In a brand new interview for The Joel Martin Mastery Podcast, Simple Plan’s guitarist Jeff Stinco opened up about the band’s latest single ‘Nothing Changes’ and, more importantly, gave fans a glimpse into Simple Plan’s future plans regarding new music.
Jeff explained that recording Nothing Changes was a form of therapy for the band and proved that they could still be efficient in the studio without letting perfectionism hold them back and spend months writing a new record (like they’ve always done in the past:
“‘Nothing Changes’ was sort of therapy for us because we had cold feet. We were nervous about getting into the studio again. We didn’t even know if we were functioning enough as a band to get into the studio and make a song quickly enough, because we’re perfectionists to a point where we get paralysis. Allowing ourselves two days to finish a song – to write, record, and mix it in two days – that was liberating!”

According to Jeff, this experience showed them that they don’t need to spend six months obsessing over every detail in order to create music. Most excitingly, he also revealed the band’s concrete plan:
“After The Offspring tour in Europe, we’re taking a break – that’s probably going to be in December. We have until March to make a record. The plan is to get into the studio, write as much as we can, and just get it done. I think it’s definitely possible."

That means if all goes according to plan, Simple Plan could have their new album recorded as early as spring 2026! And with a few months reserved for post-production and promotional planning, the actual release could realistically happen later in 2026. After all, their last album (Harder Than It Looks) already came out three years ago, in 2022.
Let us know in the comment below what you’re looking forward to the most on the next Simple Plan album and make sure to watch the full interview with Jeff we mentioned in this article below:
In a brand new interview with @SimplePlan_Fr, which took place in Lyon, in July, Chuck Comeau discussed multiple important questions that have been rising on the fans’ mind in the past few months: When will the band go back to the studio? Will they stop touring for a few years during that process like they usually do? What else do they have in store for us?
Thanks to our lovely fan Johanna (thank you!), we received a translation of this French interview and can now share with you some interesting facts that have been revealed in it. Let’s see!
25th anniversary of the band Given the fact that Simple Plan started in 1999, it means that this year, in 2024, we are celebrating 25 years since the band’s formation. According to Chuck, there are big plans in works for this anniversary, mostly regarding a special release of all of their albums (including b-sides) on vinyl. This information can now be supported by the recently released this new reel by Simple Plan, where they hinted on some special new vinyl releases. Check out what Chuck stated about their 25th anniversary plans:
“We have lots of beautiful things that are coming for the end of the year and for 2025. It’s going to be the 25th anniversary of the band and the 20th of our second album. So we have nice projects to come, and some of them are going to be announced in the next weeks or months. We are also planning some nice occasions to celebrate everything.
[…] We are going to release everything in vinyl with different colors, and plan a package with unseen things that we have done. It’s going to be cool for old fans and for collectors. We are going to release some limited things that can only be found in the package.”
Back in Europe next year & new music? Firstly, it has already been 2 years since the release of Simple Plan’s 6th studio album, Harder Than It Looks, which has been recorded pre-covid. At the same time, however, it has always felt like a very long time for fans when the band took 2 years off to prepare a new album. This, however, might be changing this time around!
The band agrees that they can’t just disappear for so long, so their goal is to find some balance between touring and making new music. Besides that, Chuck has also revealed that there are (yet undefined) plans to return to Europe in 2025.
“We hope to be back in Europe in 2025, we don’t know yet where, how, with who… but we really want to play shows and tour. We don’t necessarily want to stop for 2–3 years while making a new record.
[…] We are going to try to find a new balance between new songs, album and tour. Maybe we are going to try to do like 1 new song or a few new songs that are going to be released from time to time rather than a full album. We haven’t decided yet, and we are trying to find the best option for us and for the fans.
We are also thinking about what we are capable of releasing. It’s demanding for us to produce an album. We are taking our time because we don’t want to do something less good than what we did before. We want to release something of good quality.”
New documentary Another topic of the interview was the documentary Simple Plan have been trying to put together in the past few months. They have recently asked Brazilian filmmaker Lucas Allegretto to join them on tour and to capture some of the moments. It is believed that he might be the one behind the making of this documentary.
Chuck has shared some more information about what this film should be about and that we should expect it to reveal what it is like to be on tour with them as well as tell the history of the band.
“[The documentary] is about the band’s career from the beginning to where we are now. The crew started to film in January on the European tour, then in Brazil and in Australia. They are also going to be there in the USA and Canada this summer.
It’s going to be about what it is like to be on tour with us. It will feature interviews with different people and artists, we are digging out some old stuff… A little bit like the book but in a form of a movie. We are really excited about this and we can’t wait to release it.”
As of right now, there are no concrete dates of release of any of these new planned projects. However it seems like the vinyls might be the first on the list to be revealed. Let us know if the comments what you think of all these projects and which one you are looking forward to the most!
It’s a happy day in the Simple Plan fandom. After years of waiting, Simple Plan’s sixth studio album will be released on May 6th 2022. The band also finally revealed the title of the album – ‘Harder Than It Looks’ which once again perfectly fits into their history of double entendres in their album title names.
Besides the album title and the release date, Simple Plan also revealed today on their social media the official album artwork, which features all four members of the band in their “fake professions”, previously revealed on social media posts in the past few days. You can check out the full version of the album cover here.
This is Simple Plan’s first official release since 2016, when they released their 5th album ‘Taking One For The Team” (2016) and the first album after the departure of David Desrosiers in 2020.
Read below what Simple Plan said about their upcoming release:
“No more waiting. No more “soon”. The day has finally come! We’re incredibly excited to announce that our sixth album, “Harder Than It Looks”, is coming out on May 6th! 🤘⚡️🤘
We know it has been a long time coming and we want to thank all of you for your patience and support. We’re so stoked to finally be able to share all of this with you.
Starting at midnight local time, you can pre-save/add the new album and to celebrate, we’ll have another special surprise for you so make sure you come back here later tonight! 🎉🎉🎉”
The British magazine RockSound published a new video call interview with Pierre Bouvier from Simple Plan. In the interview, the reporter James Wilson-Taylor talked to Pierre about his band’s recent unexpected success with their past hits such as “What’s New Scooby-Doo?” and “I’m Just A Kid”, as well as Simple Plan’s new single and the upcoming 6th studio album.
When it came to the album (which, by the way, should be coming out in early 2022), Pierre noted that the core fans will be in love with this album, as it is “heavy and rock” and even compared it to one of the band’s most popular releases, the 2004 album “Still Not Getting Any”. Check out what Pierre said below:
“I would say The Antidote is a good indication [about the style of the record]. Obviously, there’s a few songs that are a little different. But mostly I would say this album is very… it’s more rock. It reminds me of like Still Not Getting Any, 2004-ish Simple Plan. I love the sound. […] Really heavy, rock… We have about 2 songs that are more on the pop kind of cross-over side, but everything else is just straight up pop-punk, so I think the fans who are, you know, big fans of Simple Plan will absolutely be stoked to hear this.
In case you missed it on Friday, thanks to our reader Sophie (@sophie_music05) you can now watch the full livestream that Simple Plan recently did on Instagram live on November 5th to celebrate the release of their new single “The Antidote”.
And in case you don’t have extra 35 minutes to watch it all right now, here’s a short recap of any important or interesting information we’ve learned in this livestream:
the guys discusses the behind the scenes of Jeff’s solo in “The Antidote” – turns out it wasn’t just Jeff playing it, but Pierre was controlling the pitch pedal to create the final crazy sound of the solo
there will be a music video for The Antidote, the guys have already chosen a director and are about to figure out the details of when it’s going to be filmed
Chuck confirmed that the music video for The Antidote will feature their actual fans in some way
Simple Plan’s official fanclub the SP Crew is currently under reconstruction, it will be back again: changed, but better
due to covid, soundchecks and VIP parties for the foreseeable future won’t be taking place, but as soon as the situation is better again, the guys want to reinstall these special fan meet-ups with the band too
to some extent, the album will have similar vibes as The Antidote, the songs are mostly classic Simple Plan but with a modern vibe to them
the fans can expect some collabs on the new album – the band is working on them right now
Simple Plan will make it up to their U.S. fans after the canceled tour – they are planning a new U.S. tour hopefully for spring/summer 2022
