2 years since the release of Taking One For The Team!

Time flies so fast – it feels like yesterday when we were welcoming Simple Plan’s latest album on its release day, February 19th 2016 – but today ‘Taking One For The Team’ already celebrates its second anniversary!

This album came out after months of writing, recording and post-production – and even second recording sessions, which many fans recall as the “pop-punk sessions”, when Simple Plan went back to studio in November 2015 to add a bit more rock and pop-punk to the already finished record. That is where tracks like ‘Farewell’, ‘Opinion Overload’ or ‘Nostalgic’ were created.

Similarly to their fourth album, Simple Plan once again featured various interesting vocalists on this record, who were supposed to give the record a little bit of a different feel. Rapper Nelly laid some guest vocals on the song ‘I Don’t Wanna Go To Bed’, musical duo Rock City then appeared on ‘Singing In The Rain’, while the voice of Jordan Pundik from New Found Glory can be heard on ‘Farewell’ and the only female artist – Juliet Simms – sang beautifully on the final track – ‘I Dream About You’.

As far as singles are concerned, Simple Plan chose to go with some of their more poppier tracks on the album. At first, they went with ‘I Don’t Wanna Go To Bed’ (feat. Nelly) as their first single from TOFTT, which was later followed by ‘Singing In The Rain’ and ‘Perfectly Perfect’. Besides these tracks, the song ‘Opinion Overload’ also got its own accompanying video despite the fact that it has not been named a single and therefore wasn’t put on radio play.

Looking back, how do you feel about Simple Plan’s last studio effort? Which songs are your favorite? And would you like for the band to head a similar direction with their next record?

10 years since the release of Simple Plan’s self-titled album

It was exactly on February 12th 2008 when Simple Plan’s third studio album officially hit the record stores all over the world. The band’s fans have been extremely patient for this album – after all, it was released 4 whole years after the band’s previous, very successful ‘Still Not Getting Any’. But today, we are already celebrating 10 years since its release.

For this album, simply called ‘Simple Plan’ but more commonly referred to as their ‘self-titled album’, Pierre and Chuck began writing songs over two years prior to its release however due to their writer’s block, it was a very long and strenuous process. One of the main reasons why the guys were having so much troubles writing songs for this album was Pierre’s personal struggles concerning his brother, who has been going through cancer at that time. Pierre eventually opened up about his feelings regarding this situation in the song ‘Save You’ that has since struck a chord with many fans.

As far as the singles concerns, Simple Plan chose to have three major singles from this album: ‘When I’m Gone’, ‘Your Love Is A Lie’ and ‘Save You’.

Now, it isn’t very likely that we would be getting a 10th anniversary tour of this album, but it’s surely important to celebrate the anniversary of this important album in Simple Plan’s career somehow anyways. Remind yourselves of the “making of” this album, which was featured on the deluxe version of this record, below:

Tell us, 10 years later – how do you find the self-titled album in the context of all of Simple Plan’s discography? Do some of your favorite songs appear on this album? What does this album mean to you? Let us know in the comments below!

5 years since the release of Simple Plan: The Official Story

Exactly five years ago on this day, November 22nd 2012, Simple Plan released the English version of their first official biography, entitled Simple Plan: The Official Story. The book, originally talked about as the “photo book” features over 300 pages dedicated to the history of Simple Plan from their early begginings in other bands all the way up to the release and the subsequent tour with their fourth record, Get Your Heart On! Penned by Kathleen Lavoie, the biography has been released in two languages: English and French with 10% of the profits going to the Simple Plan Foundation.

Besides the history, fans were also able to find some never-seen-before photos in this book, alongside pictures and scans of various memorabilia, such as early setlists, letters to labels from Chuck (pretending to be the band’s manager in order to help the band get signed) and also interviews the members of the band and various people that have helped them get where they are over the years.

If you’d like to learn more about the process of creating this special biography, check out our section Simple Plan: The Official Story. And if you still don’t have the book and would like to get some insight into what you can expect from it – without spoilers – here is the SimplePlan.cz review of the book!

How do you find this book 5 years on? Do you think the band should write a sequel to it in 5 years? Let us know in the comments below!

