Patrick’s newly-found old camera reveals never-seen-before photos from the recording of Simple Plan’s second album!

Ever since the release of Simple Plan’s biography ‘Simple Plan: The Official Story’, it has become a widely known fact that Chuck’s parents’ house holds a rather extraordinary amount of Simple Plan memorabilia. And all those year later, it can still manage to reveal something new every now and then – just like we’ve learned just a few days ago when Patrick Langlois, Simple Plan’s former merch guy and photo/videographer, revealed some amazing newly found photos on his Instagram.

Turns out that an old camera was recently found by Chuck’s Dad is their basement, which obviously belonged to Patrick. After getting his hands on this treasure, he found out there was still a film inside: a film that had a number of pictures of the gang from the summer of 2004, when Simple Plan were recording Still Not Getting Any at the Picolo Studios in Montreal with Bob Rock.

Check out Patrick’s retelling of how this treasure was found and what was on it below and definitely make sure to check out the never-seen-before shots of the band in our gallery:

“A couple weeks ago, Chuck found an old camera in his parents basement. He wasn’t sure, but he believed it might be mine. I can’t tell you how happy I was to put my hands on what I thought was a long lost camera. It’s the most old school Canon, bought in the 70’s and gifted to me by my step-mom in the 90’s. It’s the first real camera I ever used, learnt how to shoot with and develop film in school with. When Simple Plan first started, and before digital cameras were everywhere, I had it with me.

Fast forward to 2019: I took the camera Chuck found and brought it to the shop to see if it needed a cleaning when, to my surprise, they found a roll still in it! With NO idea what might be on it, I had it developed. I didn’t have high hopes, as we opened up the camera and surely ruined a few frames, but it was exciting none the less. As you can tell by these shots, the film didn’t age too well all those years- that green tint isn’t a filter. These pictures were taken during summer 2004 at Picolo Studio in Montreal as the guys recorded their second album, “Still Not Getting Any” with Bob Rock. We used to have BBQ’s every week and it seems like that’s the last time I had the camera in my hands. 15 years ago! These pics aren’t good by any photography standards, but I think that it’s great that they even exist!”

11 years since the release of Simple Plan’s self-titled album

Today marks exactly 11 years since Simple Plan released their third, eponymous record ‘Simple Plan’, on which the band brought us a number of deeply personal songs as well as many international chart-toppers.

While initially struggling with a writer’s block during the process of creating this 2008 classic, Pierre and Chuck eventually managed to dig deep inside their own personal experience and came up with the 11 songs that became the record we now know as ‘Simple Plan’. These personal experience can be heard in the lyrics of songs such as ‘Your Love Is A Lie’ (Chuck’s story about how he got cheated on by his former girlfriend), ‘Save You’ (Pierre’s recollection of his feelings of desperation when his younger brother went through cancer) or ‘I Can Wait Forever’ (song about Pierre’s love for his then girlfriend now wife Lachelle).

Interestingly enough, alongside ‘Still Not Getting Any’, ‘Simple Plan’ is the only other album by Simple Plan that does not feature any special guests on any of the songs – that is if we don’t count Chuck Comeau, who made his rap/spoken word debut on the song ‘Holding On’.

From the start even until now, this Simple Plan album has sparked many debates amongst the fans, some seeing a major departure from the band’s previous music efforts with the album’s more electronic and alternative style and lack of pop-punk songs, while others saw this as an interesting and mature creative choice from Simple Plan, while still keeping the core Simple Plan style present.

But the music style wasn’t the only thing that made the fans argue. Prior to its release, the band revealed the album art, which featured the band members emerging from the ruins of a city destroyed by fire. This interesting choice of an album cover made many fans on MySpace (the social network the band primarily used in that time to communicate with their fans) express their (often) negative opinions, which eventually made the band second-guess this choice and decided to let the fans choose the album art on their own by offering a second, less controversial, black&white option, which the fans eventually went with.

Tell us, 11 years on, how do you find the self-titled album in the context of all of Simple Plan’s discography? Do some of your favorite songs appear on this album? What does this album mean to you? Let us know in the comments below!

Chuck and Pierre tell the story of being kicked out of the studio when making their debut album

L’Anecdote is a YouTube series by the music website Punkanormal Activity, in which musicians or other various people from the music industry reveal a short music-related story that’s worth telling.

In the latest episode, Pierre and Chuck from Simple Plan were featured retelling the now infamous story of how the the five of them were kicked out of the studio by their producer Arnold Lanni, when recording their first album No Pads, No Helmets… Just Balls, after they did something he expressly forbade them to do. As a bonus, the guys then added another story of how they then dealt with the situation in a way by which they were repromanded for again – this time by their own management.
