Simple Plan meet a loyal fan fulfilling his dying wish

A very beautiful and emotional meeting took place on July 7th at the Eau Grand Air festival in Baie-Comeau in the Canadian province of Quebec. Jimmy-James Grégoire, a 21-year-old boy, who suffers from progressive spinal muscular atrophy, was able to check off one of his last wishes: to finally meet his favorite band: Simple Plan just a few weeks before peacefully passing away by his own choice.

For Jimmy-James, Simple Plan have meant a great deal for a huge part of his life as he was often seen wandering the streets of Sept-Îles and Uashat with his motorized wheelchair and his loudspeaker blasting Simple Plan songs. “Their songs bring me closer to my own story, they represent many things. I already have my Simple Plan playlist for when I die,” noting that his favorite song is ‘A Million Pictures Of You’.

According to the article by Le Manic (which brought us Jimmy-James’ story), during their performance at the festival, Simple Plan dedicated a song to Jimmy-James while the crowd cheered him on by shouting his name. He even received a special guitar solo from Jeff Stinco. “It was beautiful, they are lovely people. So friendly in person,” Jimmy-James said after meeting his music heroes.

The members of Simple Plan were touched immensely by Jimmy-James’ story. “It’s touching. We’re happy to bring him a little bit of happiness by being able to do that for him. It warms our hearts,” shared Pierre Bouvier to Le Manic. According to Jeff Stinco “one of the roles of music is to accompany people in all moments of their lives,” adding that he was happy to know that his band’s music accompanied this boy during his and will continue doing so until the very end. And finally, Chuck Comeau concluded: “It makes me very humble to know the difference we’ve made for him. Experiencing this kind of situation helps us too and allows us to become better people.”

As his condition makes him suffer every day, he feels great pain both physically and mentally. Because of that Jimmy-James has made a personal decision to die of his own will and has requested medical assistance in dying on the day of his 22nd birthday on July 24th 2023. May the music follow him on!

Simple Plan to make a cameo appearance in a new movie ‘Summertime Dropouts’

A newly released press release about an upcoming “pop-punk musical film” called ‘Summertime Dropouts’ just revealed that Simple Plan are tied to the movie by making a small cameo in it.

Assuming from the film’s synopsis, it seems Simple Plan might be playing themselves – and their scenes are being filmed this week. It is currently however unknown whether their songs will be featured on the film’s soundtrack or not. Check out what the movie is about:

The film inspired by the music of a pop punk band of the same name, captures the story of a group of friends following their dreams and fighting for a chance to play on Warped Tour. We deliver a fun and timely message that can resonate with young and old alike. Some social topics that the film covers are the fact that life’s worth living, there is more to life than just everyday-buzz, and standing up to bullying.

Besides making a cameo appearance in the movie, from the already released images and videos, published by some of the actors on their Instagrams, we can already tell that Simple Plan might play a key role as the pop-punk idols to the young bands who’s story this movie follows.

For instance, we can find Simple Plan promo pictures plastered all over the wall in a rehearsal scene, published by actor Takaya Abdou Lloyd (@tacairo), while actor Nicholas Podany can be seen wearing a rather old-school Simple Plan t-shirt (at least judging by the font on the logo) in a picture published by his co-star Aaron Courteau (@aaronjosephcourteau):

Summertime Dropouts continues filming this week in Minnesota and its premiere is currently being planned for the summer of 2019.

Simple Plan set to release a Blink-182 cover album!

HAPPY APRIL FOOLS’ DAY!

Simple Plan surely like to surprise us! Who would have thought that during all these past few months, when the band members were supposedly on “vacation”, they have been in fact all locked in the studio recording a very special surprise album!

In order to make the wait for the upcoming sixth SP album more bearable for their hardcore fans, Simple Plan decided to release a special Blink-182 cover album entitled “My Aliens Exist: A Blink-182 Cover Compilation” (which fans of both bands may see as a clever play on words from the titles of two certain Simple Plan and Blink-182 songs). The cover album is due to come out on June 31st 2018 and you can already pre-order it here [and make sure to also check out the album art on the right].

