Simple Plan already have “a bulk of songs ready” for 6th album

In a new interview from Hungary, Simple Plan’s guitarist Jeff Stinco discussed the band’s relationship with fans, the reasonings behind David Desrosiers’ absence on tour and also surprisingly hinted on the fact that the band may already have some songs ready to go for their next album.

The Hungarian server Life.hu published an interview with Jeff Stinco today, in which the guitarist revealed a number of interesting information. First of all, this was probably one of the first interviews in which a member of the band opened up about David’s struggles with depression and how the band has dealt with this situation. Jeff even revealed that David insisted that the band continued touring without him. Check out Jeff’s quote below:

“We have a challenge on this particular tour. David, our bass player, is actually not with us. He’s having a really hard time, he’s suffering from depression, which is something that, you know, a few years back, I don’t think we could’ve discussed openly, but I think people are more open to it now. So he’s taking care of himself. And I think that as a band we decided to support him and basically allow him to take that time off and keep touring. And he wanted us to keep going, he wanted us to keep touring.

Towards the end of the interview, the conversation moved to the ever-lasting elephant in the room: when will Simple Plan release a new album? Jeff once again repeated that the band would like to not take as long as they previously have with TOFTT to make a new album but besides that he also dropped a very interesting hint on Simple Plan already having some material to work with! See what Jeff said below:

“You know what, we were planning on celebrating the 15th anniversary around the anniversary of the record, on March 19th, you know 3-4 shows and it’s becoming a full year of touring. But after that, we have to stop. Make a new record. And this time around we’re not gonna wait as long to put out new music. We have a bulk of songs that are already ready but we’re perfectionists and we wanna make sure that you know, like, what we release is actually up to par. And we’re ambitious guys, you know, we wanna… I told you earlier, we wanna keep growing and evolve and that demands time. So we’re gonna spend the time that it takes in the studio to develop those songs. As I said, it’s a work in progress. We’re gonna finish this touring, get into the studio and man, hopefully we’re not gonna take a full year of recording like we did the last time.”

As you know from the SimplePlan.cz interview, the band definitely expects some song-writing to be done but it’s very interesting to hear that Simple Plan already have some songs they can use as a starting ground. Given that Simple Plan never write on the road, it is very possible that the songs Jeff mentioned in the interview are some of the “left-overs” from the song-writing sessions from Taking One For The Team. Chuck and Pierre wrote over 80 songs for TOFTT but only 14 of them made it onto the record. Now, not all of the remaining 66 songs are completely finished, but some of them might be and perhaps these are the songs Jeff is thinking off.

It wouldn’t be the first time for Simple Plan to use old material for a new record. In 2013 Simple Plan released a whole EP “Get Your Heart On: The Second Coming”, which featured songs originally written for Get Your Heart On. Similarly also GYHO itself included a bonus track called ‘Never Should’ve Let You Go‘, which the boys wrote for their third, self-titled album. In most cases however, Simple Plan usually start working on a new album from scratch.

How do you feel about Simple Plan possibly using songs they wrote for their previous record? Would you like to listen to more songs created in the “TOFTT” era? Let us know in the comments!

David expected to be back with Simple Plan for festival in his hometown Matane, QC

A press conference about the upcoming Éole en musique festival in Canada was held yesterday and revealed some new information about this three-day event, which is expected to attract about 25 000 people.

More acts have been added to the line-up and it has been announced that Final State will be opening for Simple Plan on August 12th.

According to Radio Canada, the promoters of this festival also revealed some very interesting news regarding the return of David Desrosiers to Simple Plan on this event, which takes place in his hometown – the city of Matane, Quebec. As you know, on May 25th it was announced that due to his struggles with depression, David would not be able to join Simple Plan on their European tour and would take the time to try to get better. At the press conference, the promoters specified the following:

“At the moment, everything indicates that David Desrosiers, bassist of Simple Plan originating from Matane, will be performing on August 12, in spite of health problems, unless stated otherwise.”

If nothing changes, this could mean David’s possible return on stage for the band’s shows in August, which include a number of festivals in Canada and also the whole tour across the United States. On the other hand, no official statement regarding David’s current health situation has been given, so we will have to wait and see what the future brings. We still all wish David all the best and hope he takes as much time as he needs to recover.

David Desrosiers not to join Simple Plan on European tour: reveals struggles with depression

For a couple months now, many of you have surely noticed David’s absence in various band-related issues. Him not attending VIP parties, interviews, skipping the South American tour and not travelling with the band to China this year. Today, Simple Plan alongside David have released a statement finally revealing that David’s absence from the spotlight has been due to his personal struggles with depression. This, unfortunately, is also the reason why David will not be present at the upcoming European tour, which starts this Sunday.

Read David’s statement below:

“Hello everyone. It is with regret that I must announce that I will not be able to join the guys on the upcoming European tour. I have battled depression on and off for a long while now but the time has come to explain why there are times when I cannot be with my bandmates playing shows for you. At the moment, I am fighting a major depression that prevents me from enjoying life and doing the things I love such as playing music. Many of our songs, and our work with the Simple Plan Foundation, speak of the hope that must be kept in difficult times. I truly believe in this message and I assure you that I will be back soon!”

The rest of the band have also revealed a statement regarding David’s absence on tour. Read it here:

“We are sorry to inform you that David won’t be able to join us for our upcoming European tour. You can read a statement from David that explains the situation on his Instagram.

As stated in his message, David has struggled with episodes of depression for a long time now and this situation has sometimes made it difficult for him to deal with the demands of being in a band, touring and playing shows night after night. Following his wishes, we’ve always kept this information private. Today, he feels it’s important to share this with all of you for the first time and we fully support his decision.

David is our friend first and foremost and the number one priority for all of us right now is his health and well-being. After talking to him this week, we’ve made the decision together that it was better for David to stay home and focus on his recovery. We know some of you will be disappointed to hear this news and we are extremely sorry.

Depression is a serious illness that can affect anyone and David’s struggles with this issue have hit close to home and inspired us to help charitable organizations focusing on mental health through the Simple Plan Foundation. We hope that discussing this openly can help some of you who might be dealing with similar issues.

It really breaks our hearts to see our friend and band mate go through these difficult times, but we know he will overcome this and be back on stage with us very soon. We can’t wait to welcome him back! In the meantime, with David’s blessings, all the upcoming European dates will go on as planned. We look forward to some amazing shows and to see all our European fans!”

– Pierre, Chuck, Jeff and Sebastien –

Chuck, Jeff and Pierre also sent David well-wishes separately on their personal Instagrams, saying:

“I love you my friend. Stay strong. Can’t wait to have you back with us feeling better. ❤️”

– Chuck Comeau –

“My brother forever. Get well soon, David. I know you’ll come back stronger and healthier than ever.”

– Pierre Bouvier –

“Get well soon brother! Supporting you all the way! David’s a courageous mofo: I’m proud of him for calling it like it is and for seeking the support he needs. It takes balls to bring your knee to the ground to eventually stand tall again. Dude, I still won’t high five you after you stick your hand in your pants but I’m looking forward to playing next to you again very soon ;-).”

– Jeff Stinco –

“I’m behind you, buddy.”

– Seb Lefebvre –

On behalf of SimplePlan.cz, I would like to declare my full support of Simple Plan’s decision in order to focus on David’s health. David, and I believe I’m saying this on behalf of every fan, be strong. We believe in you. See you another time!
