Sebastien disscussed David’s short visit to the SP show in Montreal on Man Of The Hour

Ever since May 2017, it has become a public knowledge that for the past couple of years, Simple Plan’s bassists David Desrosiers has been struggling with depression and in order to make himself get better, he has decided to take an indefinite hiatus from touring with the band and has been missing on tours ever since April. On Friday it was also revealed that he won’t be attending the upcoming shows in Japan, Hawaii and the Warped Rewind At Sea cruise either.

Out of respect to the band and most importantly to David himself, not many journalists have asked the band members in recent interviews about the bassist’s absence and his current well-being. On the most recent episode of the Man Of The Hour radio show (which you can download as a podcast on iTunes – 2nd episode of season 24), Patrick Langlois noticed this and since him and the whole band have been friends for a very long time, decided to ask Sebastien himself how David’s doing.

In his response, Sebastien revealed that David had in fact dropped by the recent Simple Plan show in Montreal, Canada in September and the band members got to talk to him a little bit face to face after a while, to check up on how he’s doing.

You can read the transcript of Sebastien’s whole answer and what he had to say about David’s current health situation below:

“Well, there’s not a lot more to say than what has been publicly said in the sense that he is going through a tough time and he is doing everything that he can to get better and right now and that just means for him a lot of rest. You know, just staying home, staying away from being stressed out and all that, making sure he gets on a regular schedule and all that. And that’s what’s been publicly said.

Of course, but, funny enough, we played Montreal a couple weeks ago and he actually came out before the show around soundcheck time to say hi and see how everything was going. And he was in good spirits, although still struggling, he’s not ready to come back on tour as we all know, tour life is not an optimal getting better situation with the traveling and all that – the crazy weird schedules. And that’s exactly what he doesn’t need right now to get better. He was just basically coming to say: ‘Thanks guys, I hear everything’s going great, I hear the shows are great. Thank you for being so supportive’ – which we are, we just want him to get better and if he wants to get better as well, he WILL get better. You know, he knows he will, we know he will. So there was nothing but good things to be said about seeing him the other day.

I think he was very happy to come in and say hi to everyone. Because obviously, Montreal, our hometown show, he wishes he could be on stage with us, you know? You know, we always have a great time, Montreal is a crazy city, it was probably the loudest show of the tour, honestly. Loud AF! And yeah, through the darkness, he still knows he’s gonna get better, he knows he’s gonna come back and you know, he’s going through the tough times right now to make sure he’s fine to finally get back on tour and play in front of everyone again!”

Seb promotes new season of Man Of The Hour on Gone Fishkin podcast

Earlier this week, Sebastien Lefebvre appeared on the Gone Fishkin podcast on Idobi Radio, in order to promote season 24 of his and Patrick Langlois’ podcast Man Of The Hour.

In the interview, Sebastien revealed his love for the song ‘Promise’ on SNGA, mentioned that he is currently trying to get some new ideas for the upcoming Simple Plan record in his home studio as well as working on another artist’s music, as he often does. And as expected, he also went into depth about his podcast Man Of The Hour, which is in fact returning tomorrow at 8pm EST.

Check out the full interview with Seb on Gone Fishkin below. It starts around mark 46:08:

Seb reveals how Rancid supported Simple Plan in their beginnings

In their 18 years long history, Simple Plan have never been the most loved band in the world and they have always had their haters and people who picked up on them wherever they went. It was especially hard in the early 2000s, when Simple Plan were just starting out and trying to expand their audiences. One of the best ways how to find new fans was to attend festivals and festival tours, such as the widely known Warped Tour in America, featuring many bands from all sorts of genres of the alternative scene, which helped Simple Plan confront a more diverse audience. This topic was recently brought up on the latest released podcast of last week’s Man Of The Hour show, where Sebastien and Patrick played the American punk rock band Rancid and after that, Seb reminisced a bit about his relationship with this legendary band.

Sebastien told a short story about how even though many Warped Tour attendees despised Simple Plan for being there back in 2003, the members of Rancid stood up to them and proudly showed their love for Simple Plan during their very own set. Check out Seb’s story below:

“Rancid are great. They’re great as ever. […] My favorite thing about Rancid is that they truly don’t give a fuck. And you know what I’m talking about. Cause there was a time when Simple Plan’s career was coming up [and] some people just didn’t think we were very cool. Yeah, a lot of people were like: ‘Simple Plan are ‘meh’… they shouldn’t be on Warped Tour.. they shouldn’t be this, they shouldn’t be that, they’re not this, they’re not that.’ blah blah blah. We didn’t really care, cause we kept doing our music and we had a lot of fans in front of us. And that’s the people we usually care about. Rancid was the kind of band that would show up on Warped Tour in front of their mohawk frenzied pissed off dudes.. and would wear Simple Plan t-shirts. And that was just amazing, you know?

And we played recently together in Austria, at Nova Rock festival and they just came up to us and said ‘Hey, guys, good to see you! How’s everybody?’ […]”
