Main Event VIP upgrade: What is the new fan experience at Simple Plan concerts like?

On the Australian tour in April, Simple Plan introduced a brand new type of a VIP upgrade at their shows called the ‘Main Event’. Similarly to the already established Post-Game (‘Pizza Party’), fans can enhance their experience at a Simple Plan show by purchasing this upgrade, which gives them a chance to meet the members of the band and various other little perks.

As of right now, Simple Plan seem to be offering four types of ‘fan experiences’ during the day of the show on their tour: Soundcheck Party (takes place before the show, exclusive to SP Crew members only), Pre-Game (takes place before the show, must be purchased extra), Main Event (takes place right before the show and during it, must be purchased extra) and Post-Game (takes place after the show, also must be purchased extra, also known as ‘Pizza Party’). And since the Soundcheck and Pizza parties have already been established on the past few tours, let’s have a look at the new addition to the available fan experiences: the Main Event, which will also be available on the upcoming Simple Plan tour in South America!

Sally from Australia got back to us on social media when we were looking for any attendees of the Main Event on the recent tour and thanks to her, we can now check out what the Main Event, which promises the fans to be able to watch the show from side-stage, is actually all about and how was it compared to the other fan experiences that SP offer.

Check out this exclusive look at Main Event in Sydney from the words of its attendee Sally:

When I arrived at the venue, I checked in at the box office and was given a meet & greet backstage pass. The instructions that were emailed to me said to meet Chady at the sound desk at 8pm (after the opening acts). There I met up with the other Main Event participants – 10 of us all together. We waited, keeping an eye out for Chady but it ended up being Danny, the tour manager, that came to find us. He took us backstage and explained that we needed to respect that this was their space and we needed to stay inside the designated area side-stage.

Jeff, Seb and Chuck before the show, getting ready to walk up on stage in Sydney.

He then went to make sure the guys were ready to meet us. We went in and were greeted with hugs and high fives. We spent about 10 minutes chatting and taking photos before we made our way to the stage. We went on first and waited. The lights went down, the show started. I think this was an amazing place to view the show from – bonus being that we didn’t get squashed in the mosh pit. [We just needed to] be careful of the cords and things running around where we were and also needed to stay out of Chris’ way as we were right next to all of Seb’s guitars. So you can imagine he was busy working to make sure all that stuff ran smoothly.

Sally’s view from side-stage as a Main Event attendee.

[The group photo on stage] happened between I think Summer Paradise and Crazy. The photo looks like a much bigger group than what it actually is, because the guys pulled some people up out of the crowd for it as well.

After the show we waited on stage for Danny to come get us. He took us backstage again and gave us our t-shirt, signed setlist and guitar picks. Then he showed us back to the main floor area.

I think it was worth the money. It was a lot more intimate group than at soundcheck or at the pizza party, so there was more time for each person.”

– Sally (Australian fan of Simple Plan) –

Since the upcoming South American No Pads tour will be the last proper headlining tour Simple Plan have planned for the rest of the year with only Warped Tour and some festival appearances until they start working on a new record, Main Event will be available only on the upcoming dates in Brazil this year.

Some VIP upgrades are already sold-out on certain upcoming shows – so make sure to secure your upgrade ticket while you can! Post-Game is still available in Buenos Aires, Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Rio de Janeiro and Uberlandia. Main Event is still available only in Porto Alegre and Curitiba. If you’d like to upgrade your ticket to a VIP experience on the South American tour, visit this website, where you can find out more about the Main Event ($195), Pre-Game ($145) and Post-Game ($145).

Big recap of Simple Plan’s Australian tour

Over the past week, Simple Plan have been taking Australia by storm, playing six shows in five cities: Gold Coast, Brisbane, Melbourne, Newcastle and Sydney. Melbourne was the only city that got to experience Simple Plan twice during this tour as due to enormous demand, the fans managed to immediately sell out the first announced show, making Simple Plan to add a second show, which got sold out soon after. Another sold out show of this tour was Sydney.

Many fans gathered to witness this special once-in-a-lifetime 15th anniversary No Pads, No Helmets… Just Balls tour and they were in for some great shows. For this tour, after Real Friends had to cancel their appearance on this tour, Simple Plan chose the Australian bands Eat Your Heart Out and Stateside as supporting acts.

Simple Plan’s setlist was very reliable as every night the band decided not to change any of their songs and delivered this classic version of their No Pads setlist:

1. I’d Do Anything
2. The Worst Day Ever
3. You Don’t Mean Anything
4. I’m Just A Kid
5. When I’m With You
6. Meet You There
7. Addicted
8. My Alien
9. God Must Hate Me
10. I Won’t Be There
11. One Day
12. Grow Up
13. Perfect

Encore:
14. Shut Up!
15. Jump
16. Boom
17. Jet Lag
18. Summer Paradise
19. Crazy
20. Welcome To My Life

There was one surprise, however, when on a couple of dates on this tour, Simple Plan invited Erin Reus, the lead singer of Stateside to join them as the female vocals in Jet Lag. This way, Erin has become another woman on the list of singers, who have over the years collaborated on this song. You can check out her appearance on stage in Melbourne below:

The guys had an amazing time in Australia and expressed many times over the past few days that they’ve had some of their favorite shows there. After the final show in Sydney, Simple Plan of course didn’t forget to take the final farewell group picture of themselves with the opening bands and the crew. Check it out below:
