Back in Prague: Simple Plan rock at Aerodrome Festival

Simple Plan kept their promise and only a year since their last show in Prague, they returned to the Czech Republic yesterday. This time around, however, it was a return to a completely different experience – a festival for 25 000 people.

Earlier this year it was announced that Simple Plan would be joining Linkin Park for this year’s edition of the Aerodrome Festival. Besides these two major acts, other bands such as Enter Shikari, Machine Gun Kelly, Royal Republic, Counterfeit and Mallory Knox were set to perform at this event as well. Unfortunately just a few minutes after the gates to the festival opened up for all the fans, it was announced that Mallory Knox would not be performing due to a car accident in Germany (fortunately the band is ok).

Simple Plan arrived on the festival grounds in the early afternoon as this was their only stop on this European tour, where they had to take a plane from their previous location (Download festival in United Kingdom the night before, so taking the tourbus was not an option). After their arrival, it was time for them to do a meet&greet with a number of lucky contest winners and then also do a couple of interviews. SimplePlan.cz was there, of course, so you can already start looking forward to another interview with our already established interview duo – Seb and Chuck. Besides the interview, I also helped Pierre learned a couple of Czech phrases that he very accurately used throughout the whole show to loud cheers from the audience. Click on the picture on the right to check out Pierre’s own spelling of these phrases.

Simple Plan kicked off their 1-hour set at 7:30pm. All four band members (and Chady stepping in for David) jumped on stage and started their fourth show in Prague with their festival setlist of this tour. Check out all the songs Simple Plan played at Aerodrome below:

1. I’d Do Anything
2. Jet Lag
3. Jump
4. Your Love Is A Lie
5. Welcome To My Life
6. Boom
7. Can’t Keep My Hands Off You
8. Summer Paradise
9. Addicted
10. Grow Up
11. I’m Just A Kid
12. Crazy
13. Shut Up
14. Perfect

Simple Plan’s classic audience-engaging performance that featured lots of arm-waving, singing and jumping (sometimes by a band member right into the crowd) managed to break even some of the most hardcore Linkin Park fans and many were singing along to the popular tunes that this setlist was filled with. It was just a shame their set didn’t start a little bit later in the evening, when dark would start setting in, as the show’s atmosphere could have been even greater if the light show was a bit more visible.

Big thanks goes to the promoters of the festival for making it happen, to the band’s crew for all their work, all the fans for coming even though this wasn’t a headlining show and last but not least Simple Plan, of course, for coming back and possibly turning some more people into Simple Plan fans.

Speaking of fans – huge shout-out to those of you who came up to me to ask for their own SimplePlan.cz pin! You guys are the best – thank you so much for all your support! I posted most of your pictures with your new pins on the SimplePlan.cz Instagram (and they’ll be featured on Facebook soon too), so check them out!

And finally – besides the interview, SimplePlan.cz also had access to the photo pit, where I had the opportunity to take some pictures of Simple Plan during their set. Check them out in the gallery:

SimplePlan.cz recap of London show: basketball, passed-out fans & crazy atmosphere

On Friday night, Simple Plan returned to the O2 Forum in Kentish Town, London, where they had another unforgettable No Pads show ahead of them. This time around SimplePlan.cz was there again to bring you some more in-depth info straight from the crowd.

The audience was very diverse: people from countries like Canada, Ireland, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Austria, Italy, Netherlands, Japan, China, Slovakia or Czech Republic all came to London to witness this very special 15th anniversary show.

And it was quite an eventful night! The first time that the members of the general public were able to see a member of SP on stage, actually came much sooner than anybody expected! During The Bottom Line‘s set, this opening band decided to invite Pierre to take part in their new on-stage game they started on this tour in Germany, when a member of the audience is chosen to shoot a ball through a basketball hoop held up in the middle of the audience. It took him 2 shots, but finally Pierre scored with loud cheers from the audience accompanying his victory.

See it all on the video SimplePlan.cz filmed for you below:

After The Bottom Line’s set, two more opening bands took the stage: Milestones and Trashboat. Around 9pm the stage was all clear again, ready for the best part of the night to begin.

