Happy birthday David

The time of the year has come again and Simple Plan’s bassist is turning one year older again – to be exact, David Desrosiers is 30 years old today!

On behalf of SimplePlan.cz I would like to wish David all the best, lots of hapiness, love, health and of course success with the upcoming Simple Plan record.

Happy birthday David!

Pierre and David at Karv L’Anti Gala 2010

Last Tuesday, August 24th 2010, Pierre and David attended an event called Karv L’Anti Gala 2010. Along with them, also Patrick Langlois followed the event as a journalist for his programme Objectif Coulisses and made a video in which the guys from Simple Plan also make a little cameo:

Also, in our gallery you can now find first photos from Karv L’Anti Gala 2010: including also one of David with the band The New Cities, which attended the event as well:

And thanks to @xmarineSP here is one French interview with Pierre and Davd from the same day:

Interview with David from the Osheaga festival

Few days ago, David attended the Montreal music festival called Osheaga. Even though he was there primary as a fan, the MusiquePlus station found him and their reporter decided to interview him. You can check out the French interview, in which Patrick has a little cameo, by clicking on the picture below.

And if you are just as French illiterate as I am, you may appreciate Sab for translating for us what the interview is about:

– David says he is having a great day at Osheaga because he saw Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros (a band he wanted to see for a long time because a friend of him plays in the band).

– He explains that he came to see Cage The Elephant, but the band didn’t came because their bus driver couldn’t cross the border (apparently because of a drug affair or a criminal record). Then he jokes saying that Simple Plan hire good bus drivers, and for them a tourbus is like their own home, so people are allowed to take drugs but not in the bus.

– The interviewer notices the funny situation that the Cage The Elephant’s show is cancelled while Simple Plan had to cancel their show in China, and she asks (kidding) who had troubles at the border there. David answers that it wasn’t because of the border but because of “Mother Nature which decided to start crying, make flash of lighting and thunder” and it was too dangerous for them to play in these conditions. But he says that the band wanted to play for the fans: they did a real acoustic show with no microphone, just guitars and then a megaphone and they moved around between each songs in order to be close to the crowd. He explains that most of the people there went away when they heard that the show will be cancelled but some other stayed and he says that these fans are “super hardcore” fans.

– He also talks about the album, saying that they are going to start the drums, then the rest during August, after their last show in Levis. The album is going to be a good continuity for them, with a new producer (Brian Howes). The interviewer asks about the duo with Rivers Cuomo, from Weezer; David says that it is already done, it is a co-writing work with him for a good song which is going to be recorded.

– David is “very, very, very excited to see Arcade Fire” on stage. He bought the vinyl of their new CD because it released before the proper CD. Then he talks about vinyls, he likes to listen to music on them. He even has the last record of Simple Plan on vinyl that he bought in the USA where it was released in several colours as a collector item. “It’s cool to have your own band on a vinyl”.

– The last book he read: it’s rare when David reads, but the book was The Perfum, by Patrick Suskind, a long time ago. [Patrick comes and says David can’t read and explains him that a real book is a book with words and not only a book where there are images open out from it]

– The last movie: The Green Zone (that he liked) and the Millennium saga (that he loved), during the 15 hours flight to China. Moreover he thinks that the American adaptation of the Millennium saga is a big mistake and a bad idea because it will be hard another Lisbeth Salender as good as the original one.

– Best summer song: Caesar, by I Blame Coco, featuring the singer Robyn on the chorus.

– With who he would like to collaborate: with Robyn as female singer, or Weezer. Since it is happening he says that it is kind of a dream coming true for them.

During the most recent Simple Plan’s show in New Richmond two days ago, while performing “Perfect”, David decided to go to the crowd and start crowdsurfing above fans’ heads along with his bassguitar and even playing it. Check out this awesome video capturing David’s crowdsurfing moment:

Review of Simple Plan’s show in New Richmond

Source: Cyberpresse.ca

A new article about Simple Plan’s show in New Richmond appeared on canadian news server Cyberpresse.ca. Apart from the show review, you can also find there an interview with David, where you will learn for example who influenced David the most during his childhood and also a very surprising mention about a show in Korea, which should, according to this article, happen on August 8th, even though this show has not been confirmed anywhere else. Here is the English translation of this French article (thanks to Sab):

If it had been possible to canalize the energy coming from the crowd during the third show of the Festival d’Été of Quebec, in New Richmond; Gaspésie wouldn’t need electricity from wind turbines for several days.

At least 10 000 people (a rough assessment since the exact number of spectators is not released yet) attended to the show of Béta, The New Cities and, especially, Simple Plan.

The more bands hit the stage, the more the intensity of the crowd’s screams got louder.

When Simple Plan appeared around 9:30pm, it was almost madness, especially because of the young girls. Songs like Shut Up and Jump led the 16-songs-long show, beside the encore. The band played the brand new song You Suck @ Love for the first time in Quebec.

The bass player David Desrosiers made the crowd a little more impatient to see Simple Plan by coming to play drums with The New Cities, whose band members introduced him as “the Matane shrimp”.

Interviewed at the Soleil between two shows, David Desrosiers from Matane indeed, explained that the drums used to be his favourite instrument. “I play in studio, sometimes in rehearsals.” Yesterday evening he was well surrounded since his Mom and some of friends from Matane were in the crowd.

“I have two good friends here, Francis Harrison and Olivier Desbiens, who played in my first bands.”

He is actually about to have some holidays in Matane soon. “I live in Montreal, on the Plateau, I love the city, but I also love to take days off in order to breathe the air from Bas-du-Fleuve.”

Matane is also a way to be back among several members of his family and memories of his paternal grandpa, Jean-Yves, who has been a big source of influence in his career choice, even if he passed 10 years ago. Moreover, he saluted his influence in front of cameras, at the ADISQ gala, four years ago.

“His musical talent was indescribable. He played the piano, sang during the mass. My father [an athlete] uses to say that the musical talent skipped a generation in the family; from Jean-Yves to me.”

David Desrosiers and Simple Plan were in China one week ago. “The show was cancelled because of the rain. But we played for the fans, under the police’s escort”, he said.

On August 6th , Simple Plan will be in Levis, before they perform in… Korea, on the 8th, despite the fact that the trip wastes two days. “I know, this is crazy.”

Tonight, the Festival d’Été of Quebec in New Richmond ends its programming with Vincent Valliere and Blue Rodeo.
