Have a look at the footage from the first part of the Simple Plan/Sum 41 tour in the U.S.

A couple weeks ago, Simple Plan and Sum 41 finished the first half of their ‘Blame Canada’ tour across the United States and they are currently taking some time off and performing at a few Canadian festivals in June and July before returning back on the tour with Sum 41 at the end of July to finish off their big U.S. tour.

The SP boys published a new video documenting their first few weeks of the tour. If you’re seeing Simple Plan and Sum 41 in the U.S. or even in Europe in the fall, make sure to check out the video below to get a glimpse of the tour ahead of time:

Simple Plan finally return to Disney World: Pierre shares the stage with his daughter

Before the pandemic has swept the world off its feet, Simple Plan were supposed to continue with their annual tradition of performing for 4 days in a row at the Garden Rocks concert series at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, as they have done for many previous years. However due to covid, they had to postpone this performance but finally this year, 2 years later, they got to return to the happiest place on Earth, alongside their families.

The band had 3 sets to perform every day from June 3rd to June 6th, so attendees could have technically witnessed 12 Simple Plan shows (for free!) in a course of just 4 days. Because many fans actually stayed for multiple of these sets during the day, the boys decided to switch things up and perform a slightly different set each time. All sets were 7 songs long.

Below, you can have a look at what the three setlists for the final day (June 6th) looked like:

Set #1:

  1. I’d Do Anything
  2. Jet Lag
  3. Boom!
  4. Congratulations
  5. Party medley (All Star / Sk8er Boi / Mr. Brightside)
  6. What’s New Scooby-Doo?
  7. Welcome To My Life

Set #2:

  1. Shut Up!
  2. Jump
  3. When I’m Gone
  4. Wake Me Up (When This Nightmare’s Over)
  5. Can’t Keep My Hands Off You
  6. Crazy
  7. I’m Just A Kid

Set #3:

  1. Addicted
  2. The Worst Day Ever
  3. Astronaut
  4. Iconic
  5. Party medley (All Star / Sk8er Boi / Mr. Brightside)
  6. Where I Belong
  7. Perfect

During the time Simple Plan spent at Walt Disney World, a bunch of people celebrated their birthdays, one being Sebastien Lefebvre, who (of course) got a happy birthday from his bandmates there and another person being Pierre’s youngest daughter Soren, who turned 9 years old. Her Dad decided to make her birthday even more special by having her join him on stage during Jump. Check out the cute moment on the video below (thanks to @lor1319):

Blame Canada tour 2 week recap: setlist, new party medley & pandemic crowdsurfing

It has already been almost 2 weeks since Simple Plan kicked off their co-headlining ’Blame Canada’ tour across the United States with Sum 41. A lot has happened on the tour so far, so let’s have a little summary of it.

The tour kicked off in Raleigh, NC on April 29th. Since it’s a co-headlining tour, Simple Plan and Sum 41 decided to divide their ‘headlining shows’ evenly and the bands are always taking turns in being the opening act and the headlining act at each show.

Of course, given the fact that both bands have suffered a lot with tour cancelations in the past two years due to the pandemic, many tight security measures have been introduced on this tour, such as regular testing, mask wearing and no strange people allowed backstage. But Simple Plan decided to put a little extra spin on the security & health measures: as a band known for having their drummer Chuck crowdsurf during I’m Just A Kid amongst the crowd, they did not want to just give up on this idea because of the pandemic. Instead, the idea came to them to use the extra protective measures as a punchline and dress Chuck up in a full yellow hazmat suit and a mask before surfing the crowd and later on spraying him with as much disinfectant as possible by their tour manager Danny. This, of course, makes it a rather funny moment for all the fans in the crowd and so far everyone’s been enjoying it immensely.

You can check out a video of Chuck jumping into the crowd below:

Unfortunately, despite the tightest measures, things just don’t seem to always work out. After just 4 played shows, both bands found out during the afternoon before the Silver Spring, MD show that a member of the Sum 41 crew tested positive for COVID-19, making it impossible for Sum 41 to perform. That night, Simple Plan performed the show alone and fans who came to mostly see Sum 41 were offered refunds. Given this mishap, the bands had to make the very hard decision to postpone the shows in Worcester, Ausbury Park and New York City for later August dates, since Sum 41 would not be able to perform there. This incident was all the more disappointing for Simple Plan given that on May 6th their new album ‘Harder Than It Looks’ came out and they were supposed to have a big release day show in New York City, which the band has look forward to very much.

The tour eventually picked up on May 10th in Detroit and the two bands have been having a blast ever since.

As far as the setlist goes, the band actually seems to be switching things up a little bit at each show, so no setlist is completely the same every night. Usually, the band offers about 18 songs during the night (with the exception of the Silver Spring show, where they played without Sum 41 and where they decided to play 21 songs to make it up to the fans a little bit more, even including a Sum 41 cover of ‘In Too Deep’). From the new album, the band usually plays about 3 songs.

One new things they introduced in the Blame Canada setlist is a brand new party medley, which they perform in the second half of the show. The medley includes parts of ‘All Star’ by Smash Mouth, ‘Sk8er Boi’ by Avril Lavigne & ‘Mr. Brightside’ by The Killers. Check out the medley below:

Below you can find the most recent setlist we could find – for the May 10th show in Detroit:

Listen to Simple Plan’s new song ‘Iconic’ used in a new LCS Spring Finals teaser video

Another track from Simple Plan’s new album ‘Harder Than It Looks’ (coming out next week, May 6th) is out – in a way. The song ‘Iconic’ has been used a couple days ago by the League Championship Series (LCS) YouTube channel, in a teaser video for the LCS Spring Finals.

It seems that the organization has the rights to use the song and even listed it in the credits of the video.

The song is played nearly in full in the video and definitely fits well with the eports vibe – very energetic and epic. One could even say… iconic.

Given the fact that the video consists also of short spoken parts by the players, we cannot hear the song in full in certain points, but we can definitely hear enough to enjoy the music.

Simple Plan premiere the ‘Wake Me Up (When This Nightmare’s Over) music video in support of Ukraine

Simple Plan’s brand new music video for the song ‘Wake Me Up (When This Nightmare’s Over)’ premiered today on Simple Plan’s YouTube channel. The video, directed by Jensen Noen, features Ukrainian cast and crew and its concept depicts the Ukrainian fight for freedom and democracy in their current war against Russian oppression.

Read below what the band had to say about making this video:

“When we saw the first images from the war in Ukraine, we felt so heartbroken and powerless. The impact on young children and families felt especially devastating and made us want to do something to help. The idea to do this video was sparked by discussions with our good friend and Ukrainian filmaker Jensen Noen. We could feel just how important and personal the events in Ukraine were for him and from there, the concept for the video emerged. It was very special to see all these talented Ukrainian actors, actresses, and crew members come together for this cause and create such a moving and emotional music video. We always believed in the power of music and we hope this video can have a positive impact and raise as much money as possible for the people of Ukraine.”

All proceeds from the views of this video will be donated to UNICEF to help the children of Ukraine. Please, watch the full music video for ‘Wake Me Up (When This Nightmare’s Over)’ below and make sure to share it everywhere:

Besides the Ukrainian-themed music video, the band decided to go a bit further in their efforts to spread the word about the current refugee crisis and the war in Ukraine and released a special limited edition t-shirt, which is now available in Simple Plan’s official merch store. All the proceeds from the sale of this t-shirt will go to UNICEF in support of Ukrainian refugees.
