UPDATED: First look at Simple Plan’s European tour setlist!

Last night, Simple Plan performed their first show of their long-awaited headlining ‘Hard As Rock Tour’ in Europe, which they kicked off in Paris, France, where they managed to sell out 3 shows in a row at the Bataclan venue.

The Simple Plan concert itself was standard length (about hour and half) and before the fans got to enjoy three opening acts: AIR YEL, State Champs and Mayday Parade. In total, the band performed 21 tracks, which you can check out below:

The setlist should slightly change every night of the tour (especially possibly during the three Paris shows), so we will keep you updated with any major changes. Most of the setlist’s structure should remain the same, so you can prepare yourself for most of these hits at your show!

UPDATE: Simple Plan did indeed switch things up a little bit on the second night in Paris. Instead of Your Love Is A Lie, they played Can’t Keep My Hands Off You and instead of Wake Me Up, the band performed Congratulations. They also added a French version of What’s New Scooby Doo? feat. Kyoshi Sad. This meant that there was no Oasis cover on the second night.

Blame Canada tour 2 week recap: setlist, new party medley & pandemic crowdsurfing

It has already been almost 2 weeks since Simple Plan kicked off their co-headlining ’Blame Canada’ tour across the United States with Sum 41. A lot has happened on the tour so far, so let’s have a little summary of it.

The tour kicked off in Raleigh, NC on April 29th. Since it’s a co-headlining tour, Simple Plan and Sum 41 decided to divide their ‘headlining shows’ evenly and the bands are always taking turns in being the opening act and the headlining act at each show.

Of course, given the fact that both bands have suffered a lot with tour cancelations in the past two years due to the pandemic, many tight security measures have been introduced on this tour, such as regular testing, mask wearing and no strange people allowed backstage. But Simple Plan decided to put a little extra spin on the security & health measures: as a band known for having their drummer Chuck crowdsurf during I’m Just A Kid amongst the crowd, they did not want to just give up on this idea because of the pandemic. Instead, the idea came to them to use the extra protective measures as a punchline and dress Chuck up in a full yellow hazmat suit and a mask before surfing the crowd and later on spraying him with as much disinfectant as possible by their tour manager Danny. This, of course, makes it a rather funny moment for all the fans in the crowd and so far everyone’s been enjoying it immensely.

You can check out a video of Chuck jumping into the crowd below:

Unfortunately, despite the tightest measures, things just don’t seem to always work out. After just 4 played shows, both bands found out during the afternoon before the Silver Spring, MD show that a member of the Sum 41 crew tested positive for COVID-19, making it impossible for Sum 41 to perform. That night, Simple Plan performed the show alone and fans who came to mostly see Sum 41 were offered refunds. Given this mishap, the bands had to make the very hard decision to postpone the shows in Worcester, Ausbury Park and New York City for later August dates, since Sum 41 would not be able to perform there. This incident was all the more disappointing for Simple Plan given that on May 6th their new album ‘Harder Than It Looks’ came out and they were supposed to have a big release day show in New York City, which the band has look forward to very much.

The tour eventually picked up on May 10th in Detroit and the two bands have been having a blast ever since.

As far as the setlist goes, the band actually seems to be switching things up a little bit at each show, so no setlist is completely the same every night. Usually, the band offers about 18 songs during the night (with the exception of the Silver Spring show, where they played without Sum 41 and where they decided to play 21 songs to make it up to the fans a little bit more, even including a Sum 41 cover of ‘In Too Deep’). From the new album, the band usually plays about 3 songs.

One new things they introduced in the Blame Canada setlist is a brand new party medley, which they perform in the second half of the show. The medley includes parts of ‘All Star’ by Smash Mouth, ‘Sk8er Boi’ by Avril Lavigne & ‘Mr. Brightside’ by The Killers. Check out the medley below:

Pierre dedicated ‘Welcome To My Life’ to David in La Tuque

Simple Plan kicked off their North American tour last night in La Tuque with a fantastic show at the Jeudis Centre-Ville festival for over 8000 people. The show was the first show in a while that the band performed together and therefore needed quite a long soundcheck to make sure everything sounded just the way it should. Some fans even got to witness the soundcheck, which was about an hour long.

As this show was not a part of the No Pads tour, Simple Plan performed what seems to be one of the variations of the Taking One For The Team tour setlists and even though it was a festival, Simple Plan had 1.5 hours at their disposal to prove themselves to the local crowd, so they opted for the longer setlist – however they did no play the party medley.

David’s absence was of course very visible – the empty microphone stand that was left on David’s usual spot was a dead giveaway that someone was missing tonight. Many fans even came to the show with banners saying “We love you, David”, supporting their favorite band’s bassplayer from afar. Interestingly enough, Chady Awad (who we’ve counted on to play David’s bass just like he did on the European tour) wasn’t present to take over David’s bass for this show, instead we’ve been told the band used a pre-recorded track to keep the show going with some bass tunes. Besides that, Simple Plan’s guitar tech Chris also apparently helped out with some bass sidestage during Grow Up.

Before Welcome To My Life, Pierre took the time to adress the absence of their friend David on stage and decided to dedicate this song to him. You can check out Simple Plan performing a part of Welcome To My Life in La Tuque on the video below:

And finally, check out some of the first pictures of Simple Plan back on stage – last night in La Tuque:

VIDEO: The Bottom Line & Ghost Town back on SP stage in Utrecht

Simple Plan finished their mainland European dates last night with the show in Utrecht, in Netherlands, which was quite the spectacle. Apparently once again, the opening bands The Bottom Line and Ghost Town got on the stage during the party medley and rocked out with Simple Plan – this time with clothes on. Check it out on the video below:

‘Can’t Feel My Face’ cover added to party medley in Barcelona

Simple Plan’s final show in Spain on this first European tour for TOFTT took place in Barcelona at the Sant Jordi Club. From the pictures you’ll be able to see in the gallery you’ll see that Pierre decided to express his support to his own band by wearing Simple Plan’s new t-shirt, which you’ll be able to purchase at the merch stand. Regarding the setlist, the boys rotated the new songs again and played ‘Nostalgic’ instead of ‘Farewell’ and also finally added the ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ cover [originally by The Weeknd] to their party medley (alongside ‘Uptown Funk’). See the whole party medley on video here:
