Chuck teases the look of European tour’s setlist: greatest hits, focus on new record & new medley!

With Simple Plan’s European tour with State Champs and Mayday Parade being less than a month away, the local media are starting to pay more attention to the the band, who are coming back to many cities on the old continent as a headlining act for the first time since 2017!

A new Spanish interview for Mondo Sonoro with Chuck Comeau recently came out, in which the drummer was asked several question about the band’s upcoming tour, including what the fans can expect the setlist to look like. Chuck confirmed the tour’s setlist (while it may change from day to day slightly) will include the band’s greatest hits but will also be mostly focused on songs from their new album Harder Than It Looks (2022). Another thing worst mentioning is that Simple Plan want to include a special medley, where they try to incorporate short snippets of their songs to include as many as they can. This is remindful of the “No Pads medley” the band did in 2012 – given that the band is celebrating 20 years since the release of Still Not Getting Any next year, there’s hopes that this new medley could be a SNGA one.

Check out Chuck’s full response below:

“We haven’t done a headlining tour in Europe since 2017. So I think what we want is to just give our fans what they’ve been waiting for for a long time, which is a longer show. A show that spans all eras of Simple Plan, from the early days, which I know our fans love, to the new album that came out last year. So that it’s like a “greatest hits,” but with an emphasis on the new record, of course, and the new music. But we really want to play everything, every song that people want to hear. That’s really what we’re trying to do. And we’re going to change the setlist a little bit and have some songs come in and out and change every night. And we’re even trying to build a medley because we don’t have time to play every song that everyone wants to hear. We thought that maybe if we found a way to not play the whole song, but rather small fragments of several together, we would please more fans, or so we hope.”

Simple Plan to return to Colombia in 2024 & also add more European summer tourdates!

Simple Plan are keeping their promises and they’re trying to get back to many places where they haven’t performed in a while on their next year’s tour. One of the latest additions to these places is Bogotá, in Colombia (where the local fans haven’t seen the band since their last show there in 2012), where Simple Plan will head to right after their Brazilian tour. The band will perform at the Glory Dayz Festival in Bogotá on March 13th 2024 and tickets are already on sale.

Another addition to the tourlist are some extra summer European shows. Simple Plan have been announced to perform on two more European festivals – Hellfest in France (June 30th) and Rock Werchter Festival in Netherlands (July 5th). And besides that they will also be added as the opening act on some more Avril Lavigne shows in Europe over the summer. We’ve already announced I-Days in Italy, but besides that you will also be able to catch them with Avril in the UK, as they’ll perform in Cardiff (July 2nd) and Manchester (July 3rd).

Simple Plan announce more shows for 2024: Brazil sideshow, European festivals and another When We Were Young!

2024 is already shaping up to be quite the tour year for Simple Plan! As you all already know, the beginning of the year will be dedicated to their first headlining tour with Harder Than It Looks and they will be bringing it to Europe in January and February. After that, SP will finally make a grand return to Brazil in March, after which they will head over to Australia in April. And in June and July the guys will be back in Europe for the summer festival season.

Now, recently, Simple Plan announced a few more dates for 2024! So, let’s have a look at them.

First, Simple Plan added an I Wanna Be Tour sideshow in Sao Paulo, Brazil, as their Sao Paulo on March 1st, I Wanna Be Tour date a day later sold-out within just a few hours. This is a great way to see Simple Plan on their own smaller headlining show before the bigger festival type of gigs in Brazil with the I Wanna Be Tour, which comprises of multiple bands on the line-up.

Another additions on the 2024 tourlist are some new festival dates in Europe: Simple Plan added some dates in France, Netherlands and Italy, which means they will be staying in Europe at least until the beginning of July, meaning there will very likely be more European dates in the beginning of July.

And finally! The extremely successful When We Were Young festival will be repeated next year again and after this year’s excellent two shows, the SP boys will of course be back for the 2024 edition. While We Were Young will take place on October 19th (which has already sold-out) and also 20th in Las Vegas. Oh, and one more exciting bit: all bands present at the festival will be playing one chosen album in full – Simple Plan picked their debut album, No Pads, No Helmets… Just Balls. Exciting!

Here’s a recap of the newly added dates:

1/MAR/2024 – I Wanna Be tour – Sao Paulo, Brazil

26/JUN/2024 – Festival de Nîmes – Nîmes, France

28/JUN/2024 – Jera On Air Festival – Ysselsteyn, Netherlands

07/JUL/2024 – I-Days – Milan, Italy

19/OCT/2024 – When We Were Young – Las Vegas, NV, USA – SOLD-OUT

20/OCT/2024 – When We Were Young – Las Vegas, NV, USA

Pierre discusses plans for next SP album & the release of possible new material next year, including a piano version of ‘Anxiety’

Simple Plan’s lead singer Pierre Bouvier recently appeared on the podcast The Plug with Neil Griffiths, where he discussed the band’s history, the legacy of pop-punk bands in the world of music and also the band’s future plans.

When being asked about whether the band is already preparing another album, Pierre confirmed that there are plans for new material being worked on next year, it’s now just the quesiton of time scheduling, due to touring keeping them very busy for most of next year. But Pierre seems to be certain that at least the creative process of writing the 7th Simple Plan record could at least begin in 2024. Read his full response below:

“Yes, we’re definitely thinking about some new material. And I know I have to get to it. And I have a little bit of time right now to do that. However the touring is going so well, it’s kind of hard to find the balance, because we’re such perfectionists, we don’t crank out a record in three weeks – and some bands do it and that’s to be debated whether it’s a good idea or not. But we take a long time to make a record – like writing a great song for me usually takes (because I write it here in this room), I put it together as a demo, so it takes a while. Writing a song for me takes a few days, so to write twelve song […] takes a long time. But we definitely, we’re not gonna stop making music. It’s just a matter of when can we find some time, cause we have these two months off coming up and then next year’s already lined up to be so intense in a wonderful way. But can the fans expect new music? Absolutely. […] I’m sure [the new Simple Plan album] will be created next year. Now whether it will be released next year, that I don’t know. But I know that Sebastien and Jeff have been telling me like: ‘So… new songs… it’s probably a good time!’ And I’m like: ‘I know, I know, I know…’”

Pierre Bouvier

However it looks like Simple Plan might be in the process of releasing some stuff from their archives. As we know from previous interviews, there are some left-over songs from the process of creating the previous album and besides that there are also some new versions of already released songs that might get to see the light of the day – namely a new piano version of ‘Anxiety’ (the 5th song on Simple Plan’s latest labum ‘Harder Than It Looks’, which deals with the issue of mental health struggles that the lead singer has himself dealt with in the past). Pierre seems to be currently in the process of convincing the rest of his band members to release this version, which he stated to be very much in love with:

“And we actually have, we’ve got some stuff in the archives. There’s a couple of versions of some songs. There’s some unreleased stuff that we have, that I wanna put out. Notably, I have this awesome version I’ve been trying to push on the band. I’ve got this piano and vocal kind of ballad-y version of Anxiety that I’m in love with. And I’m like: ‘Guys! Can we just put this out?’

Pierre Bouvier

Remind yourselves of the studio version of ‘Anxiety’ that appears on Simple Plan’s latest release ‘Harder Than It Looks’:

Simple Plan to return to Europe for summer festival season!

Even after the announcement of their European “Hard As Rock tour” with State Champs and Mayday Parade in the beginning of 2024, Simple Plan still don’t seem to be over with the old continent just yet.

The band has recently appeared on the line-up of two German festivals for the summer of 2023 – Southside Festival and Hurricane Festival (both of which take place between 21st and 23rd June), giving the European fans even more of a chance to see them live next year.

And as per usual, it still might not be the only two places they will hit in the summer. Let’s wait and see!

Till then, make sure to grab tickets for the January/February European tour, which is selling out by the minutes. Check out the full list of upcoming tourdates alongside information on whch shows are already sold-out in our Tour section.
