David Desrosiers withdrawing from Simple Plan following sexual misconduct allegations

Just a year after his return after a 2-year hiatus from the band, due to his mental health issues, it has now been announced in an official statement that David Desrosiers is withdrawing from the band, given the recent sexual misconduct allegations made against him on social media.

The Instagram @victim_voices_montreal recently published an anonymous message (in French) from a woman describing her former sexual relationship with David Desrosiers and made some serious claims of abuse. You can read the full post here with an English translation here.

It took less than a day for the anonymous posting to spread and reach the band and David Desrosiers himself. Given these accusations, both David and Simple Plan decided to react very quickly, each releasing a short official statement announcing David’s withdrawal from the band “to work on his personal issues” and apologizing for the harm caused.

Recent public statements have led me to acknowledge that some of the interactions I have had with women have caused them harm. I have decided to withdraw from the band and seek professional help to educate myself and act appropriately in the future. I am truly sorry for the harm I have caused to these women.

Following recent public statements, David Desrosiers is withdrawing from the band in order to work on his personal issues. We offer our deepest apologies to the women who were hurt by his actions. We are also sorry for all our fans who are disappointed by this regretful situation. We will, as a band, take time to pause, reflect and put in place guidelines to prevent similar situations from happening.

It is currently unknown whether David’s withdrawal from Simple Plan will be permanent or not.

David resurfaces online with his Instagram stories from Quebec

Out of all the members of Simple Plan, David Desrosiers has always been the one to shy away from social media and keeping his private life a bit more private. And while we mostly knew about the going-ons of Pierre, Jeff, Seb and Chuck during quarantine, the whereabouts of David have been mostly unknown.

This week however, David started getting more involved with the IG game and updated his fans on many occasions of his recent explorations of nature in Quebec – such as in his hometown Matane or the town of Chandler. On his Instagram Stories, David even included a number of pictures of himself in the nature, which you can now check out in our gallery.

Simple Plan postpone co-headlining U.S. tour with New Found Glory to May/June 2021

It looks like we’re just gonna have to pretend like 2020 never happened, since all events are starting to get postponed for next year. After having postponed their long-awaited co-headlining ‘Pop Punk’s Still Not Dead’ U.S. tour (that was supposed to take place this May and June) with New Found Glory indefinitely a few weeks ago, Simple Plan have just announced that they are finalizing the details of postponing the tour for next year – roughly on very similar dates, also in May and June – this time though, in 2021.

We should be getting specific details about all the new shows and their dates soon, so keep checking our website’s Tour section for that. All purchased tickets for all shows of this tour remain valid for the rescheduled dates in 2021, but if you choose to do so, you can also request a refund.

Check out Simple Plan’s official statement below:

Hey everyone, we hope you’re all doing ok in these difficult times.

In a parallel universe somewhere, we would be on tour right now rocking out for you with our friends New Found Glory on the “Pop-Punk’s Still Not Dead” tour. Unfortunately, we all know this is impossible at the moment and it’s been really tough for us to be unable to do what we love the most: playing shows for you.

Having said that, we have been working very hard to reschedule the shows and today, we are excited to announce that the entire tour will be moving to May / June of next year (2021). It’s been a long and complicated process to re-book all the venues and we expect to be able to share with you all the new dates and final details in the coming weeks. We apologize it has taken us so long to do so.

If you have a ticket for any of the shows on the tour, you can hold on to them and they will be valid for the new 2021 dates.

We know these dates might seem far away, but we’re hoping that the situation will be better by then and that we won’t have to postpone again. There’s obviously a lot of uncertainty, but we want you to know that your health and safety are our number one priority and will guide all our decisions.

We are also mindful that some of you might have experienced financial hardship because of the pandemic or might no longer be able to attend the shows next year. We are really sorry if you’re in that situation. On June 15, you should receive an email from your original point of purchase with info about receiving a refund, if you choose to do so.

We want to thank you all for your patience and understanding in these extremely weird and difficult times. We appreciate it so much and can’t wait to be able to hang out with all of you again.
