If you watched the entire video of Simple Plan performing at the Alternative Press Music Awards a couple weeks ago, you may recall that their performance was presented by two members of the American metalcore band Memphis May Fire. Unfortunately, Kellen McGregor and Matty Mullins from the band had to use the teleprompter with the pre-written script, which also untruly said Simple Plan were on a 4-year hiatus. After the awards, Chuck jokingly mentioned this mishap on Twitter, saying “Simple Plan 4 year hiatus: put out full-length album, tour the world & play over 45 countries, release EP, write and record a new album.” Matty Mullins later replied to Chuck, apologizing for the untrue statement, saying he had to follow the script they were given.
After some more lovely follow-up replies between the two band members, all things turned out good between the bands. In fact, according to a new interview from behind the scenes of the APMAs, one of the members of Memphis May Fire, Jake Garland, is in fact a huge Simple Plan fan. Check out a quote from the interview below, in which the band members discussed their opportunity to present Simple Plan on stage that night:
Interviewer: “So, while I got you guys here… obviously, it’s the award show. We just had Simple Plan in here a little bit ago. You guys got to be a part of the Simple Plan thing tonight… How was that?”
Matty Mullins: “An email got sent to our management a month ago saying that we were announcing them and then we didn’t find out until 10:30 p.m. last night [laughs]. So we had no idea that we were doing that, but we found out last night and we were pumped. And luckily, we didn’t have to say too much. We weren’t there for too long, so it was pretty easy. But that was cool, just to be a part of that. You know, Jake’s a huge Simple Plan fan.”
Jake Garland: “I do. I’m a simple fan. I’m a simple fan of Simple Plan.”
