Just like every year for the past 5 years, an interesting charity initiative has been held in Montreal, Quebec – “Sapin des stars” (“Fir of the celebrities”): the Québecor building displayed a Christmas tree from November to December 2013, whose branches were decorated with more than 150 various items that have been donated by local celebrities – such as Céline Dion, René Angélil, and also Simple Plan and Marie-Mai. These items were up for auction and all the raised money will be going to the Maman Dion Foundation, which supports disadvantaged children in schools, and the Père Sablon Foundation, which helps young people to develop – mostly through sports.
Simple Plan’s donation to this cause have been Chuck’s autographed drumsticks used at the show in the Bell Centre (Montreal, QC) on February 23rd 2012 and a picture of the band, signed by all its members. The item (in a package with Marie-Mai’s donation – a signed golden ticket) has eventually been sold for $3000, making it reach the 3rd spot for the items on the list – ahead of them only Celine Dion’s belt and Guy Lafleur’s signed hockey jersey – both being sold for $5000 each.
