Pierre and Chuck are still very busy at their California homes, working tirelessly on new songs for the next Simple Plan album – and they continued working on them this week with a new addition to their already pretty interesting list of collaborators. After first-time co-writers Travis Clark from We The Kings and the ex-member of Neck Deep Fil Thorpe-Evans, Simple Plan’s main songwriting duo now reached out to someone they already had the chance to work with before: Ryan Stewart.
“Had a blast writing and demoing some new tunes with Simple Plan’s Pierre Bouvier & Chuck Comeau this week. These guys are sooooo good, they always up my game.”
– Ryan Stewart –
You may recall Ryan Stewart’s work with Chuck and Pierre on two songs from their last album Taking One For The Team: the fans’ favorites: ‘Perfectly Perfect’ and ‘P.S. I Hate You’. Besides his songwriting with Simple Plan back in 2015, Ryan Stewart can pride himself on his other previous credits that include songs for artists such as Hedley, Carly Rae Jepsen or Bif Naked.

A very big and exciting event took place yesterday at Tempest Freerunning in Hawthorne, California, where YouTubers Elton Castee, Scotty Sire and other known faces from their TFIL (The Fuck It List) YouTube channel, were joined by hundreds of people in order to break a number of Guinness world records together. Some of these world records attempts included XGames Gold Medalists doing 24 backflips in a minute and parkour & slackline athletes breaking other records, most people in dinosaur costumes at one place, world’s largest ball pit, most nationalities together record and others.
One of the special guests of this event was also Simple Plan’s lead singer Pierre Bouvier, who first met Elton Castee at Warped Tour last year, where SP even had this YouTuber join them on stage during I’m Just A Kid. This time however, the table have turned and it was Pierre who joined Elton and Scotty in the song “The Fun In Life”, which was performed during the largest ball pit attempt and he also appeared in the dinosaur costumes bit.
The whole music video filmed at the event should be released at the TFIL YouTube channel on February 11th.
And while we wait for the video and some more words on which of the world records were actually accomplished yesterday, below you can check out a couple of videos posted by various attendees of yesterday’s event to give you a little insight into what we can expect from the upcoming Elton Castee/Scotty Sire/Pierre Bouvier music video:
For 14 years now, by attending Simple Plan shows, buying their biography, supporting their benefit events or simply by sending a cheque to the Simple Plan Foundation, thousands of people have been helping Chuck, David, Jeff, Sebastien and Pierre gather funds that could later be sent to many deserving places and organisations – most of them focusing on helping young people in social and medical need and also encouraging music as a way to help young people find a passion in life.
Yesterday, Simple Plan Foundation announced its donations for 2018. For last year, the Foundation will be giving away $225 000 to over 30 charitable organizations, bringing total donations to 2,500,000$ since the Simple Plan Foundation was started.
Amongst these organizations that will be benefiting from the Foundation’s support this year will be some of those that the SPF has been supporting for many years now, including the St-Justine Children Hospital, Montreal’s Children Hospital, Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto, The Lighthouse Children and Families, as well as Dr. Julien’s Music Garage, the Portage Foundation and War Child Canada. The SPF also added some new recipients this year: for instance the Dr. Clown Foundation and the New Pathways Foundation, a charity devoted to helping First Nations youth in Canada.
After Pierre took over social media recently with his utter excitement of the current songwriting process, Chuck decided to join him and shared his thoughts on the progress on his own Instagram yesterday. Travis Clark, the lead singer of We The Kings, who joined Simple Plan’s songwriting duo again this week to help with the writing process, then left a comment on Chuck’s Instagram post, letting the fans know that they should get ready for a really “sick record”!
Check out both of the musicians’ posts below:
“Back at it writing songs for album 6! Another great week with the amazing Travis Clark and the equally awesome Pierre Bouvier.
So stoked on what we are coming up with and so grateful I have the opportunity to be creative with such talented people. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Also extremely thankful to all of you for still giving us the chance to make new music after 20 years as a band. I realize more than ever what a privilege that is and I want you all to know that we don’t take it for granted. We’re gonna make an incredible album for you and are pouring our hearts and souls into it. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻”

Over the past week, Pierre and Chuck have been secretly working on some more new songs with the help of their friend Travis Clark (the lead singer of We The Kings), who they had previously co-written with back in December of last year.
From the Instagram Stories published by both Pierre and Travis, we’ve learned that the three songwriters co-wrote again at Chuck’s house, where the new picture of them and the result of their song-writting session was at least one new “killer song”, written yesterday.
Besides talking about the songwriting collaboration with Travis, in his series of Instagram Stories taken on his way back home, Pierre revealed the results from the poll he ran a couple days ago, when he asked the fans to tell him which style of songs they would like to hear on the next record. Turns out the fans’ opinions were very diverse, confirming to Pierre and his band that their decision to go with multiple styles (pop-punk, pop and ballads) is the right way to go. Pierre also mentioned that as far as lyrical content goes, there’s a number of themes they are touching with the new songs, with some important messages they would like to pass on.
Check out everything Pierre said in his review of the songwriting process so far below and also don’t forget to watch the Instagram Stories we put together which also include shots by Travis from behind the scenes of this songwriting session at Chuck’s house:
“Hey what’s up, friends!
I just wanted to touch base after our last conversation we had together – I am currently now on the way back home after writing with Chuck and Travis from We The Kings. And we wrote a killer song! I can’t wait for you guys to hear it.
So yeah, I just wanted to thank you everyone out there who wrote back and sent me direct messages, responding to my question, which was what kind of songs do you wanna hear on the next record, what kind of style do you like. Well, the results are in! And shockingly, a large majority of our fanbase out there has requested fo us to go in a more country direction. I’m shocked! I mean, I dig it – more slack guitars, more twang… it’s gonna be awesome! Can’t wait.
Naaah, I’m just kidding! No, the responses were great, I had so many different opinions, which just kinda confirmed that we should just keep doing what we do, which is having a lot of diversity on the record. Yeah, so I thought it was really cool that most people out there really wanna see that diversity. You know, the pop-punk songs, the fast aggressive songs and then some of the more mid-tempo-y cool pop stuff and then the heartfelt slow songs.
So that’s what we’re doing: we’re doing all kinds of cool songs and so far I have to say I’m really excited about the new material, I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again. Great stuff, such cool songs, really cool themes.. I think the fans are gonna love it.
And I think the lyrical content we have so far is really strong, I think the message that we have is really heartfelt and really important in a lot of ways, so yeah, it’s gonna be a great Simple Plan record. You guys are gonna love it!
So anyways, just wanted to say thank you for everyone out there who wrote back and gave me their feedback, I thought it was really cool to hear from you guys, to see the different opinions, and yeah, I’m looking forward to finishing this record up and getting it out to you as soon as possible! Talk soon!