13 years since the release of ‘Still Not Getting Any’

The same year we’re celebrating 15 years since the release of Simple Plan’s debut album, we also celebrate another great anniversary: 13 years since the release of their second studio record – ‘Still Not Getting Any’, which came out on this day, October 26th 2004!

Still Not Getting Any has made a very significant mark in the lives of both the band and its fans. It brought us hits such as ‘Shut Up’, ‘Jump’ or ‘Welcome To My Life’, which we can still hear everytime we see Simple Plan live, as they are almost never missing from any setlist. On this record, Simple Plan proved that they are more than capable of writing and recording a fantastically successful studio album in just 6 months – and all that with the help of the producer Bob Rock.

To remind ourselves of this day a bit more, we went into the depths of the Internet again to find the band’s official message to fans on the release date of ‘Still Not Getting Any’ 13 years ago. Check it out below:

“Today is one of the most important day of our lives. Our new album is coming out and we all want to take this opportunity to thank YOU for making all of this possible. We spent the last 6 months working everyday on those new songs, from writing to recording to playing shows, to rehearshing…Today, “Still Not Geting Any…” is finally seeing the light of day and it’s hard to describe just how excited, happy and anxious we all feel.

It’s an honor and a blessing to even get the chance to record another album but to have so many people care about it, to have so many people waiting for it, is simply surreal. We know how many of you check out this very website everyday and it is a privilege to count you as fans. Thank you for checking the site every day, thank you for coming to our shows, thank you for representing SP and wearing our shirts, thank you for checking out our new record!

Most of all, thank you for caring about our band and our music! We poured our hearts and soul into making this album and today is the day you get to hear the result. We truly hope you will enjoy our new songs and that this new record will be everything you’ve been expecting. Once again, thanks for all your amazing support.”

SimplePlan.cz celebrates 10 years online!

Today marks 10 years since the official opening of SimplePlan.cz to the public view and the beginning of its continuous delivery of Simple Plan news to fans worldwide.

10 years. 10 YEARS! A decade! I mean, a ten-year-old, that’s already a pretty big kid, right? All the more when it’s a 10-year-old who literally grew up online. And I’d say we’ve all raised it quite well.

After a year and half in the blog-sphere practice stage (2005 – 2007), that some of you might still recall, I finally opened SimplePlan.cz on August 13th 2007 as a full-fledged website, available in two separate languages (English and Czech). And 10 years on, it is still here, sprawn across all the social media you can think of and with 10 years of experience and overall Simple Plan-knowledge on its back.

Websites come and go. Sadly, we’ve had to say goodbye to a lot of great Simple Plan fansites over the years, but somehow, the dedication of the Simple Plan fans and their eagerness to know more about their favorite band and to help contribute to their online support, has helped SimplePlan.cz to stay on the scene and help spread the good word about this Canadian band we all here love. As of right now, SimplePlan.cz is the longest continuously-running Simple Plan fansite in the band’s history. You know, no line-up changes, no breaks and all that (… it’s as if I heard all that somewhere before… :))

I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every single person who has supported this website, sent in tips, photos, videos or helped out with the translations over the past 10 years – your help has always been extremely appreciated. I’ve always believed that when fans get together, their united strength can create something wonderful – and you helped me prove that right. And I can’t forget all the SP.cz pin-wearers, who’ve just been tremendous in spreading the word about this website just by wearing a pin! The pin project started a little over a year ago and we’re already on our second batch of pins. Can’t wait to hand out more of these little badges to more of you in the upcoming months!

But of course, none of this would ever be possible without the incredible support of the members of Simple Plan. Chuck, Jeff, Pierre, David and Seb – you guys are my rock. Not only your acknowledgments, but also your own continuous no-stopping attitude give me the strength to move forward. Thank you for your kindness, your talks and your never-lasting willingness to answer my (sometimes annoying) questions. I love you guys very much. It’s been a pleasure to support you online for all those years and I will be proud to continue to do so in the future. Very big thanks also goes specifically to Sim, Fred and the whole Coalition team for all their support of the website – thanks so much for everything.

Here’s to another 10 years!

P.S. Today, we are celebrating this anniversary with another SP fans meet-up in Prague! Make sure to follow our Instagram Stories to see what we’re up to with the local fans :)
