Simple Plan release new version of ‘I’m Just A Kid’ feat. LØLØ

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of their first album ‘No Pads, No Helmets… Just Balls’ (2002), Simple Plan decided to release a special new version of their first ever single ‘I’m Just A Kid’ with the Canadian singer/song-writer LØLØ.

Despite being a 20-year old hit, Simple Plan’s ‘I’m Just A Kid’ reached a brand new audience during the pandemic, when it has become a viral TikTok challenge of people all over the world retaking their childhood photos with their adult selves. The trend now has over 3.5 million videos including clips from celebrities such as Ed Sheeran, Usher, Drew Barrymore or Venus and Serena Williams.

The brand new version of ‘I’m Just A Kid’ features LØLØ singing on the second verse as well as the chorus and is available exclusively on Amazon Music.

Check out the full version below:

LØLØ, born Lauren Mandel (24 years old) has stated that Simple Plan have in fact been one of her idols growing up:

“It’s not every day that one of your favorite bands of all time asks you to feature on arguably one of the most iconic songs of your generation. If you would have told 7-year-old me that one day I would be singing this song WITH SIMPLE PLAN, instead of in my basement alone, I would have probably dropped dead on the spot. Working with the guys on this version of “I’m Just a Kid” and getting to sing it with them on stage at So What Fest has definitely been one of the coolest experiences of my life. P.S. I’m still convinced this isn’t actually real and I’m being punked.””

And what has Simple Plan said about this new collaboration?

“Now more than ever, we appreciate the gift of having songs that resonate with people of all ages and backgrounds and become an important part of their lives. I’m Just A Kid has been one of these special songs for us and we’re so grateful for everyone who has listened to it and enjoyed it over the years. It has become a signature song for our band, especially after the craziness of the TikTok challenge and the billions of plays that came with it. As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the song release, we thought it would be fun to give our fans a new updated version of the song with our friend LØLØ. We always loved collaborating with young artists that keep pop-punk fresh and exciting and it’s rad to be able to use our platform to showcase their talent. This is what our scene is all about. We hope you enjoy this new version and can’t wait to see you on tour all over the world!”

‘Summer Paradise’ certified silver in the UK

One of Simple Plan’s biggest hits to date – their summer bop ‘Summer Paradise’ has recently reached another important honor. The song’s version featuring Sean Paul has been certified silver in the United Kingdom.

According to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), the song was issued the Brit Certified Silver Award on August 12th after it sold over 200 000 units in the UK, as measured by The Official Charts Company.

Besides this certification, Summer Paradise is also certified 3x platinum in Canada (240 000 units), 2x platinum in Australia (140 000 units), and 1x platinum in Italy and Switzerland, after selling 30 000 units each.

Originally the song was first released on the album Get Your Heart On in 2011 featuring K’Naan, however once the time has come for the band to release the song as a single, it unfortunately collided with K’Naan’s own releases and because of that his version could not be the one to become a single. Simple Plan however trusted the song had big potential and asked rapper Sean Paul to be featured on the song instead and even appear in its music video. The single was released on February 27th 2012 and the music video came out on March 30th 2012, soon to become SP’s biggest music video to date – as of writing this article, the video has over 137 million views on YouTube.

Simple Plan back on tour in the U.S.: check out the new setlist feat. a cover of ‘Wonderwall’

After a little summer break, Simple Plan are back on the Blame Canada co-headlining tour with Sum 41 in the U.S., which will continue until August 28th. This time around, the boys are hitting mostly cities on the western coast with the exception of the final three dates, which will take place in New York and New Jersey to make up for the canceled shows from the first leg of this tour (which were then canceled due to positive covid tests in the Sum 41 camp).

As far as the setlist of the show goes, it mostly remained very similar to the one Simple Plan had on the first leg of the tour. Of course, every night, the guys like to switch up a couple of songs to make the shows always a little different. But the main structure of the setlist remains the same. The band also still incorporates a cover “party medley” in the middle of the show, where they cover Smash Mouth’s ‘All Star’, Avril Lavigne’s ‘Sk8er Boi’ and The Killers’ ‘Mr. Brightside’. Besides these cover, there is one extra cover that Simple Plan has played at most of the recent shows toward the end of the show right before ‘Untitled’ or ‘Perfect’ – and that is the cover of Oasis’ legendary song ‘Wonderwall’.

Check out the setlist of the most recent show in San Diego (August 5th):

  1. I’d Do Anything
  2. Shut Up!
  3. Jump
  4. The Worst Day Ever
  5. Addicted
  6. Wake Me Up (When This Nightmare’s Over)
  7. Summer Paradise
  8. Welcome To My Life
  9. Take My Hand
  10. Crazy
  11. Iconic
  12. Party medley (All Star / Sk8er Boi / Mr. Brightside)
  13. What’s New Scooby-Doo?
  14. Where I Belong
  15. I’m Just A Kid
  16. Wonderwall (Oasis cover)
  17. Perfect

The song ‘What’s New, Scooby-Doo?’ finally gets an official lyric video

20 years after the first release of the animated TV series ‘What’s New, Scooby-Doo?’ which featured an intro song of the same name by Simple Plan, ‘What’s New, Scooby-Doo?’ finally got to have it’s own official lyrics video, which you can now stream on YouTube.

The video, edited by Brent Hallman (Tivoli Films Inc./Hallman Animation Studios) includes the original animated members of Simple Plan from the episode ‘Simple Plan and the Invisible Madman’ (where the SP members also voiced their own characters).

Listen to Simple Plan’s new song ‘Iconic’ used in a new LCS Spring Finals teaser video

Another track from Simple Plan’s new album ‘Harder Than It Looks’ (coming out next week, May 6th) is out – in a way. The song ‘Iconic’ has been used a couple days ago by the League Championship Series (LCS) YouTube channel, in a teaser video for the LCS Spring Finals.

It seems that the organization has the rights to use the song and even listed it in the credits of the video.

The song is played nearly in full in the video and definitely fits well with the eports vibe – very energetic and epic. One could even say… iconic.

Given the fact that the video consists also of short spoken parts by the players, we cannot hear the song in full in certain points, but we can definitely hear enough to enjoy the music.