In a press release, Simple Plan’s drummer Chuck Comeau noted how important Blink-182 has been in the formation of Simple Plan and how 16 years since its inception they decided to pay homage to them, and especially to Mark Hoppus, who’s faith in the band and in their song ‘I’d Do Anything’ which he is also featured on, was crucial in Simple Plan’s subsequent career.

HAPPY APRIL FOOLS’ DAY!

“All of us in Simple Plan have been big fans of Blink-182 ever since we were teenagers. And in our beginnings, Mark Hoppus has tremendously helped to boost our spirits after he praised our earlier demo of ‘I’d Do Anything’ and then sang on it as well, and his and his band’s support has always meant a great deal to us.

16 years since our debut album was released, we still love Blink and because we know that our 6th album is going to take some time to make, we wanted to give our fans something to listen to in the meantime – that’s why we decided to create this special limited edition cover album by recording some very special covers of some of our favorite Blink songs. Our fans may have heard us perform some of these on our soundchecks over the past few years but this is the first time we’re releasing them as a compilation. And once again, Mark was so generous he agreed to lay his vocals on our cover of my favorite Blink song: ‘Going Away To College’!!! Thx, Mark!

I am so stoked for you all to hear all our renditions of these legendary tracks!”

Members of Simple Plan take a stand against gun violence & show support for March For Our Lives

Yesterday, March 24th, millions of people not just all over the United States but all over the world took to the streets and joined the worldwide series of March For Our Lives marches in their local cities to actively show their support of the #NeverAgain movement which aims to stop gun violence and demands stricter gun laws in reaction to the increasing number of shootings in the United States.

March For Our Lives was organized by the students of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, who survived the deadly attack at their school on February 14th this year, where 17 of their fellow students and teachers lost their lives. The main march took place in the capital city of the United States – Washington D.C. – and with over 800 000 people taking part in it, it has apparently become the largest single-day demonstration in the history of Washington D.C. Aside D.C., hundreds of thousands people attended the 800 other marches all over the world.

Many celebrities praised the students for taking a stand and supported them either financially (most notably George Clooney and Oprah Winfrey), by actively attending the marches (e.g. Lin-Manuel Miranda, Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga, Paul McCartney…) or by voicing their support over social media.

And the members of Simple Plan were no exception. Over the past few months, Chuck Comeau especially has been very vocal about his support of better regulations of guns in the United States, where he currently resides with his family and yesterday he once again expressed his opinion on this matter on Instagram:

“Protect kids, not guns! Our family stands with everyone who marched today. We want our son London to grow up in a world where he never has to be afraid to go to school, to a concert or play in the park because of gun violence. #enoughisenough #MarchForOurLives #guncontrol!

Besides Chuck, Sebastien Lefebvre also decided to show his support to the movement and posted the following message in his Instagram Stories:

I’m amazed by everyone coming together yesterday for #marchforourlives and taking a stand for something that would make the world a better place. Truly amazing!

‘Welcome To My Life’ to be featured in a comedic student musical: proceeds to benefit LGBT charity

The ‘Unity for Action’ student club, based at the University of Ottawa, is currently in the midst of preparing its annual musical, through which the students aim to gather funds to support the LGBT Youth Line, a charity that offers counselling, advice, and an outreach hotline for young LGBT individuals.

Every year, the student club chooses a social justice topic, which they tackle within their musical’s story. The 7th edition of Unity for Action’s musical is going to revolve around materialism, which according to the press release “allows the group to be funnier than they could have been (in previous musicals) with more personal topics like domestic abuse.”

The musical, entitled “A Year In The Life” will tell the story about a rich and popular, yet miserable and ungrateful woman swaps her live with a regular girl, who desires fame and fortune. In time however, the regular girl discovers that fame and money doesn’t always equal happiness and at the same time the celebrity learns the importance of being kind and appreciative of everything that’s coming her way.

Since the students do not write their own songs, they opted for taking popular songs that fit the subject of the play and decided to use them to help narrate the musical’s story. Among the songs featured in this musical, music fans will be able to spot for instance Gwen Stefani’s ‘Rich Girl’ or Simple Plan’s ‘Welcome To My Life’.

“A Year In The Life” will be premiering on March 10th and three performances in total will be delivered at the University of Ottawa in Ottawa, Canada. Find out more about this musical on its Facebook event page.
