Chuck receives a pep talk from Pierre on Day 2 of Canada Reads and moves to the next round!

Earlier today, Chuck Comeau took part in Day 2 of the Canada Reads debates with his fellow panelists of this popular Canadian battle of books. As you already know, Chuck is defending the book ‘Homes’ by Syrian author Abu Bakr al Rabeeah and his teacher Winnie Yeung and thanks to Chuck’s very good debating skills, he managed to once again successfully move to the next round, which will unfold tomorrow with Day 3 of Canada Reads, where only 3 panelists defending their chosen books now remain.

During today’s debate, Chuck also received a very nice and positive pep talk from his bandmate and friend Pierre Bouvier, who also mentioned how good Chuck’s debating skills usually are. Check out the whole debate below and if you’re interested in Pierre’s pep talk, head over to mark 32:41. You can also read it in full below:

“Hey Chuck,

this is Pierre. I just wanted to send you a quick message to tell you good luck! We’ve been friends now for most of our lives, playing in a band together for over 25 years.. You are one of the smartest people I know and you are pretty much an unstoppable force, especially when it comes to debating. So go out there, be yourself, know that you’ve got this and go out there and convince the world. And you’re gonna win!”

Watch Chuck successfully defend the book ‘Homes’ on his first day as a panelist on Canada Reads!

Back in February we informed you that this year, Simple Plan’s drummer Chuck Comeau would become one of the five panelists of the annual Canadian book competition Canada Reads, in which each panelists chooses one Canadian book and then has to defend it in a series of debates. After each debate, one book is eliminated until only one book remains. This book is then billed as the book that all of Canada should read and the publisher of the winning book then donates a portion of sales proceeds from it to a charitable organization working in the field of literacy. Chuck will be defending his chosen book ‘Homes’ by Abu Bakr al Rabeeah and Winnie Yeung against the books chosen by his other panelists that include Yanic Truesdale (actor – Gilmore Girls), Lisa Ray (actress, model), Ziya Tong (TV personality) and Joe Zee (fashion stylist).

Ahead of the series of debates, Chuck got to discuss his chosen book ‘Homes’ directly with its authors Abu Bakr al Rabeeah and Winnie Yeung and all of that was captured on the following video. Have a look to get an idea of what the book is about and see Chuck’s view on it through a series of questions and answers in this interesting interview, in which we can see Chuck on the opposite side of the interview chair for once:

Today, Chuck was in Toronto to take part in Day 1 of the official Canada Reads debates, which were streamed live across many platforms this morning local time. Great news is that Chuck’s chosen book ‘Homes’ made it safely past the first day, which means Chuck will keep on defending ‘Homes’ in tomorrow’s debate again. Below, you can check out his debating skills in the replay of the livestream of Day 1 of Canada Reads.

And we’re still not finished with Canada Reads news! One of the promotional videos filmed with the panelists in advance of the big Canada Reads week featured the quintet playing a ‘book jenga’ and answering some interesting literature-related questions. Check out the video below to find out what Chuck’s favorite word in any language, how he would sum up his chosen book in just one word or what the importance of literature is today to him:

Simple Plan performed rare song ‘Vacation’ at Walt Disney World!

Yesterday at the second to last day of performances at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL, Simple Plan surprised the audience at one of the day’s 3 sets by playing one of the fans’ favorites songs – Vacation, which many of you may recall from the Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen movie ‘New York Minute’ (where today’s posts’ header also comes from).

Check out how the boys rocked this classic that they very rarely perform live and that we mostly only heard being played at SP’s soundchecks:

Simple Plan returned to Walt Disney World to perform their first shows of 2019

For the third year in a row, Simple Plan arrived to Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL a few days ago to once again perform as a part of the Garden Rocks festival series. There, the band is scheduled to perform for four consequent days with three short performances each day. Previously, the guys performed there in 2018 as well as in 2017.

As it’s already become the tradition, the members of the band all tagged their families along to not only work but also spend some more time with their loved ones in “The Most Magical Place On Earth”. Unfortunately as expected, David has still not rejoined the band on tour.

Yesterday, March 17th, Simple Plan kicked off this concert series with their first show in 2019 with the first one of the three sets out of which we have acquired two of the band’s setlists. Just like last time, the guys like to change the songs up a little bit for all three performances, so that the attendees of the shows can enjoy a wider variety of their songs. Check out two of the three setlists from yesterday below:

1. Jet Lag
2. Addicted
3. Your Love Is A Lie
4. Grow Up
5. Crazy
6. Summer Paradise

1. Shut Up
2. Can’t Keep My Hands Off You
3. I’d Do Anything
4. Perfect World
5. Welcome to My Life
6. Perfect

During one of the sets, Pierre also apparently took over Chuck’s place behind the drums again and played a little drum solo, which was captured on the following video posted on Seb’s Instagram today. Have a look:

And finally, make sure to check out the gallery for some fresh pictures from some of Day 1 of SP’s Walt Disney World shows this year:

Travis Clark posts a sneak peek of a possible new Simple Plan song

This week, it was time for yet another songwriting session of Pierre and Chuck and their friend Travis Clark from We The Kings, who is pretty much a part of the songwriting team now, given how long he’s been writing with Simple Plan’s lead songwriting duo. We found out about this session through Travis Clark’s Instagram Stories again, which also incidentally revealed another thing…

In the Story, that was later also reposted by Chuck on his own Stories, the drummer can be seen seated in his home studio, rocking out the air drums to a new – very likely Simple Plan – song, while his son London is accompanying him on the piano.

Check out this short video to hear the first little audio sneak peek from the upcoming Simple Plan album. What do you think?