From the first notes of I’d Do Anything all the way to the final song Welcome To My Life, the London crowd very actively engaged in the show, holding up signs (note the quite impressive lit up sign on the right!), jumping, singing along and trying to get various items of ladies’ underwear thrown on stage.

Big props should go to the middle section of the crowd which right after the beginning of Boom made sure to call security in order to help a girl who’s passed out of exhaustion and made sure there was enough room around her. The band immediately stopped playing and patiently waited a number of minutes to make sure the girl was carried out safely. See tiny parts of this moments caught on our Instagram Stories:

David’s absence on this tour was once again explained during the show when Pierre took the microphone to discuss the issue of depression that their bassplayer is fighting right now. See his speech in the video below:

The recent attacks in the United Kingdom resonated in Pierre’s speech in the middle of Crazy more than ever and everybody in the crowd loudly joined in the ‘Is everybody going crazy?’ sing-alongs while Pierre stood on top of the front of house area.

It looks like it’s confirmed now that Jet Lag has become a full-time addition to the NPNHJB show setlist. The band played the same songs as they did in Tilburg:

1. I’d Do Anything
2. The Worst Day Ever
3. You Don’t Mean Anything
4. I’m Just A Kid
5. When I’m With You
6. Meet You There
7. Addicted
8. My Alien
9. God Must Hate Me
10. I Won’t Be There
11. One Day
12. Grow Up
13. Perfect

Encore:
14. Shut Up!
15. Jump
16. Boom
17. Your Love Is A Lie
18. Jet Lag (English version)
19. Summer Paradise
20. Crazy
21. Welcome To My Life

Broken snares, fans on stage and more info from Tilburg

Thanks to our loyal readers, who are travelling through Europe, seeing Simple Plan at various shows, I got some more details from last night’s show in Tilburg, Netherlands for you!

It looks like the band decided to fully include Jet Lag on their setlist from now on, as for the first time on this tour (if we don’t count the festivals) SP performed the English version of this song! Previously, we’ve seen Simple Plan add this song in its French version in French speaking territories as a last minute addition or not included on the setlist at all. Whether Jet Lag stays on the setlist for the remaining shows is still yet to be seen.

The show was another great spectacle for everyone who attended it. Whether it was because of the overall atmosphere, active show attendees, or the many interesting moments during the show – Simple Plan definitely made Netherland’s first 15th anniversary No Pads show quite memorable. And what interesting moments were they, you ask? For example, Chuck actually managed to brake a snare on his drumset (hardest hitting drummer, indeed!) and during the show, some more fans were invited on stage to take a group photo with the band. Definitely very memorable for everyone.

Simple Plan light up Paris with a stunning performance at Bataclan

For the first time since the 2015 terrorist attacks, Simple Plan performed at the Bataclan venue in Paris, France last night. Due to the venue’s history, it was obviously a very emotional night for the band and the fans alike. But Simple Plan made sure that everybody had a smile on their face during the entire the show and Chuck even spoke to the crowd during Grow Up and reminded everyone that this evening was a very special evening for the band and asked the fans to have fun like never before. And so they did!

One of the greatest moments for some of the fans was definitely when Simple Plan pulled up a number of people on stage to take a picture with the band.

The band once again decided to make the setlist a bit more interesting for the French crowd by adding the French version of Jet Lag on it. As you can tell from the picture of the setlist (sent in by Yva), Jet Lag was a last minute addition:

1. I’d Do Anything
2. The Worst Day Ever
3. You Don’t Mean Anything
4. I’m Just A Kid
5. When I’m With You
6. Meet You There
7. Addicted
8. My Alien
9. God Must Hate Me
10. I Won’t Be There
11. One Day
12. Grow Up
13. Perfect

Encore:
14. Shut Up!
15. Jump
16. Boom
17. Your Love Is A Lie
18. Jet Lag (French version)
19. Summer Paradise
20. Crazy
21. Welcome To My Life

And as always, the gallery is open to you to look through some of the first pictures from this sold-out Simple Plan show in Paris. Enjoy:
