3 years since the release of ‘Taking One For The Team’

“And it’s making me sick – feeling nostalgic..” – the lyrics from the the song Nostalgic, sometimes precisely sum up our feelings whenever we hit yet another anniversary of the release of a Simple Plan record, realizing how fast the time flies and how old we all really are already.

It’s true – Simple Plan released their latest, 5th studio album, ‘Taking One For The Team’ exactly three years ago on this day, February 19th. In those three years, Simple Plan toured the whole world a couple time, released a number of singles from this album, including ‘I Don’t Wanna Go To Bed’, ‘Singing In The Rain’ and ‘Perfectly Perfect’ and currently are in the process of making a follow-up album.

Besides these radio songs, the band also teased the release of this record in the summer of 2015 by putting out a video for ‘Boom!’, which despite not becoming an official single, has still managed to capture many people’s hearts and… let’s face it: their dancing & rocking moves too. Similarly, we also got a music video for ‘Opinion Overload’, one of the heavier songs on the album, which also was not chosen to represent this album on the radio waves.

On this album, Simple Plan once again featured various interesting vocalists, who were supposed to give the record a little bit of a different feel. Rapper Nelly laid some guest vocals on the song ‘I Don’t Wanna Go To Bed’, musical duo Rock City then appeared on ‘Singing In The Rain’, while the voice of Jordan Pundik from New Found Glory can be heard on ‘Farewell’ and the only female artist – Juliet Simms – sang beautifully on the final track – ‘I Dream About You’.

Looking back, how do you feel about Simple Plan’s last studio effort? Which songs are your favorite? And would you like for the band to head a similar direction with their next record?

Illustrator of Simple Plan’s cassette t-shirt design reveals early ideas for the artwork

Canadian illustrator by the name Mathieu Beaulieu is no stranger to our Simple Plan news – back in March 2016 we first reported about the initial sketches of the [racoon t-shirt design [still available online!], which Pierre was in favor of for a significant part of the first part of the Taking One For The Team tour, and later on he also stood behind the design of Jeff’s latest guitar pick.

But that is not all that Mr. Beaulieu has contributed to Simple Plan when it comes to his designs. You may also remember the very popular mixtape cassette t-shirt [also still available online!], sold on both the Taking One For The Team tour and the No Pads tour, with the words “for When You Miss Me” scribbled on one of the sides of the cassette. These words obviously being a reference to the song “Nostalgic” from Taking One For The Team, where Pierre sings in the first verse:

I found your picture looking through a book
It was the one I took
When we were driving on Sunset
Descendents playing on a mix CD
That you just made for me
You wrote “For when you miss me” on it

– Simple Plan – Nostalgic –

On his Behance profile, Mathieu Beaulieu now revealed some of the early sketches for this design, which sort of show of his thought-process.

Below on the burgundy field, you can see the finished version of the cassette design, in which the pulled out tape is cleverly formed into the shape of the letters S and P. Now, on the early designs, Mathieu played around with the pulled out tape quite a bit and one of the sketches for instance shows the tape shaped into the word “yeah”. All of the other original cassette tape designs also do not include the “for When You Miss Me” reference, but stick to the general name of the record this song can be found on – TOFTT. The only Nostalgic reference can be found on the CD design, which isn’t as “retro” or “nostalgic” as the rest, however many early Simple Plan fans might relate to a burned out CD better than a cassette, plus it also fits with the lyric reference, which is why this design might have been one of the contenders.

Check out all Mathieu Beaulieu’s sketches below and let us know what you think of them!

‘Taking One For The Team’ certified gold in Russia

2 years since the release of Taking One For The Team!

Time flies so fast – it feels like yesterday when we were welcoming Simple Plan’s latest album on its release day, February 19th 2016 – but today ‘Taking One For The Team’ already celebrates its second anniversary!

This album came out after months of writing, recording and post-production – and even second recording sessions, which many fans recall as the “pop-punk sessions”, when Simple Plan went back to studio in November 2015 to add a bit more rock and pop-punk to the already finished record. That is where tracks like ‘Farewell’, ‘Opinion Overload’ or ‘Nostalgic’ were created.

Similarly to their fourth album, Simple Plan once again featured various interesting vocalists on this record, who were supposed to give the record a little bit of a different feel.

As far as singles are concerned, Simple Plan chose to go with some of their more poppier tracks on the album. At first, they went with ‘I Don’t Wanna Go To Bed’ (feat. Nelly) as their first single from TOFTT, which was later followed by ‘Singing In The Rain’ and ‘Perfectly Perfect’. Besides these tracks, the song ‘Opinion Overload’ also got its own accompanying video despite the fact that it has not been named a single and therefore wasn’t put on radio play.

Looking back, how do you feel about Simple Plan’s last studio effort? Which songs are your favorite? And would you like for the band to head a similar direction with their next record?

One year since the release of ‘Taking One For The Team’

Can you believe it? Today marks exactly one year since the day when we all first got to the hear the ‘Taking One For The Team’ album in its entirety, as Simple Plan dropped the record on February 19th 2016.

This album, which is Simple Plan’s 5th studio record, has brought us singles such as I Don’t Wanna Go To Bed, Singing In The Rain and Perfectly Perfect. Besides the official singles, the band also released a number of promo singles, for which they also filmed music videos – such as Boom and Opinion Overload.

Just like on Get Your Heart On!, Simple Plan also offered their fans some interesting collaborations on this record – such as Nelly (I Don’t Wanna Go To Bed), Jordan Pundik (Farewell), Juliet Simms (I Dream About You) and R. City (Singing In The Rain).

After having been listening to TOFTT for a year now, have your thoughts on the songs changed in any way? What do you think of this album as a whole and which songs are your favorite?
