as a huge success.

“Untitled” music video yet again to prevent from drunk-driving
And a little cherry on top: in the state of Virginia, special ceremonies are being held three times a week for the young drivers-to-be and their parents, in order to inform them about the possible consequences of risky driving. To draw the attention of the young people, the policemen decided to begin the ceremony with the showing of Simple Plan’s music video for the song Untitled (How Could This Happen To Me?). Among other things, the video deals with the effects that drunk-driving can have on entire families. This is not the first time that this video has been used to alert people from taking such risks while driving – Untitled has also been a part of the Don’t Drink And Drive campaign.

31st March 2011 // Permalink // No Comments

Yesterday was definitely filled with news – but not all of them were concerning the new song – Simple Plan have also come up with a new design of their official website SimplePlan.com. It’s only a temporary layout – before the launch of the real new version of the site for the ucoming album, yet it still offers lots of cool new functions: from the mobile stream of the guy’s Twitpics till the member registration (for free) and ability to create your own SimplePlan.com profile.

Well, check it out for yourself:

Pierre to judge contestants of “Canada Sings”
15th March 2011 // Permalink // No Comments

Source: CNW Group

The Canadian station Global TV has confirmed todaz in its official press release that there is a new singing reality show in works, called “Canada Sings”. One could desribe the concept of the reality show as something between Idol and the TV series GLEE. Competing against each other will be twelve glee clubs, formed in workplaces (among them teams from Air Canada, Toronto ZOO and others).

“Canada Sings is not your average singing competition. For most, it’s next to impossible to imagine singing with your boss or workmate in a chorus, but for our twelve courageous teams, it has become an exciting reality,” commented Barb Williams, Senior Vice-President, Content, Shaw Media. The charities that each of the teams have chosen, will be in case of team’s winning financially rewarded.

The show will be hosted by ET Canada’s Matte Babel, who will be joined by three main judges: Jann Arden (Canadian singer), Vanilla Ice (American rapper, mostly known for his hit-song “Ice, Ice Baby”) and last, but definitely not the least, our very own Pierre Bouvier, the lead singer of Simple Plan.

Each of the aired episodes (6 x 1 hour) will feature two competing teams with the judging panel declaring the winning glee club at the end of the hour. The brodcast date of Canada Sings is yet to be confirmed by Global TV.

And in case you are in Toronto this Wednesday or Thursday, you can book free tickets for the taping of the show. More info in the press release of Coalition Entertainment.
