The first of the three special 25th anniversary Warped Tour shows this summer is only 5 days away and as we already know, Simple Plan could not miss out on closing this big chapter of their lives by attending all three of these dates!
The grand celebrations will begin this Saturday, on June 8th in Cleveland, Ohio and besides the Warped shows, the 21+ attendees can also count on a rockin’ official after party, which will take place at Phantasy Nightclub/Complex from 10pm and will include special DJ sets from Chuck Comeau (Simple Plan), Mike Fishkin (Idobi radio), Josh Head (Emery) and JT Woodruff (Hawthorne Heights).
Check out more info about the official after party below:
As many of you, who have been to Slam Dunk this past weekend, we’re also most definitely still on a festival high. What a fantastic event to be a part of!
Now, if you didn’t get to be at either of the shows, thanks to Simple Plan’s videographer Chady Awad, you can now get a little glimpse of the Slam Dunk atmosphere both from Leeds and Hatfield. Check it out:
Tens of thousands of people from all over the world gathered in the English countryside in Leeds on Saturday and in Hatfield on Sunday to attend this year’s edition of the Slam Dunk Festival.
The 2019 line-up was a dream-come-true to many fans of various music genres – whether it was for NOFX, Bad Religion, Anti-Flag, Plain White T’s, Hellogoodbye, Lights, Waterparks, Neck Deep, All Time Low or Simple Plan, each stage always brought in thousands of people, who got to watch their favorite acts live and even discover some new ones.
As you already know, Slam Dunk Festival in Leeds and Hatfield were Simple Plan’s only two appearances in Europe this summer and the guys were really excited to be back in the United Kingdom to deliver two great performances to the Slam Dunk festival attendees.
Given that this was a festival, Simple Plan’s set was of course much shorter than during their usual headlining shows. And what did it look like, you ask? The guys played the following songs at both dates of the festival:
1. I’d Do Anything
2. Shut Up!
3. Jump
4. Jet Lag
5. Addicted
6. Boom
7. Summer Paradise
8. Welcome To My Life
9. I’m Just A Kid
10. Perfect
As always, during I’m Just A Kid, Chuck and Pierre switched places and while Pierre was behind the drums, Chuck went crowdsurfing amongst the fans. During Summer Paradise, some Slam Dunk attendees were able to score the Simple Plan beach balls that SP alongside some of their on-stage guests, including members of NOFX, kicked into the crowd. These beach balls later also impressed the members of Plain White T’s, who joked during their own set in Hatfield that they need to get some beach balls too.
Now, let’s have a look at what the shows looked like! Check out the first photos from the Slam Dunk shows in Leeds and Hatfield in our gallery:
SimplePlan.cz had the opportunity to attend the Hatfield version of Slam Dunk on Sunday, so below you can enjoy three videos we filmed for you there. Check out Simple Plan performing ‘Shut Up!’, ‘Summer Paradise’ and ‘Welcome To My Life’ live at Slam Dunk South – from a little different perspective:
Of course, being at this festival also meant that the guys from Simple Plan got to hang out with both some of their friends from other bands (such as All Time Low – by the way, Jack Barakat could not miss watching SP live, so he watched a part of this set sitting down side-stage) and also their own fans – who got to hang out with them at the signing sessions both in Leeds and in Hatfield. When it came to the signing sessions, the guys only had about an hour to sign to the huge line of people who showed up just to meet them. But it wouldn’t be Simple Plan if they didn’t try to do their best to make everyone happy, so after another band already had to take over the singing tent, they moved the signing line to the side and took pictures with the rest of the fans, who were dying to meet them. And we applaud them for it!
Below, you can check out links to albums from Leeds (left) and Hatfield (right), where we gathered some pictures from the signing sessions (including some of our own from Hatfield :)) and also some backstage photos the guys have already published online. Have a look:
And finally, we’d like to send a big thanks to SP for always being so cool with us and also to all the fans we got to meet at the show in Hatfield! Hope you enjoy your SimplePlan.cz pins :)
Just a few more hours separate us from a grand return of Simple Plan to the old continent, where they haven’t appeared since the summer of 2017. The members of the band will be catching their planes either tonight or tomorrow, as they are scheduled to perform at both dates of the Slam Dunk Festival in the United Kingdom this weekend – in Leeds on Saturday and in Hatfield on Sunday.
Besides Simple Plan, fans will be able to catch multiple other interesting bands including All Time Low, New Found Glory, Neck Deep, Waterparks, Plain White T’s, NOFX, Bullet For My Valentine, Bad Religion and many more.
As of right now, Simple Plan’s gear is already making its way to the festival ahead of the band, in order for everything to be ready when SP get to Leeds on Saturday, where Slam Dunk officially kicks off.
What can we expect from Slam Dunk Festival?
Before their show even starts at both days of the festival, the fans will be able to meet and get their hands on an autograph from Simple Plan from 2:10pm at the Amazon Music signing tent (be careful – there’s three signing tents at the festival, so if you’re there, make sure you’re standing at the right one). The signing will last 45 minutes. Check out more info about the singing below:
Finally, Simple Plan will jump on the Monster Stage right after Waterparks at 4:35pm and perform a 55-minute set. Many of you have surely been wondering about the setlist and whether the band might perform any new tracks. Since it looks like there wasn’t any rehearsal for the band prior to these shows, it’s rather unlikely this will happen, but never say never, eh? One thing is to be sure: we can expect another fantastic SP show.
As far as David, we’re almost certain he will not be joining the band for these two European shows and it’s very likely that Chady Awad will be taking over some of his parts on the stage during the SP show.
Finally, SimplePlan.cz will be present at Slam Dunk South – in Hatfield and we also have some spies over at Slam Dunk North, so make sure to follow us on social media (Facebook | Twitter | Instagram) over this weekend, we’ll be trying to update you as much as possible! Also, we’re ready to hand out some SP.cz pins so don’t hesitate to ask if you run into us :) See you at the show!
