Simple Plan respond with defiance to Rock Am Ring terrorist threat

Yesterday, many music fans were hit by the news that just about an hour after Simple Plan performed their set at the Rock Am Ring festival in Germany, the police recommended the promoters to evacuate the festival grounds on basis of a credible terrorist threat [read more here].

Over the evening, the members of Simple Plan kept us updated and very early on made all their fans know that they were safe and following the promoters’ instructions. At this point, the band is heading to their show in Pratteln, Switzerland, after which they are set to perform at Rock Im Park in Germany – a sister festival to Rock Am Ring. All information indicate all events are still taking place and there has not been any threat made to any other events. Rock Am Ring promoters also announced this morning that after intensive searches of the whole festival site throughout the night by the police, the suspicion of a potential terrorist threat has not been confirmed and the festival will continue today and tomorrow.

Some members of Simple Plan posted pictures of their performance at Rock Am Ring yesterday and added some defiant messages towards terror, all agreeing that we should not give in to fear and we should continue living our lives.

Check out the messages below:

“I was hesitant to post this picture but after all, this is what Victory looks like: [yesterday], we played Rock Am Ring before it got evacuated because of a terrorist threat.

There was about 50,000 people in front of us clapping their hands, singing, jumping, screaming and having a blast with us. We shared our music with a crowd of very cool people. The best weapon we have against these attacks is to stand tall and not show fear.

Keep going to the shows of your favorite bands. Go see your favorite sports team play. Bring a friend to a restaurant. Above all, don’t forget to tell your loved one you love them.

Life is precious and you cannot waste it hiding in fear or else it loses its meaning.

We will be at the Bataclan, in Paris, standing tall on June 6th…”

“We have to keep Singing In The Rain. Rock Am Ring was amazing yesterday. Despite yesterday evening’s events, I will remember our 6th (I think) time playing this massive festival as one of the biggest shows of our career! Germany knows how to rock.”

– Seb Lefebvre –

“Rock Am Ring is one of our favorite festival in the entire world and it’s so sad and heartbreaking what happened [yesterday]. We’re so grateful that all the fans and artists who came here to celebrate music together are all safe tonight and that we had the chance to perform for all of you. We love you, Germany and we love you, Rock AM Ring. 🇩🇪 Wir Lieben Dich Germany und Rock Am Ring! “

Terrorist threat to Rock Am Ring: all attendees evacuated outside the premises

This is breaking news – it has just come to our attention that apparently due to a terrorist threat, the police advised the promoters of the German Rock Am Ring festival, where Simple Plan just finished performing a few moments ago, to have all 80 000 festival attendees exit the festival grounds.

According to fan accounts, all attendees acted is a calm manner, nobody panicked and everyone followed the instructions of the promoters.

Read the official statement below:

“Due to a terrorist threat the police have advised us to interrupt the festival. We ask all festival visitors to leave the festival site in a calm and controlled manner towards the exits and camping grounds. We have to support the police investigations. All visitors will be kept informed about any developments on all Rock am Ring Social Media channels, radio and the speakers. We hope that the festival will continue tomorrow. Thank you for your cooperation.”

Local police said in a statement that the decision to cancel the festival was made due to “concrete leads” for a terror threat. This comes only two weeks after 22 people were killed in a terrorist attack at a concert in Manchester, UK.

This is a developing story, keep checking back for more updates.

UPDATE: Jeff just posted a video of people getting evacuated from Rock Am Ring. Watch it here.

Chuck informed the fans through Twitter that the band is okay. Read his message below:

“Due to terrorist threats, Rock AM Ring has been evacuated. We are safe and following instructions from the promoter. Will keep you updated.”

Pierre also added the following message:

“Rock Am Ring has just been evacuated due to a credible terrorist threat…. we are here and we are fine. Nothing has happened as of yet. What a world we live in… 😔 So sad. Thank you to all the fans who were there for our show. It was an awesome crowd as usual. Love you Germany.”

Simple Plan rocked Rock Am Ring: first look at this tour’s setlist for festivals!

This evening, Simple Plan returned on stage in Germany – but this time around for the first time on this European tour – their performance was not part of the No Pads, No Helmets… Just Balls 15th anniversary tour, as it was a festival. And that meant all fans were eagerly awaiting what the setlist would look like instead!

The band surprised many fans, both at Rock Am Ring and also those who were watching the show live online because the setlist included a staggering amount of songs from the No Pads album! Simple Plan even performed the bonus song ‘Grow Up’ – and even kept in the part where Chuck jumps into the crowd to crowdsurf. Also, big thumbs up to the huge German crowd, which sang almost every word – creating truly a very special atmosphere.

If you’re heading on any of the other upcoming Simple Plan shows at festivals (Rock Im Park in Germany, Download in the UK, Aerodrome in Prague or Nova Rock in Austria), the following setlist is what you may be expecting to hear there as well, as SP do not change the setlist very often:

1. I’d Do Anything
2. Jet Lag
3. Jump
4. Your Love Is A Lie
5. Welcome To My Life
6. Boom
7. Can’t Keep My Hands Off You
8. Summer Paradise
9. Addicted
10. Grow Up
11. I’m Just A Kid
12. Crazy
13. Shut Up
14. Perfect

Today, Simple Plan are back in Germany after a little while, playing at the Rock Am Ring festival [don’t forget the live stream later today!]. But let’s take us a few days back, when Simple Plan perfromed in Berlin and Hamburg, as tons of beautiful professional pictures (by Nathan Dobbelaere and Peter Detje) have been released from these shows since then.

Simple Plan’s set time changed for Rock Im Park

Attention Rock Im Park attendees! If you’re heading to the festival on Sunday to see Simple Plan, there has been a little change in the line-up.

Originally, Simple Plan were supposed to perform on June 4th at the Beck’s Park Stage from 4:55pm to 5:55pm, however, the schedule has changed and now Simple Plan will switch their sets with Liam Gallagher and perform after him, that means from 6:20pm to 7:25pm. Somehow that also means Simple Plan’s set is now 5 minutes longer and that it almost entirely clashes with Mallory Knox.

The timetable for Rock Am Ring tomorrow has not changed [see where you can stream it online tomorrow here].
