One the day of the release of their new album “Taking One For The Team” (last Friday, February 19th), Simple Plan attended the taping of various rado and TV shows. One of them was the already mentionedCBC Music’s First Play, where the guys performed a number of songs from their new record along with some good old old-school tracks.
Firstly, you can check out some cool pictures from the taping in the gallery and secondly, below you can find all the videos that CBC Music published on their official YouTube channel which include ‘Opinion Overload’, ‘Boom’, ‘Kiss Me Like Nobody’s Watching’, ‘Farewell’, ‘I Don’t Wanna Go To Bed’ and ‘Summer Paradise’:
If you’ve already read the recap of last night’s Simple Plan’s first show of this European tour – in Madrid, Spain, you already know that Simple Plan had a number of new additions to their new setlist. One of them was the brand new intro to the show. While you may recall the previous intro that kicked the show off for the past couple of years before the opening song ‘Shut Up’, the new intro introduces the new opener – ‘Opinion Overload’.
Check it out below:
Besides ‘Farewell’, which you’ve already seen in the last article, the guys also performed ‘Nostalgic’ for the first time at a regular show. Check out what the song sounds like live on the video right here:
And one last video – as mentioned earlier, Simple Plan also performed a very untraditional rendition of ‘This Song Saved My Life’, which was accompanied by no drums. Check it out below:
Last night, Simple Plan kicked off the very first show of their European Taking One For The Team tour in Madrid, Spain. But of course, it wouldn’t be a good start of the tour if something didn’t go according to plan – in the morning of the show, the opening bands The Bottom Line and Ghost Town got into a car accident with their tourbus somewhere in the south of France but luckily nobody got hurt. The situation however caused lots of delays through-out the day and the bands unfortunately didn’t make it to Madrid on time for the show. The local band Everlyn filled their spot instead. The Bottom Line however didn’t want to disappoint the fans entirely and after the show set up a spontaneous acoustic session outside of Palacio Vistalegre (the venue in Madrid), where they performed a couple of Simple Plan songs. How sweet!
When it comes to Simple Plan, as expected, the band had a lot of special surprises in store for the fans who came to see them. As you will be able to tell from the pictures, the guys have a gorgeous new sport-themed backdrop – but that is not all that has changed. Check out the setlist for Madrid and let’s talk about it a bit more below:
1. Opinion Overload
2. Jet Lag
3. Jump (I Gotta Feeling snippet)
4. I’d Do Anything
5. Boom
6. The Rest of Us
7. Welcome to My Life
8. Your Love Is a Lie
9. Uptown Funk (Mark Ronson/Bruno Mars cover)
10. Can’t Keep My Hands Off You
11. Summer Paradise
12. Farewell
13. Crazy
14. Nostalgic
15. I’m Just a Kid
Encore:
16. Shut Up!
17. Perfect World
18. This Song Saved My Life (acoustic)
19. Perfect
Simple Plan switched their long-time opening song “Shut Up” for the new “Opinion Overload” which is just as hard-hitting and kicks the show off perfectly. Besides that, the band played other songs from the new album such as ‘Farewell’, ‘Boom’ and ‘Nostalgic’. Their plan was to also perform ‘I Don’t Wanna Go To Bed’ and ‘Kiss Me Like Nobody’s Watching’ however due to technical issues they weren’t able to on this particular show. Check out one of the first videos of ‘Farewell’ live below:
Besides the new songs, the band also played a good mix of their old tracks – even with some surprises – for example, Simple Plan performed ‘Perfect World’, which has been a rarity for the past few years and also for the first time in forever played the regular (non-acoustic) version of ‘Crazy’. Also, ‘This Song Saved My Life’ has apparently been performed acoustically, which also hasn’t happened before during regular live shows.
The guys kept the ‘I Gotta Feeling’ snippet within ‘Jump’ and it turns out the long-awaited new party medley will be just one cover song on this tour and it is a cover of ‘Uptown Funk’, originally by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars. Check it out below:
Regarding the setlist, it has been mentioned in many interviews in the past that Simple Plan want to change up the setlist throughout this tour way more often than they have done before and they would like to rotate 7-8 songs from TOFTT. So if you don’t see your favorite on the setlist, just wait for the other shows!
In the gallery you can now check out some of the first pictures from the show:
Here’s another great new interview, which was recorded yesterday in Madrid, Spain for Mariskal Rock. In this over half-an-hour-long interview, Pierre dove into topics such as their fans sometimes being overly expressive when it comes to criticism (on some of the earlier more “poppy” songs the band released) and the band dealing with their anger over this situation by writing songs such as ‘Opinion Overload’. I definitely recommend you checking out this interview, even despite its length:
