Idobi radio co-owners include Chuck, Sebastien and Joel Madden!

From left to right: Chuck Comeau (Simple Plan), Eddie Barella (program director of idobi), Tom Cheney (CEO of idobi), Joel Madden (Good Charlotte) and Sebastien Lefebvre (Simple Plan).

You may recall an article I wrote in July 2014 after the Alternative Press Music Awards, in which we learned that Chuck Comeau was in fact 1/5 of the co-owners of idobi radio along with Eddie Barella and Tom Cheney, who all apppeared at the red carpet together. The remaining two fifths of co-owners have never been named before.

Finally today, thanks to an article from Technical.ly, Chuck decided to shed some light on idobi’s ownership and his involvement in it. According to the article, idobi incorporated in 2012 and idobi’s founder Tom Cheney and Eddie Barella (radio host, program director) welcomed Good Charlotte’s Joel Madden and Simple Plan’s Chuck Comeau and also Sebastien Lefebvre as co-owners.

“As a hobby we helped them launch their careers,” said Cheney. It was “life coming full circle.”

Chuck also commented on this article via Twitter:

“Proud of idobi radio and working with my good friends Tom Cheney, Sebastien Lefebvre and Joel Madden on bringing you great music.”

Idobi Radio (stylized as “idobi radio”) is an Internet radio station that focuses mostly on pop-punk, alternative and power-pop music that was founded in 1999 by Tom Cheney. Simple Plan fans may know this radio station for many past interviews with the members of the band and mostly for the radio show Man Of The Hour (co-hosted by Simple Plan’s Sebastien Lefebvre and former merch guy/webmaster/photographer Patrick Langlois), which idobi has been airing since 2006.

Chuck admits to co-owning Idobi radio

Yesterday, the official Idobi radio Twitter account has revealed a picture from the Alternative Press Music Awards entitled “3/5 of Idobi owners rock the APMAs” which featured Simple Plan’s Chuck Comeau, radio host Eddie Barella and Idobi’s founder and CEO Tom Cheney. Later that evening Chuck retweeted said photo adding: “Some good-looking owners!”. So unless this is an inside joke, it seems that Chuck Comeau indeed co-owns Idobi radio with four other people.

Idobi radio has previously had a very big connection to Simple Plan as not only the radio frequently plays Simple Plan songs and often features news and interviews with the band, one of the members of Simple Plan – Sebastien Lefebvre – has been co-hosting a radio show on Idobi radio – Man Of The Hour – along with SP’s former merch guy & photo/videographer Patrick Langlois since 2006. Members of Simple Plan have since then also been featured on this show.

In the gallery you can now check out the picture that revealed Chuck’s co-owership of the radio below:

Tom Cheney reminisces about the first time meeting Simple Plan and congrats to their 10th anniversary

In his latest post on the Idobi radio’s website, Tom Cheney, the head of the Idobi radio, who’s been friends with the guys from Simple Plan almost since their beginning and also has been allowing Sebastien and Patrick to have their own radio show (Man Of The Hour), reminisces about the first moments of meeting Simple Plan.

Below you can check it out and also make sure you listen to the interview Tom’s recorded with the boys 9 years ago – it is very interesting to watch which things have changed and which haven’t at all :) You’ll find the link to the interview inside the article:

This came out 10 years ago

And it’s almost been 9 years since I’ve met these guys.

I went to see this girl:

And watch this guy perform magic tricks:

And then I met this guy:

He was working the merch table, and said, “Go back to the bus and talk to my boys.”

I was like, “What do I get?”

Pat pulled out this massive money roll, tug out a $100 bill, and slides it across the counter.

I said, “What else have you got?”

He stares into my eyes for a second and said, “I’ll make out with you.”

“Lead the way!” I replied.

If you missed that interview nine years ago, you can check it out here.

Anyways, Their debut album went platinum in four countries – double-platinum in three. Ten years and 10 more platinum certifications later, it’s been a pleasure to watch these guys and the band flourish over the past decade. I find it satisfying to see people succeed at doing what they love, and I have to add that it couldn’t happen to a nicer group of guys.

So here’s to the past 10 years, and to 10 more! That’s gonna be like almost two decades.
