The Beach Boys vs. Simple Plan vs. Rammstein

Have you ever thought that The Beach Boys, Simple Plan and Rammstein could ever have something in common?

Even though all of these three bands are of very different music genres, all of them have at one point in their careers decided to do a phootshoot with lots of plaid flanel and a surf board.

The Beach Boys started this phenomenon in the 60s, when they came up with a brand new music style called “surf music”, which was connected to the very popular surf culture in Southern California. No wonder a significant amount of their songs have titles like “Surf’s Up”, “Surfin’, “Surfin’ USA”, “Surfer Girl” “Surfin’ Safari”, “Surfers Rule”, “The Surfer Moon” or “Still Surfin'”.

And it was the coverart for the single “Surfer Girl” that got The Beach Boys famous for their photoshoot which became their symbol and an inspiration for other bands ever since.

The guys from Simple Plan decided to follow the steps of old famous bands in the booklet of their album Get Your Heart On!: The Ramones became The SPs, Wham! became Plan!, Run DMC became Simple P and finally The Beach Boys became The Simple Plans.

But suprisingly in 2011 Simple Plan weren’t the only band who decided to reminiscent about The Beach Boys: the German band Rammstein released their new single “Mein Land” today and by the looks of the artwork and the new music video they have either been really inspired by The Beach Boys… or by The Simple Plans if you will…

But who knows, perhaps Simple Plan will do something more with their pseudo-bands in the future as well. Summer Paradise would be a perfect choice for The Beach Boys’ Simple Plan’s single… :)
