Members of Simple Plan reflect on Paramore’s debut album’s 10th anniversary

Tomorrow, on June 26th, it will be exactly 10 years since the release of Paramore’s debut album “All We Know Is Falling” (2005), the album that the – now Grammy winning – band kicked off their career with. To commemorate one of the most important albums of pop-punk history, Fuse.tv interviewed a number of artists, who shared their memories of this album and the beginnings of Paramore.

And as Simple Plan were a band who took Paramore as their opening band on one of their first tours, it was a given that they had to be featured in this article. Check out what the band members had to say about Paramore:

David: We were the first band to take them on tour!

Chuck: It was 2004. We had a call from Lyor Cohen, he was the president of Atlantic Records. He was like, “Hey, we have this young band that are coming up. Would you do us a favor and take them on tour? They’re called Paramore.” We had never really heard of them—they were just signed, never really toured before. They sent us some songs and we were like, “This sounds great, we’d love to take them out.” They were 16.

David: I remember the drummer coming up to me like, “Hey, do you want to tune my drums?” because I love drums a lot. He was so awesome. He was already killing it on the drums and he was 15. It was great. Once they had some people from MTV come to a show and the bass player asked me to use my wireless because they had cables but they wanted to do that spin that the bass player was doing off the guitar player’s back. I let him use my wireless so he could do the spin properly.

Chuck: That record came out a few months after that tour and I think our fans—all the Simple Plan fans are open-minded and love to hear new music and new bands. Right after that we took the Plain White T’s right before they had their big break so that was cool.

David: We break a lot of bands. Hayley was already such a great performer, even then.

Chuck: All of them. When they played, fans responded. They got their first fans off playing live. Just like us, when we played our first shows opening for Sugar Ray, they were in the same position. The label went to Sugar Ray and asked them a favor…then we opened up for the Bosstones because we could play live. If you can pull off the songs, kids will say “Who’s that band? What’s their record? I want buy that shirt.” That’s how it’s organically done.

Videos and photos from new interviews

Simple Plan are slowly getting back into the spotlight and that also means a lot more media coverage. For example, Chuck and David recently gave an interview for FUSE TV, in which the guys talked about their return to Warped Tour, reaction of other bands to them on tour and also about the new album. According to David, the guys still do not know the exact release date, however they are aiming for October.

Another interview the members of Simple Plan did was for Ottawa Bluesfest when they performed at this event last Saturday. Check out what Jeff and Chuck had to say in the following video:

MINI NEWS: “Saturday” NOT Simple Plan’s first single and more!

Even though many sources claimed so in the past, the first fully released song “Saturday” from Simple Plan’s upcoming (yet-untitled) fifth album, is in fact NOT the band’s first single from this album, just a teaser song, just like “You Suck At Love” was released early on during the GYHO era (however “Jet Lag” was the first official single). Simple Plan themselves confirmed this information in a couple replies on Twitter yesterday, saying: “Saturday is just a teaser since everyone waited so long! Can’t wait to show you our first single!”

As “Saturday” previously caused an uproar among many fans due to its “poppy” sound, this may come as very welcome news to some. It means that there will be a completely different song, which will be put on radios (although “Saturday” is being played on some already) and most importantly for which we can expect a full-on music video. Whether the next song the band plans to release this week is the new single is currently unknown.

Speaking of music videos – according to another reply from the official Simple Plan Twitter account, the band will be “filming a few videos in the next bit.” What’s interesting is that the account mentioned “a few” music videos, not just one. It may be that to save time and money, Simple Plan may film a couple of music videos in a course of a few days, which will then be released one by one throughout the year.

You may recall that Simple Plan did this once before during the GYHO era, when they filmed music videos for “Can’t Keep My Hands Off You”, “Jet Lag” and also “Astronaut” very close to each other before releasing the first one. This is helpful mostly because the band then wants to get back on tour and returning back to filming locations would be time and money consuming. This way they can have the videos backed up to release them when the right time comes.

Final mini-news is David related. If you don’t follow David on Instagram or Twitter, you may not know that a few weeks ago David took up a course on skydiving at Parachutisme Nouvel Air and 5 days ago he made his first official solo jump [see picture here]. David’s reasoning for this adrenalin-filled activity is simple: “The reason I’m doing this is I want to be able to get my own rig and travel the world with it so I can see the places we go to from the best angle there is… It is live Google Earth!”

Simple Plan in studio recording special soundtrack project

While the guys have finished the official L.A. studio sessions weeks ago, they clearly still aren’t done with recording. As the band’s lead guitarist Jeff Stinco just revealed on Twitter, the members who are currently in Canada – him, Sebastien and David – got together today to record the bed tracks for a special project with Pierre’s vocals coming soon. In particular, Jeff mentioned the word “soundtrack” in the following tweet.

And while we try to figure out which movie Simple Plan’s special project could be featured in, check out some of the pictures from today’s recording of it that Jeff shared on the Internet:

Saturday’s appearances of David and Chuck

Yesterday, on June 13th, both David and Chuck from Simple Plan attended some interesting events – although on the opposite coasts of North America.

As announced earlier this week, David once again took part in the March to close all slaughterhouses in Montreal (thanks a lot to KARA for most of the photos). Chuck on the other hand attended the launch of a new solo art show called “Realfake” by the artist CANTSTOPGOODBOY, which was held at the Art Angels gallery in LA, co-owned by Chuck’s wife Jacquelin. You can check out some of the first pictures from both of these events in the gallery:
