Not only are Simple Plan the 5th most mentioned Canadian band, they’ve also been recently named the most followed Canadian band on Twitter – check out our post about that from this July.

Simple Plan: the most followed Canadian band on Twitter

During his Thursday’s visit to Montreal, Twitter Canada’s managing director Rory Capern revealed some interesting insights into the social network’s statistics in Canada – and Montreal in particular [revealed by Montreal Gazette yesterday].

Most of the insights were sports or politics related, as those are apparently the most popular topics in tweets regarding Montreal.

However, Capern also shared some interesting information regarding Canadian music scene on Twitter. When it comes to music, Simple Plan are continuously Canada’s most followed band on Twitter, at this moment reaching over 1.17 million followers on this social media site. Behind them on second place is Arcade Fire with 1 million followers.

Just to compare with other popular Canadian bands – Nickelback only reaches up to 764k followers, Hedley has about 608k followers and Sum 41 has even less – only 397k followers.

Of course, only bands, not solo music artists are considered in this statistic. Several Canadian artists such as Justin Bieber or Drake can of course pride themselves on a little higher amount of followers.

Chuck reveals new info about upcoming Simple Plan album in a Twitter Q&A

Simple Plan address critisism of their French communication on Twitter

Yesterday, Journal de Montreal’s journalist Sophie Durocher wrote an article on her blog on the online newspaper’s website entitled “Simple Plan killing the French language”. In this article, Durocher criticised the Canadian band for a tweet that was sent from the official account (@simpleplan) on Saturday, which included a message – in French – iniviting fans to buy tickets for the Foundation event. It wasn’t the message itself that outraged the reporter, it was the grammar, which included a few discrepancies. Durocher argued that the band doesn’t care enough for their “1% of French” tweets.

This caused a series of tweets from both Chuck Comeau and Jeff Stinco apologizing for the grammatic errors in the tweet (which has since been deleted), mentioning the tweet hadn’t been written by them, but by one of the employees of their management, who didn’t know the language perfectly. Read Jeff’s and Chuck’s statements below:

“On behalf of SP, I assure you it will not happen again. We all share a great love for the French language.” – Jeff Stinco

“It’s been a few days since the official Simple Plan account published a message containing several unacceptable faults in the French language. An employee of our management company, who obviously did not master the language, took the unfortunate initiative to send this message without consulting us. We’re really sorry. It will not happen again. I think everyone knows that we are proud to be from the province of Quebec and to speak French.” – Chuck Comeau

Adam Elmakias mentions Simple Plan in a Twitter rant

Adam Elmakias, who’s gained fame as a concert photographer, mainly for taking pictures of bands like All Time Low and Pierce The Veil, went on a short rant on Twitter yesterday, which started by him mentioning he was listening to Simple Plan and he couldn’t understand why he ever stopped. Check out the cool story about Simple Plan’s “Perfect” from Adam’s teenage years:

“I am listening to Simple Plan, why did I ever stop listening to Simple Plan?”

“One time in high school I called my girlfriend and her friend, we had one of those calls where three people could be on it. I think I was 14 and I was super dorky and told them that I loved to sing but wouldn’t do it in front of anyone. So they said “show us” but I couldn’t do it on command so I was like well there is only one way I can do it, I have to put the phone down and you just have to wait for it to come out naturally and then I did that and sang the Simple Plan song “I’m Sorry I Can’t Be Perfect” to them and then I hung up right away cause I was so embarrassed. I wish I could go back to 14 year old me and high five myself cause of how much of a weirdo I was and then 14 year old me would high five current 25 year old me and be like where the fuck did all your hair go and why are you still on this planet. In conclusion, let me serenade you. My voice is very unique and full of surprises that will leave a life long impression on your soul.”

Update (Oct 18th):

In his most recent Google Hangout, Adam Elmakias said that he in fact met up with Simple Plan on Thursday and that he may be doing a photoshoot with them “soon”. Check out the transcript and the video below (mark 15:58):

Q: Ever thought about doing a photoshoot with Simple Plan?

A: Actually, I met with Simple Plan yesterday, so… maybe soon. They’re very nice!
