Thanks to the recent TikTok live session with Simple Plan and Papa Roach, we were already able to hear a sneak peek of the live version of the brand new Simple Plan song “The Antidote”.
Now, the full song is coming out next week on November 5th, but until then you can enjoy at least a preview of the studio version of “The Antidote” track thanks to the new TikTok video that Pierre uploaded on Simple Plan’s TikTok channel.
Last night, Simple Plan and Papa Roach hosted a TikTok Live, where in the pre-recorded session, the two bands (Simple Plan represented by Pierre on stage and Chuck fangirling in the crowd), performed a few songs from each of the bands’ catalogues. We will delve into the content of the entire stream in our next post, but in this one we want to highlight the main surprise of the stream and that is the first preview of the brand new Simple Plan song “The Antidote”, which is coming out on November 5th.
Pierre decided to treat the fans listening in by singing one verse and the entire chorus of “The Antidote” live. And if you missed it, thanks to our reader Lora who managed to capture it on video, you can now listen to it too. Not to mention you can also already sing along. Under the video you can find the lyrics of the already revealed preview of the song:
Caught up in a life that I wish I could erase I wanna disappear, wanna leave without a trace I’m looking in the mirror but I can’t see through the pain So I take another pill and I hope it goes away
Cause my broken pieces Don’t fit in
Everytime I feel alone Like the walls are caving in, Like I never win, Like it’s crawling under my skin You’re the antidote And even when it hurts the most And I’m trying to find a way But there’s no escape Like a poison feel in my veins You’re the antidote You’re the antidote You’re the antidote
In the stream, Jacoby Shaddix from Papa Roach asked Pierre what inspired the song. This is what Pierre said about the song’s meaning:
“We were just thinking about how, sometimes our fans talk to us through the years and saying how much music means so much to them and you realize how much people struggle with different things in life. And when you find something – for some of our fans it’s been our music, for some people it’s like finding a relationship, finding someone you love, finding something that can help you get through, you know.. that becomes your antidote. So the song’s about just having a really hard time. You know, for me I think about my wife and kids and that’s my antidote, that’s what makes it all make sense!

After years of teasing the 6th album, a follow-up to their last studio effort from 2016 (Taking One For The Team), that has been in works for quite some time now, Simple Plan are finally ready to let go of their favorite word “soon”. Today, the band shocked their fans with a surprise announcement of a release date of new music – November 5th 2021, which they revealed alongside a new artwork.
The artwork is assumed to hint on either the song title or the new album title. It features what looks like a spilled-out prescription bottle, but instead of pills, it contains tiny little hearts.
The artist, who’s behind the new artwork is merch designer Vinicius Gut from Brazil. He himself has said about this collaboration: “I can say that I’m working with one of the most important bands of my life.”
As of right now, it is unclear whether the release date is for en entire album or a lone single, but one thing is absolutely clear right now: 6 years of waiting are over and you can mark your calendars for sure now – get ready for November 5th, as it will be a blast!

It took over a year and a half, dozens of canceled shows and lots of nerves but finally, after all that the covid pandemic has brought, Simple Plan were finally able to once again step on the stage for the first time in forever – at Riot Fest in Chicago, IL yesterday, September 19th 2021.
Many fans have been wondering how come Simple Plan have canceled their appearance at the Pop Punk’s Still Not Dead tour with New Found Glory, yet they still decided to go ahead and perform at such a huge festival. The answer is simple – the danger of any of the crew contracting COVID-19 (and therefore endangering the cancelation of more dates) is way smaller at one outdoor festival than it would have been at a month-long tour, where they would have likely interacted with a lot more people in much smaller and enclosed spaces for a much longer time.
But let’s get going with the Riot Fest recap, yeah? The band kicked off their set at 5:30pm local Chicago time and what did the setlist looked like:
1. I’d Do Anything
2. Shut Up!
3. Jump
4. Addicted
5. Boom!
6. Your Love Is A Lie
7. Welcome To My Life
8. Jet Lag
9. Can’t Keep My Hands Off You
10. Crazy
11. Where I Belong
12. What’s New Scooby Doo?
13. I’m Just A Kid
14. Perfect
And do we have any first-hand scoops from the show? Of course we do! Our long-time reader May was there and she let us know that Pierre mentioned on the stage that the band will be releasing “new stuff in a few weeks” – turning the band’s “soon” into something slightly more concrete and less vague. According to May, Pierre did not specify whether that meant new song or new album, but we can definitely count on the word “music”.
In our gallery you can finally have a look at some of the first photos posted on Simple Plan’s official accounts from their appearance at Riot Fest:
And finally, get a glimpse at what being at a Simple Plan show in 2021 is like and check out this video capturing the band performing I’m Just A Kid at Riot Fest yesterday. Enjoy:
