Simple Plan Foundation announced $280 000 donations to 28 charities this year

At the end of November, Simple Plan (represented there by Chuck, Sebastien and Jeff) held a press conference in Montreal to announce this years donations of their charitable foundation – the Simple Plan Foundation.

The band raises the money for the foundation mainly by donating 1 dollar from every ticket sold for their concerts and 1 dollar from each VIP experience over the yearThis was the first time the band has announced their donations since the pandemic as it has been nearly impossible for them to raise enough funds over the years when performing live shows was quite difficult.

At the press conference, Simple Plan have announced the donations totaling $280 000 that they have pledged to split between 28 charities chosen by the band members themselves. The four vital goals when picking the charities have always been to:

The full list of charities that Simple Plan Foundation is donating money includes organizations that focus on various subjects including: music therapy in hospitals (e.g. purchasing of musical instruments for teenagers hospitalized with cancer), helping children affected by war, music programs for adolescents currently being treated for substance abuse, a health clinic available for migrants that are not covered by any health plan, helping sexually abused children and prevent violence, fighting homophobia among young people, supporting young talented musicians and giving them an opportunity to study music and more.

“The fact that we can use our music and our band and our shows to help is so rewarding. [One of the charitable organizations we chose is] Nova Music, a brand new organization that started about a year ago, and they go into schools and they provide instruments. They try to get young people to join like an orchestra. [Then] there's Garage à Musique here in Montreal that goes into like underprivileged neighbourhoods and provides them with access to music, which is a wonderful. There's Sainte-Justine that uses music [for] musical therapy programs for people that are sick.”

Since its inception in 2005, the Simple Plan Foundation has donated close to 3 million dollars to various charitable organizations.

Still Not Getting Any 20th anniversary: new edition release, gold & platinum certifications and music videos in HD!

On October 26th, Simple Plan’s second album ‘Still Not Getting Any’ celebrated 20 years since its release back in 2004. To commemorate this very special anniversary, the band decided to release a special “20th Anniversary Edition” of this album on Spotify which includes the b-side track ‘Crash And Burn’ (which is officially available for streaming for the very first time!) as well as an acoustic edition of ‘Welcome To My Life’.

Check out below what Simple Plan had to say about one of their most popular albums turning 20 years old:

Making this record was one of the best experiences we’ve had as a band. We knew exactly what we wanted to create and felt so confident and excited about the songs we were writing. We spent a magical summer in our hometown of Montreal recording them and crafting the album we had always dreamed of making. Back in 2004, people from all over the world heard these songs and they became the soundtrack to many of your lives. 20 years later, we’re so proud and grateful they seem to have stood the test of time and we look forward to playing them live for you for many years to come. We hope you enjoy listening to the album again and would like to thank everyone for the love and support you have shown SNGA for all these years!”

And we’re not just stopping there! Besides the rerelease of the album on Spotify, the band also decided to upgrade most of their old music videos, including the ones from Still Not Getting Any, and finally get them a proper high definition treatment! Check out how different Welcome To My Life now looks in HD on the video below:

And one more special news regarding the songs from Still Not Getting Any! One day before the big 20th anniversary, the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) had awarded Simple Plan multiple new certifications for three of the album’s singles.

Welcome To My Life received a 2x Platinum status with 2 million units.

Untitled received a Gold status with 0,5 million units.

Shut Up received a Gold status with 0,5 million units.

(The current RIAA definition of a unit is either each permanent digital download or 150 on-demand audio or video streams.)

New Simple Plan documentary to be released in 2025 on Prime Video

Simple Plan’s new documentary, that has been in works since the beginning of this year – that we’ve reported on earlier this summer, has been greenlit by Amazon’s Prime Video and it has now been announced that the documentary will be released in the beginning of 2025 on Amazon Prime. We have previously reported about this documentary when Chuck mentioned it in a French interview.

In the official press release by Amazon MGM Studios, it has been revealed that the documentary will be directed by Didier Charette (pictured above to the right of Chuck).

And what does the band have to say about this new documentary?

“This movie is the centrepiece of the band’s 25th anniversary celebrations and probably one of the most ambitious and special project we’ve ever been a part of. Reaching this milestone felt like the perfect moment to look back, reflect and give our fans an inside look into our lives, both on tour and at home. We gave director Didier Charette unprecedented access to the band, and our archives, and trusted him to tell our story. He traveled with us on tour for an entire year and, in the process, really captured the essence of who we are as a band and as people. We’re so proud of this movie and can’t wait for our fans to watch it and get to know us like never before!”

The documentary is set to chronicle Simple Plan’s career from their beginnings in the late 90s, their rise to global stardom as well as their continued impact on the music industry. According to an article by La Presse, the documentary will show Simple Plan as their most raw, vulnerable and truthful selves.

“[The documentary will be more "raw" than our book]. [Didier] wanted to go deeper and show the most complicated sides of us, the sides that were the most truthful. We definitely stepped out of our comfort zone.“

So far, the members of the band have only seen parts of the upcoming documentary, but they admit that they had experienced moments of discomfort when they saw themselves not always depicted in the best light.

According to La Presse, both Chuck Comeau and Jeff Stinco have confirmed that while the archive footage used in the documentary will include David Desrosiers (who left the band in 2020 following accusations of sexual misconduct), he wasn’t interviewed for the film.

Besides the in-depth interviews with the current members of Simple Plan and lots of never-seen-before footage from the band’s archives, the documentary will also feature new footage from the past year that the band has been filming this documentary on the road.

Many fans will also surely be happy to see some other familiar faces in the documentary, as it will also include new in-depth interviews with other musicians including Mark Hoppus (Blink 182), Avril Lavigne, Dexter Holland & Noodles (The Offspring) and Fat Mike (NOFX), who have had their impact on Simple Plan’s career.

Below, you can check out the band’s documentary announcement, captures on a video at this past weekend’s When We Were Young Festival:

This limited edition signed 8-piece box set (which will only be printed in 1500 copies) includes the band’s six studio albums, each pressed on color vinyl: No Pads, No Helmets…Just Balls (2002) on red marble vinyl, Still Not Getting Any (2004) on dark blue marble vinyl, Simple Plan (2008) on pink marble vinyl, Get Your Heart On! (2011) on light blue marble vinyl, Taking One For The Team (2016) on orange marble vinyl and Harder Than It Looks (2022) on grey marble vinyl.

As a special feature, this box set also includes a special B-Sides vinyl record, pressed on a clear vinyl. This record includes the following tracks: Where I Belong (feat. State Champs and We The Kings), What’s New Scooby-Doo?, Crash and Burn and Never Should’ve Let You Go. And finally as another bonus, the set also includes a special 7-inch pressed on a green and red vinyl), which features the band’s two holiday-themed songs: Christmas Every Day and My Christmas List.

All Simple Plan albums will also now be available to purchase separately on vinyl, making it the very first time that Still Not Getting Any and Get Your Heart On will ever be available on vinyl. You’ll be able to purchase them in two different color variants. You can choose from albums pressed on a solid color vinyl or the starburst variants. As of right now we do not know the difference between the prices of these variants.
