From personal reasons, regarding the loss of one of their teammembers – Josh Plunkard (✝19) – in a longboarding accident, the magazine Alternative Press decided to raise awareness about the importance of wearing a helmet during the practise of such sports.
The parents of the late Josh Plunkard have set up a fund in his memory, called the “Josh Plunkard Memorial Fund”, through which they are trying to raise money to make sure that people wear helmets when skateboardování and longboarding and most importantly in order to prevent such accidents from happening.
To support this cause, a couple of Josh’s favourite bands have been asked to sign a couple of helmets, which will be put on auction and all the funds will be used to buy more helmets.
The auctions started yesterday (and will be on till June 15th) and the auctioned helmets include signatures from bands like August Burns Red, Simple Plan, Against Me!, Less Than Jake, The Flatliners, Miss May I, Family Force 5, Breathe Carolina, The Wonder Years, Set Your Goals, Fireworks, This Time Next Year and Man Overboard.
