It looks like Pierre and Chuck really grew fond of We The Kings’ lead singer Travis Clark as their song-writing buddy as they asked him once again to join them for their song-writing sessions that they are currently undergoing in Los Angeles.
This is at least the third time (that we know of) that these three musicians have worked together on some new songs for Simple Plan’s new album – the first time was back in December 2018 and then they also continued writing together in January 2019.
The trio worked on some more songs this week at Chuck’s home studio, which was confirmed by Pierre who posted a new photo of them on his Instagram today [see it in the gallery] and Travis also discussed it in his latest Instagram Story:
“I just got back from one of the better writing sessions I’v ever been a part of with the Simple Plan dudes. Shout out to Pierre and Chuck for being a part of that! And now I’m home with my family!”

Pierre and Chuck are still very busy at their California homes, working tirelessly on new songs for the next Simple Plan album – and they continued working on them this week with a new addition to their already pretty interesting list of collaborators. After first-time co-writers Travis Clark from We The Kings and the ex-member of Neck Deep Fil Thorpe-Evans, Simple Plan’s main songwriting duo now reached out to someone they already had the chance to work with before: Ryan Stewart.
“Had a blast writing and demoing some new tunes with Simple Plan’s Pierre Bouvier & Chuck Comeau this week. These guys are sooooo good, they always up my game.”
– Ryan Stewart –
You may recall Ryan Stewart’s work with Chuck and Pierre on two songs from their last album Taking One For The Team: the fans’ favorites: ‘Perfectly Perfect’ and ‘P.S. I Hate You’. Besides his songwriting with Simple Plan back in 2015, Ryan Stewart can pride himself on his other previous credits that include songs for artists such as Hedley, Carly Rae Jepsen or Bif Naked.

After Pierre took over social media recently with his utter excitement of the current songwriting process, Chuck decided to join him and shared his thoughts on the progress on his own Instagram yesterday. Travis Clark, the lead singer of We The Kings, who joined Simple Plan’s songwriting duo again this week to help with the writing process, then left a comment on Chuck’s Instagram post, letting the fans know that they should get ready for a really “sick record”!
Check out both of the musicians’ posts below:
“Back at it writing songs for album 6! Another great week with the amazing Travis Clark and the equally awesome Pierre Bouvier.
So stoked on what we are coming up with and so grateful I have the opportunity to be creative with such talented people. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Also extremely thankful to all of you for still giving us the chance to make new music after 20 years as a band. I realize more than ever what a privilege that is and I want you all to know that we don’t take it for granted. We’re gonna make an incredible album for you and are pouring our hearts and souls into it. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻”

“Haha it’s insane how great these songs as well as the ones that I didn’t have any part of have come out!!! You guys have a SICK record! Dear fans, get ready.

Now that Simple Plan played their final show of the TOFTT tour cycle and the tour is officially over, the time has come for the members of SP to finally get back home to their families and enjoy some well-deserved time off.
However, in just a couple weeks, Pierre and Chuck will get back to song-writing and while that process usually lasts at least a year, there are some signs that say that might not be the case this time around! And while we want to be cautious about believing that the record will be out “soon”, the guys have been making it very clear for the past couple of months in various interviews, that they do not want to take as long as they once used to to make this album happen.
Yesterday, after returning back home to California, Pierre updated his Instagram Stories with a little update, where he once again confirmed that Simple Plan’s goal is still to release record no. 6 much sooner than the records before – even talking about a “record timing”. Check out what Pierre said below:
‘And then, of course, create some new music. I got my studio back there in the back yard – gonna work on that in the next few weeks and months and hopefully we’ll get you guys a new record in a record timing. We don’t wanna take too long this time. But yeah – next step in life: new album!’
– Pierre Bouvier –
As of right now, it seems that the song-writing sessions could begin in the fall (perhaps September?) and we’ve also already heard that there might be some new music – whether a single or a few songs – ready early next year, but don’t hold on to that information, all of that can still easily change.
Simple Plan also published a farewell-to-their-tour post on their Instagram, in which they reassured their fans that the process of making the album will be well-documented on their social media channels, so we don’t need to be afraid of any silence from their part:
‘This weekend, we played our last show before we start working on new music and a new album. Since the release of TOFTT in early 2016 and continuing with the NPNHJB Anniversary celebrations, we traveled all over the world twice and toured non-stop for almost 3 years in a row. It’s been an amazing adventure and we would like to thank every single fan who came to see us play and made these shows so magical.
Now it’s time to go home, get inspired and come back with new songs for all of you. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 We can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings as we head into 20 years as a band in 2019! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻Don’t worry – we will keep posting and updating you on our progress. Thanks for all the support and see you all very soon!’

As you could have noticed, Simple Plan correctly noted that the band’s 20th anniversary is coming up next year, since the band officially formed in 1999 (back then, still without David), which makes us think that perhaps that might be one of the reasons why Simple Plan want to hurry up the record-making process. Could be expect a 20th anniversary tour? Or some other special 20th anniversary surprise? We shall see!
Stay tuned for more info as Simple Plan get back to song-writing in a few weeks!
In the meantime, let us know: what sort of direction do you expect Simple Plan to go with on their sixth album? What would you like to hear from them?
While on Warped Tour, two members of The Maine (Pat Kirch and Garrett Nickelsen) recently interviewed Sebastien from Simple Plan in the back of their tour bus and band member to band member got him talking about some very interesting music-related topics in their The 8123 Podcast. In the 40 minutes of this interview, Sebastien discussed how Simple Plan got their first big break, how they invented the word “vlog”, described the struggles of putting together a setlist of all their greatest hits and how interesting it is to have certain songs only popular in certain regions.
In this article, we’d like to point out one particular part of the interview, in which Seb talked about the band’s plans for their upcoming 6th album. Originally, Simple Plan mentioned in various interviews that they might start working on it during Warped Tour, but as expected, due to how straining this tour has been and that there isn’t really that much free time between sleeping, traveling, playing and meeting fans, it doesn’t seem to be very likely the guys will start song-writing while on the road anytime soon. The plan now seems to be to start working on album #6 as soon as they’re off the road.
However, there still seems to be plenty of unanswered questions regarding how the process of making of this new Simple Plan record will be conducted. In this interview, Sebastien noted that there are many opinions within the band regarding the producer they could go with and what his approach to the new album should be. According to Seb, the band is ready to try producing music on their own and get a producer for just a few songs. But will that hold with the rest of the band? That remains to be seen. Read Seb’s quote below:
“… and now I think we’re ready to go the way of like: ‘Let’s get a producer for a couple singles and just work out the rest on our own!’ You know? I think we’re ready for that. I don’t know, though. There’s a lot of headbutting in my band, so… Everybody’s got a strong opinion about a lot of things. So there needs to be someone that kinda comes in and sort of calls the shot in the end. And I don’t think it can be one of us. You know… I guess we’ll see. After a couple weeks we’ll know if we need to bring in someone or just keep doing it on our own.“
– Seb Lefebvre –
Another interesting fact we’ve learned from this interview is that the band still considers releasing their album in batches, as first suggested by Chuck in an interview back in April. Sebastien agrees that with how times have changed in the music industry and with platforms such as Spotify being here always available for fans’ instant music needs, it is not necessary for artists to release full albums – instead we can possibly expect just a few new Simple Plan songs perhaps early next year. Check out Seb’s thoughts expressed in the interview below:
Oh, I think we’re gonna start writing as soon as we can. We’re slow. We’re always slow… […] Now we’re two and half years after our last release and we don’t really have songs yet. So hopefully early next year, there’s gonna be… cause it’s a different landscape – we don’t have to wait for full albums. Let’s release a couple songs early next year and once we have like a body of work, we’ll release that! I’m thinking… We’ll see. But that would feel nice, you know? Our fans would be happy, we’d be happy – we’d feel like we’re moving forward… get back on tour, you know?
– Seb Lefebvre –
If you’re interested and have some 40 minutes to spare, we definitely recommmend listening to the whole interview with Sebastien on The 8123 Podcast to get some more insight into the music industry through the eyes of the members of The Maine and Simple Plan:
