Simple Plan featured on ‘Hockey Wives’

Last night at 10pm EST, episode 4 of the show Hockey Wives, which is a Canadian documentary series that follows the wives and girlfriends of professional hockey players, aired on the W Network channel.

This episode partially revolved around Maripier Morin, who is a Canadian TV personality, currently engaged to the Canadian hockey player Brandon Prust. You may recall Maripier not only from previously co-hosting a TV show with Patrick Langlois, but most importantly for a cameo appearance in Simple Plan’s music video for ‘I Don’t Wanna Go To Bed’, where she played a drowning girl that Pierre tries to save by giving her mouth-to-mouth.

And it was this music video that was prominently featured in this episode of Hockey Wives. The viewers not only had the chance to see some exclusive behind the scenes footage from the filming of this music video, but also find out some interesting tidbits from the personal lives of both Maripier Morin and Simple Plan. According to this article which recaps the episode, Maripier Morin mentioned on the show that she had actually dated Chuck Comeau from Simple Plan many years ago. It was apparently Maripier was the one to broke off the relationship, stating: “I was not nice when I was young. I broke a couple hearts.” Luckily both of them are currently happy in their own relationships.

Clips from this episode of ‘Hockey Wives’ are currently unavailable.

Ghost Town: “Simple Plan are really inspiring!”

One of the opening bands on the first leg of the European Simple Plan tour, Ghost Town, recently did an interview with Radio Cardiff, while stopping in Bristol last Sunday. In this interview Alix and Kevin from Ghost Town talked about what it’s like to tour with Simple Plan and how they see them as a band:

Kevin: “A lot of our peers and bands that we’ve toured with or that we look up to in our scene have been doing this for three times longer than us. They’ve been a band three times longer than us.”
Alix: “Yeah, they are the bands that we’ve looked up to… and then we’re going on tour with them. So it’s kind of unreal..”
Kevin: “It’s pretty insane.”
Alix: “Like Simple Plan!”
Kevin: “Yeah! And like Simple Plan for example.. They are crazy. They’ve been a band for 16 years and we’re barely scratching the surface of 3 years. And we have a hell of a long way to go. But it’s very inspiring to see their live show every night, to see their die-hard fans and just them as people. And half of them have amazing families, and it’s just really inspiring as a musician to see like – what a career could become, you know? You know, like, where it can land.

The interviewer also mentioned the funny video Ghost Town did with Simple Plan 2 months before the tour started, where they promised to start a prank war. Alix and Kevin then explained most pranking was eventually done between the two opening acts – Ghost Town and The Bottom Line, but also mentioned the prank they did on Simple Plan when they jumped on their stage for the first time in France.

Alix: “You know, funny enough, when we went on this tour, we thought it was just gonna be us and Simple Plan. But now we have our buddies The Bottom Line, who are a part of the tour now and I’d say the prank war kinda transfered from Simple Plan to us and The Bottom Line. And they are a great bunch of dudes, we have a really awesome time.”
Kevin: “We did pull a good prank on Simple Plan in France.”
Alix: “Yeah, we were in Strassbourg.”
Kevin: “Yeah. And they sell these like speedos that say Simple Plan on them.. Anyway, we all put them on and towels, and then that’s all we had. Shirtless, we went on stage, during one part of their set and at the same time we all ripped our towels off and started dancing on stage. It was pretty pup-punk of us to do actually.”

Release day promo recap

February 19th was quite possibly the bussiest day for Simple Plan this year and for a good reason – the band finally dropped their long-awaited record “Taking One For The Team” and the boys had a lot of promo to do!

Before this busy day, the guys attended the Toronto Maple Leafs game, after which they had to get up early to do a whole lot of interviews with various TV and radio stations. Before that though, it was important for some of the members like Chuck and Jeff to go and pick up the physical copy of their new album [see the picture on the right].

Regarding the interviews – you can have a look at the BT Toronto interview with Jeff and Seb over here, but I’d rather recommend the much funnier and interesting interview with Sirius XM 167, where the guys for example talk about which collaboration in their career was the weirdest – and it’s not what you’d might think!

For the whole day, Simple Plan took over Alternative Press‘ Instagram, which fed us some gorgeous pictures throughout the whole day and allowed us to follow Simple Plan on their album’s release day – you can already see some of the pictures here. And speaking of Alternative Press, the APTV correspondent Nick Major released his long-awaited and very well-done interview with Pierre and Chuck yesterday, which I definitely recommend you to check out below:

During the day, Simple Plan also answered a lot of fan questions on their Twitter page via short videos and in the evening they attended the taping of CBC Music First Play, which will soon be available on YouTube (I will let you know). There, the band performed a short setlist that was a mix of some of their old stuff together with new tracks from TOFTT. See for yourself below:

1. Opinion Overload
2. Welcome To My Life
3. Kiss Me Like Nobody’s Watching
4. Boom
5. I Don’t Wanna Go To Bed
6. Summer Paradise
7. Farewell
8. I’d Do Anything

In the gallery you can already check out the pictures from the past day (or two), of Simple Plan doing promos and playing at CBC Music:

And finally, the boys ended the day with their Coalition and Warner team in Toronto, celebrating the release of their newest “baby”, an album that took two years to make but so far has received an incredible amount of positive reviews [but more on that later]. Check out the video below:
