VIDEO: Simple Plan interviewed at Slippery Rock University

Last week, when Simple Plan did their one-off special performance at the campus of the Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania, besides meeting some fans they also did an interview with the university newspaper SRU Rocket.

In the interview Pierre, Chuck, Jeff and Seb discussed their favorite album to record (Still Not Getting Any) and also dived into their influences and how they see pop punk fit in the current music scene. Watch the interview in full on the video below:

Summer Paradise becomes Simple Plan’s first video to reach 100 million views on YouTube!

Six years since its official premiere in 2012, Simple Plan’s music video for ‘Summer Paradise’ (feat. Sean Paul) finally reached 100 million views on YouTube, making it the very first music video by this band to reach this huge milestone. The video was directed by Simple Plan’s long-time collaborator Mark Staubach and Randall RT! Throne in Barbados back in March 2012.

And it isn’t just the video itself that has become so popular! The song, which is featured on Simple Plan’s fourth studio album ‘Get Your Heart On!’, has become one of Simple Plan’s most popular songs to date – especially in Canada, Europe and Australia. The song is currently certified triple platinum in Canada, double platinum in Australia, platinum in Switzerland, Denmark and Italy and gold in Germany and Austria.

Due to its popularity, many versions of this song have been released over the years, such as feat. MKTO, K’Naan, Taka from One OK Rock, a couple of French versions and many others.

With the coming of winter, let’s remind ourselves of this classic track and bring a little bit of summer back to our lives:

Simple Plan rocked the Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania with a one-off show!

Some lucky inhabitants of the town called Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania had the unique opportunity last night to see Simple Plan perform at the local university campus alongside an opening band called Punchline – and all that for just $10!

The members of the band finally went back to work yesterday after a couple months off that some of them spent either at home or vacationing at places such as Italy (Seb) or Barbados (Pierre).

Since the band has not played in a while, I’m sure many of you are interested in the setlist that the band chose to use for this one-off show. Simple Plan decided to go with a regular mix of songs from all five of their records, mostly however still concentrating on songs from the first two records, which is understandable as those album were the most popular in the U.S. And it’s worth noting that even though the No Pads tour is no more, the guys still kept the now classic entertaining switcheroo between Chuck and Pierre during Grow Up.

Have a look at the setlist from Simple Plan’s show at Slippery Rock University below:

1. I’d Do Anything
2. Jump
3. Welcome To My Life
4. Jet Lag
5. Boom!

14 years since the release of ‘Still Not Getting Any’

Precisely 14 years ago on this day, October 26th 2004, Simple Plan released arguably one of their most-popular records ever ‘Still Not Getting Any’.

Many Simple Plan fans, who were too young to begin being a fan in the No Pads era, often remember the songs from the band’s second album, often shortened to SNGA, as the official starting point of their Simple Plan obsession. Songs like ‘Welcome To My Life’, ‘Crazy’ or ‘Untitled’ made Simple Plan a commercial success all over the world. Over the years, this Bob Rock produced album sold over 2 million copies worldwide and because of that it was also certified Platinum in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and United States, Gold in Brazil, France, Japan and Mexico and Silver in the United Kingdom.

The album garnered some fairly positive reviews after its release. For instance Rolling Stone gave it 3/5 stars, stating that “it’s goofy as all hell, but don’t be surprised if you catch yourself singing along.” Alternative Press magazine also published a review of the record in 2004, comparing it to the band’s first studio effort: “Some excessive ballads aside, Simple Plan’s second disc all but perfects the one before it.” E! Online also pitched in and in its review saw Still Not Getting Any as a important addition to the pop-punk genre: “This isn’t just a step in the right direction for the band, it’s–believe it or not–a good move for the pop-punk genre as a whole.”

And while we could also definitely find some less favorable reviews, what’s more important is the album’s legacy and the fact that its songs meant a great deal to many fans, who were able to relate to many of the themes that the album touched within its lyrics – topics such as relationship struggles, teenage angst, feelings of misunderstanding, desperation and loneliness and last but not the least also various social issues.

Let’s celebrate this special Still Not Getting Any anniversary by reminding ourselves of these now classic songs by Simple Plan – and there’s so many to choose from. We can already tell you that picking our favorite would be impossible:
