Out of all the members of Simple Plan, David Desrosiers has always been the one to shy away from social media and keeping his private life a bit more private. And while we mostly knew about the going-ons of Pierre, Jeff, Seb and Chuck during quarantine, the whereabouts of David have been mostly unknown.
This week however, David started getting more involved with the IG game and updated his fans on many occasions of his recent explorations of nature in Quebec – such as in his hometown Matane or the town of Chandler. On his Instagram Stories, David even included a number of pictures of himself in the nature, which you can now check out in our gallery.
A few weeks ago before they played the first ever show in David’s hometown Matane, Simple Plan were invited to the city’s town hall, where they appeared at a press conference, met the local representatives and received a book about Matane.
In our gallery, you can now check out a bunch of new pictures from Jeff’s, Pierre’s, Seb’s and Chuck’s visit to the town hall in Matane:
For the first time in their career, this past Saturday Simple Plan’s schedule finally led them to the city of Matane, QC – the hometown of the band’s bass player David Desrosiers. And even though David has been looking forward to this show for quite some time, due to his continuing struggles with depression, he wasn’t able to attend it (nor will he attend any of the upcoming U.S. and Canadian shows). For that reason, it was all the more important for Simple Plan to perform a fantastic show for the local crowd – to make David proud.
Earlier in the day, Chuck, Pierre, Jeff and Sebastien were invited to Matane’s city hall, where they all signed the city’s guestbook and also thanked the city officials for taking part in the Municipal Employment Plan, which is supported by the Union of the Quebec municipalities and the Simple Plan Foundation. It urges cities to create jobs for young people from youth centers, who would’ve otherwise had difficult times finding an employment.

A couple hours later, the four members of Simple Plan got on the stage at the Éole en musique festival in Matane, from where they could see the very diverse crowd that came to hear them play. Whether they were longtime fans from Montreal and its surrounding areas or over-40-year-olds in the back rows – thousands of people of all ages gathered to see Simple Plan play their bassplayer’s hometown. And the spiritual presence of David could be felt throughout the whole evening, as the musicians made quite a number of nods to their missing bass player.
Once again (just like in La Tuque), Pierre introduced Welcome To My Life with a very emotional speech regarding David, where he even noted that he was wearing a rose on his t-shirt that day to remind him of David (‘Desrosiers’ means “from the rose bush”). Below, you can watch Pierre’s speech on camera along with an English translation (big thanks to Janie for it):
“Of course.. we are sad that he can’t be here to share this moment with us tonight. If you follow us on social media, you know a bit of the history. If you don’t know it.. David is going through difficult times and it’s very important to him to reestablish himself and to be in a good health in long term, so he had to miss the show tonight. We’re thinking about him, I have my little rose here for “Desrosiers”. Tonight, because it’s his hometown, and because it’s our first time here, I want you to scream very loud for him. I want you to sing with me because we’re thinking about him. We love him so much and because he’s not here, we’ll make you a promise: we promise that we’ll come back to Matane again – with David. So, sing this next song with me. We dedicate it to David. It’s called Welcome To My Life.”

After their show in La Tuque, Simple Plan got back on their tourbus on Friday and drove all the way to Matane, QC, coincidentally the birthtown of David, where they will be performing later today.
The guys ended their day off with a nice group dinner at Restaurant Cargo, which consisted of Pierre, Chuck, SP’s light tech Didier and Jeff with his two daughters, Maya and Zoe.
Check out a couple of group pictures they all shared on Instagram in our gallery:
A press conference about the upcoming Éole en musique festival in Canada was held yesterday and revealed some new information about this three-day event, which is expected to attract about 25 000 people.
More acts have been added to the line-up and it has been announced that Final State will be opening for Simple Plan on August 12th.
According to Radio Canada, the promoters of this festival also revealed some very interesting news regarding the return of David Desrosiers to Simple Plan on this event, which takes place in his hometown – the city of Matane, Quebec. As you know, on May 25th it was announced that due to his struggles with depression, David would not be able to join Simple Plan on their European tour and would take the time to try to get better. At the press conference, the promoters specified the following:
“At the moment, everything indicates that David Desrosiers, bassist of Simple Plan originating from Matane, will be performing on August 12, in spite of health problems, unless stated otherwise.”

If nothing changes, this could mean David’s possible return on stage for the band’s shows in August, which include a number of festivals in Canada and also the whole tour across the United States. On the other hand, no official statement regarding David’s current health situation has been given, so we will have to wait and see what the future brings. We still all wish David all the best and hope he takes as much time as he needs to recover.
