Simple Plan receive the Allan Slaight Humanitarian Spirit Award

As it was announced a couple months ago, at this year’s Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Awards gala, Simple Plan became the recipients of the Allan Slaight Humanitarian Spirit Award that is annually awarded to “young Canadians who have the ability to turn their talent into inspiration and who are making a positive impact in the field of music, film, literature, visual or performing arts, sports, innovation or philanthropy.”

Simple Plan received the award in recognition of their global fundraising efforts and dedication to youth welfare, both individually and through the Simple Plan Foundation.

Four members of Simple Plan (all except for David) were present at the ceremony last night to accept the award. Apart from the speech, Pierre later came back on the stage to perform This Song Saved My Life acoustically.

Check out the pictures from the acceptance of the award and from Pierre’s performance in the gallery:

Congratulations again, Simple Plan! Well deserved!

Chuck Comeau at Canadian Music Week’s panels

This morning, Chuck Comeau attended two panels at the Canadian Music Week as a speaker along with Simple Plan’s manager, Eric Lawrence. The panels were entitled “Road Cases: Exporting Simple Plan – Case Study” and “Coalition Music Artist Enterpreneur” – and both of them dealt with the business side of music.

As Eric Lawrence said on one of the panels: “It is now a must that there’s somebody in the band who understands business. There’s gotta be somebody driving the bus” – in Simple Plan that person would be Chuck, which is why he was invited to talk about his views on the music business.

And while there is no video of the panel discussions (yet), here is a couple of interesting quotes that the attendees of these panels could hear from Chuck Comeau:

“We not the best band, but we’re going to outwork all the other bands.”

“It’s all art. It’s business – but it is all an extension of your art and who you are.” – on music and business.

“You have to go. That’s how you get there.” – on touring internationally.

“This is the goal and we need to get to that.” on Simple Plan’s dreams in the early stage of their career.

“Nobody cares more about your band than your band – nobody cares more about your music than yourself.”

“When you sell more records, it matters even more” – on Simple Plan still being involved in every decision.

“Wherever there was a little spark, we chased it to start a fire.” on Simple Plan breaking internationally.

And in the gallery you can find a couple of first pictures from the panel discussions.
