RECAP: Simple Plan opened for Blink 182 in Winnipeg, Canada

After weeks of touring the U.S. just acoustically in a foursome, the whole band was finally reunited yesterday in Winnipeg, Canada, where they had an opening spot scheduled for a show with a sick line-up! As it was previously announced, Simple Plan were added for one single date as the opening band alongside The Used for the pop-punk legends that are Blink 182, who recently released a new album called California.

And while we’re still waiting for a group picture of SP and Blink, Chuck already shared a throwback picture of him and Blink’s drummer Travis Barker, which was taken in 1999. Check it out:

The Winnipeg concert took place in the MTS Centre arena, which holds up to 16 000 fans, making it one of the largest shows for Simple Plan this year. The show itself kicked off with The Used’s set at 7pm, after which Simple Plan took the stage at 8pm before the headliners Blink 182 took over at 9:15pm. From the reactions on social media, we can tell that Simple Plan were received extremely well and their show was a major success. The exact order of the songs on the setlist is yet unknown, but the list of the songs the band played is as follows: ‘Opinion Overload’, ‘Jet Lag’, ‘Jump’, ‘Boom’, ‘Summer Paradise’, ‘Farewell’, ‘Shut Up’, ‘Welcome To My Life’, ‘Perfect’ and the guys couldn’t have missed playing ‘I’d Do Anything’, whose original cameo [Mark Hoppus from Blink 182] unfortunately didn’t join the band for the live version of the song.

Have a look at the amazing moment when the whole arena sung ‘Perfect’ all together at the end of Simple Plan’s set in Winnipeg last night:

Simple Plan and The Used to support Blink-182 in Winnipeg

No, that headline didn’t come from 2003 – it’s actually happening! The American pop-punk legends Blink-182 will be playing a show at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, MB, Canada to promote their new album ‘California’ [coming out July 1st] and they invited two other well-known old-school bands to open for themSimple Plan and The Used.

Simple Plan have quite a history with both of these bands – Pierre used to sing on stage with The Used on the 2003 Warped Tour and the bands played together many times over the past almost two decades. And even richer history can be found when it comes to Simple Plan and Blink-182: Chuck got to know Mark Hoppus back when he was still in Reset and Mark was also one of the first people to ever hear one of the first demos of ‘I’d Do Anything’ [just called ‘Anything’ at that point], which he loved and which is why the band later on asked him to sing on the song as well as appear in the music video. Since then, Blink-182 and Simple Plan have appeared alongside many times, both on and off stage and the band members have kept in touch.

All three bands will be reunited in Winnipeg on July 7th, prices of the tickets [which go on sale June 4th, 10am CDT] are: $35, $49, $65, $79 and $89. The Winnipeg date is a part of a number of recently added Canadian dates of the summer Blink-182 tour, which continues all over North America, and which has previously made headlines by including other well-known opening acts, such as All Time Low, The All-American Rejects or A Day To Remember. The Winnipeg will be the only date Simple Plan will appear at.

Interview with Chuck about this year’s line-up on Australian Warped Tour

In a recent interview that Chuck Comeau did for Forte magazine, he did not only proclaim his love for Australia, but also talked about the bands that will be appearing on this year’s edition of Warped Tour there, alongside Simple Plan.

Check out what Chuck said about them below:

“We all love The Offspring – they’re one of the first bands that made me want to form a punk band. When we were young we’d watch snowboarding videos and their first record, Ignition, was always on the soundtrack. From there we discovered Pennywise, NOFX, Bad Religion, Lagwagon and Strung Out. They were a huge part of introducing us to that whole scene, that whole world of music that we fell in love with. It was truly a game changer for us. Since then we’ve had a chance to play with them, so we’re friends … It’s weird to say because they’re such idols to us.

An Australian band we love is Tonight Alive. They’re really awesome and when we had them on our tour two years ago they blew us away. Their new record is dope, and the singer Jenna sang with us on the track ‘Jet Lag’ every night on the tour, so hopefully she’ll do that again. The Used are also amazing. I really enjoy them.”
