Just because Simple Plan have a little time off right now, doesn’t mean they’re not working. For example Chuck spent last day not only hanging out with the band MKTO, but according to the band’s tweet, they also have a collaboration in works with him – most probably writing a song together.
MKTO is a two-piece California based band that consists of Tony Oller and Malcolm Kelley – both previously actors, most notably Malcolm, who played the mysterious Walt in the TV show LOST. The band has recently been on the spotlight because of their song for their first single “Thank You” which has gone viral on the Internet (make sure to check out the music video – and if you’re a fan of LOST, look for all the references!)
One of the reasons why this collaboration may have even started in the first place is that MKTO already have one connection with Simple Plan – they wrote “Thank You” with Emanuel Kiriakou and Evan “Kidd” Bogart, who have also been writing with Simple Plan on their new material.
Just like it was with their last album “Can’t Keep A Secret”, for which the Canadian band Faber Drive invited Chuck and Pierre from Simple Plan to co-write a couple of songs, the band invited the boys from Simple Plan again, to help them with their third studio record, called “Lost In Paradise”.
And even though Chuck says him and Pierre co-wrote only two songs for Faber Drive’s new album – that is “Do It In Hollywood” and “Too Little, Too Late”, according to this sneak peak of the “Lost In Paradise” booklet, you can see that Chuck and Pierre also worked on a song called “Set It Off”, meaning that out of 10 songs on this record, Chuck and Pierre co-wrote three of them.
“Lost In Paradise” was released on iTunes today, where you can either purchase it or (if you’re still hesitating) you can also check out previews of all of the songs on the record.
After their Australian tour, Simple Plan became good friends with a local singer (and former X Factor contestant), Christina Parie, who got their attention after they saw her cover version of Jet Lag on YouTube and invited her to tour with them as the female singer on the song in Australia.
Christina is now in LA, which is “coincidentally” where Pierre flew yesterday and Chuck today, and according to one of her tweets, she will be meeting up with the guys tomorrow for a songwriting session. Most probably though it will be Christina’s song, not Simple Plan’s.

K’Naan to perform “Summer Paradise” live with Simple Plan at Juno Awards
A few weeks ago, Simple Plan were announced as performers on this year’s Juno Awards in Canada. But the guys won’t be alone on the stage this time around! The Canadian TV station MuchMusic has announced on their Twitter today that on April 1st, Simple Plan will be performing there along with the Somali-Canadian rapper K’Naan, who is the original collaboration on the single Summer Paradise, and this will be the first time ever that these two acts will be playing together live.
Currently, Simple Plan are mostly promoting the new version of Summer Paradise, which features Sean Paul. According to the direcor of the upcoming music video for this single, Randall “RT” Thorne, the vid will be finished this week and we should be able to see it in the upcoming weeks.
The last time I mentioned that the members of the Canadian band Faber Drive (who you may remember as one of Simple Plan’s opening bands on their Canadian tour in 2008) were meeting Pierre and Chuck from Simple Plan in order to write together some more lyrics for Faber Drive’s new record was last December.
Pierre and Chuck had already worked on Faber Drive’s second album – Can’t Keep A Secret – on songs “Our Last Goodbye” and “G-Get up and dance!” before, so this was not the first time they hung out with Faber and the rest of the gang as songwriters.
Now to the exciting stuff – Faber Drive will be releasing their third album in just a couple of months and on March 13th their first single called “Do It In Hollywood” is coming out – which is also one of the songs that Chuck and Pierre from Simple Plan co-wrote.
Faber Drive’s drummer Andrew Stricko mentioned this song on Twitter a few days ago:
Just heard the final mix of our new single. You’re all gonna shit your pants! Special thank yous to @pierrebouvier & @chuckcomeau
The Simple Plan guys are trying really hard to make every single concert on their current Canadian tour a very unique experience and so they planned a couple of more surprises for the fans who will be attending them. One of them, which we’ve already talked about, was the surprise appearance of Fefe Dobson on Jet Lag during Simple Plan’s show in Toronto. You can now check out their performance on YouTube:
Another “surprise” (if we can even call it that) is planned for tonight, when Marie-Mai will be joining Simple Plan on Jet Lag in their hometown of Montreal, Canadai – Marie-Mai confirmed this via her Twitter page.
And speaking of changes on the current Simple Plan tour, it is definitely worth mentioning that the guys have added 4 more songs to their already very long setlist: The Worst Day Ever, My Alien, Everytime (acoustic version) and Crazy (also acoustic version). You can check out the complete up-to-date setlist here.
