New SP song in February & more spilled beans from Pierre & Chuck’s livestream

Our favorite song-writing duo, Pierre Bouvier and Chuck Comeau got together via Instagram live chat on Thursday, where they not only answered a bunch of fans’ questions but also spilled some amazing beans while doing so.

The main information we got from the livechat was that there is a brand new Simple Plan song coming out next month – in February. According to Pierre, “it’s a special one”.

“We’re gonna put out some new music soon. It’s coming soon. For real.. […] One way we’re adaption to this and also to the new reality on the music world and how things are going is that we’re releasing music in a different way. It’s gonna be more like song by song, maybe a little bit […] than we’ve done in the past. But I think that’s kind of cool. We’re just trying to make this work. Cause we’re not able to go out there and tour and do interviews as much and do everything. We’re trying to find new ways for people to pay attention to the songs and the album, so we’re experimenting with different ways of doing that. But the next step is a new song and that’s coming next month.”

The boys also mentioned that the new album will definitely be released on vinyl and the band is also currently looking at some other vinyl related things – according to Chuck, there should be some sort of vinyl coming up related to the 20th anniversary of Simple Plan’s first album ‘No Pads, No Helmets… Just Balls’, which is coming up in March.

Check out a clip of Chuck and Pierre discussing the new song and the vinyls in the livestream below:

Chuck also revealed in the chat that the band has also already shot their album cover photoshoot and just finalized the final look of the album cover in the past few days (again by Simple Plan’s head graphic designer – Fred Jerome). The album cover concept was once again put together by Chuck and the photos were taken by their favorite band photographer Chapman Baehler (who also did the photoshoots for Still Not Getting Any or Taking One For The Team).

Another thing discussed was the upcoming Canadian tour with The Offspring, which a lot of fans have been asking about, due to all the covid restrictions that are currently being put in place in the country. It is currentl unclear whether the tour will be able to be held in a couple weeks, but the band is still looking at their options and will be publishing an update either this week or early next week.

And finally, during the livechat, Pierre also surprised Chuck by telling everyone him and his family are actually currently recovering from COVID-19. All of them are doing well. You can listen to him talking about it here:

Recap of Simple Plan’s Instagram live

In case you missed it on Friday, thanks to our reader Sophie (@sophie_music05) you can now watch the full livestream that Simple Plan recently did on Instagram live on November 5th to celebrate the release of their new single “The Antidote”.

And in case you don’t have extra 35 minutes to watch it all right now, here’s a short recap of any important or interesting information we’ve learned in this livestream:

  • the guys discusses the behind the scenes of Jeff’s solo in “The Antidote” – turns out it wasn’t just Jeff playing it, but Pierre was controlling the pitch pedal to create the final crazy sound of the solo
  • there will be a music video for The Antidote, the guys have already chosen a director and are about to figure out the details of when it’s going to be filmed
  • Chuck confirmed that the music video for The Antidote will feature their actual fans in some way
  • Simple Plan’s official fanclub the SP Crew is currently under reconstruction, it will be back again: changed, but better
  • due to covid, soundchecks and VIP parties for the foreseeable future won’t be taking place, but as soon as the situation is better again, the guys want to reinstall these special fan meet-ups with the band too
  • to some extent, the album will have similar vibes as The Antidote, the songs are mostly classic Simple Plan but with a modern vibe to them
  • the fans can expect some collabs on the new album – the band is working on them right now
  • Simple Plan will make it up to their U.S. fans after the canceled tour – they are planning a new U.S. tour hopefully for spring/summer 2022

David posts an update on himself a year after stepping away from Simple Plan

It has already been a year since certain sexual misconduct allegations made David Desrosiers step away from Simple Plan “to work on his personal issues” and apologize for the harm he had caused to women by his actions.

Since then, Simple Plan’s communication on social media has only reflected the other four members and there has been no sign of David ever since. David’s Instagram has also been deactivated for a significant amount of time.

Yesterday however, a little over a year since the infamous David scandal came to light, David Desrosiers reappeared on Instagram once more, this time with a blank slate – his profile info doesn’t say anything but his name and he has also deleted all his previous posts. On the brand new image post, David can be seen relaxing on a beach, playing a guitar. In the post, written both in French and in English, David thanked his fans for all the support and gave them a little update on his life one year post stepping away. You can see the full post here or read it below:

“Hi everyone!

It’s been a while, so I thought I’d take a moment to check in with you. It’s now been a year since I stepped away from the stage and social media to focus on me. With the help of professionals, I took the time to reflect on who I am and the kind of person I want to be. This has been an ongoing process that will continue. For now, I’ll keep working on myself and my wish is to see you again on stage eventually.

I want to thank all the fans for their support. I really appreciate it.

See you all soon.”

It is currently unclear, whether his wish to see the fans again from the stage could mean a chance of him rejoining Simple Plan again or him returning to music in some other way.

Simple Plan to record last 4 songs for new album in January

Simple Plan’s studio efforts are slowly heading to the finish line! After spending a number of weeks in the recording studio in Los Angeles in the summer, where they recorded most of the songs for their upcoming 6th album, the band is now ready to finish a number of last songs in the upcoming weeks.

According to Jeff’s recent post on Instagram, Simple Plan will be returning to the recording studio in January, where they are planning to record 4 more songs, making the album complete by the end of January.

As of right now, there is still no word on the official release date of this yet-untitled 6th album, but from the recent interviews with the bands, the band members seem to be estimating to release it around spring 2020.

Since Simple Plan are no longer under a major record label, we cannot wait to see which direction they will be heading and whether they will sign under a new label or just release the new album on their own. Keep following SimplePlan.cz news and you won’t miss an new details about album #6.

David thanked fans for warm welcome after his on-stage debut after 2 years of absence

If you’ve been up to date with all the recent news about Simple Plan, you’re already aware that after two long years of fighting depression and working on his mental health, David Desrosiers finally rejoined Simple Plan on tour this past weekend on Warped Tour in Cleveland, Ohio. This exciting news obviously brought in thousands of reactions from fans from all around the world, who were extremely happy and proud to see David doing better and back to where we like to see him: rocking out on stage with his band.

So in the first social media post since February that he posted yesterday, David decided to express his gratitude to fans for their kindness that they’ve shown him for the past few years. Check out his little message below:

I just wanna thank everyone for being patient and so kind to me. I’m happy to be back and playing shows again for you. It was so much fun to be on stage playing music with the guys again. See you at the shows this summer!🤘🏻
