David pays respect to Green Day in celebration of 25 years since ‘Dookie’

On February 1st 2019, many music fans turned to social media to pay their homage to one of the most important punk rock albums: Green Day’s ‘Dookie’, which was released exactly 25 years ago that day.

Not long after his last Instagram post, David Desrosiers reappeared on social media yesterday again, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of one of his favorite albums with a very heartfelt post, in which he explained his history with Green Day and how much they have managed to change his life and help his realize his true calling.

Check out what David wrote below:

“25 years ago today this record was about to change my life (and lots of other people’s) and made me realize that all I wanted to do was to play music and sing. Billie Joe Armstrong is the reason why I started singing in my bedroom when I was 13/14 years old.

At that time I was playing guitar and singing in a band that used to cover Green Day’s songs with my high school buddies playing a few shows during lunch break and stuff. I eventually joined Reset and then did a few weeks on the vans warped tour and guess who was one of the headliners on that tour in 2000.

Getting to see them play every day was a dream come true. And then after the first SP record was released we jumped on the Pop Disaster tour as the opening act for a couple weeks. Again it was unreal to be able to see them kill it every night. And I even got to hang with Billie and I straight up told him he was the reason why I sing today and he was such a gentleman. Fast forward a few years later and we were the support band on their Australian American Idiot tour. It was insane and just another dream coming true for me and I felt like was 14 all over again.

Music can keep you young that’s for sure! Of course I had to listen to it earlier today! And so did my neighbours…;-) thank you Tre Cool, Mike Dirnt and Billie Joe Armstrong for being so inspiring for many generations and still counting 25 years later!”

Pierre and Chuck resume songwriting with Travis Clark & Pierre reveals more about new album’s style and lyrical content

Over the past week, Pierre and Chuck have been secretly working on some more new songs with the help of their friend Travis Clark (the lead singer of We The Kings), who they had previously co-written with back in December of last year.

From the Instagram Stories published by both Pierre and Travis, we’ve learned that the three songwriters co-wrote again at Chuck’s house, where the new picture of them and the result of their song-writting session was at least one new “killer song”, written yesterday.

Besides talking about the songwriting collaboration with Travis, in his series of Instagram Stories taken on his way back home, Pierre revealed the results from the poll he ran a couple days ago, when he asked the fans to tell him which style of songs they would like to hear on the next record. Turns out the fans’ opinions were very diverse, confirming to Pierre and his band that their decision to go with multiple styles (pop-punk, pop and ballads) is the right way to go. Pierre also mentioned that as far as lyrical content goes, there’s a number of themes they are touching with the new songs, with some important messages they would like to pass on.

Check out everything Pierre said in his review of the songwriting process so far below and also don’t forget to watch the Instagram Stories we put together which also include shots by Travis from behind the scenes of this songwriting session at Chuck’s house:

“Hey what’s up, friends!

I just wanted to touch base after our last conversation we had together – I am currently now on the way back home after writing with Chuck and Travis from We The Kings. And we wrote a killer song! I can’t wait for you guys to hear it.

So yeah, I just wanted to thank you everyone out there who wrote back and sent me direct messages, responding to my question, which was what kind of songs do you wanna hear on the next record, what kind of style do you like. Well, the results are in! And shockingly, a large majority of our fanbase out there has requested fo us to go in a more country direction. I’m shocked! I mean, I dig it – more slack guitars, more twang… it’s gonna be awesome! Can’t wait.

Naaah, I’m just kidding! No, the responses were great, I had so many different opinions, which just kinda confirmed that we should just keep doing what we do, which is having a lot of diversity on the record. Yeah, so I thought it was really cool that most people out there really wanna see that diversity. You know, the pop-punk songs, the fast aggressive songs and then some of the more mid-tempo-y cool pop stuff and then the heartfelt slow songs.

So that’s what we’re doing: we’re doing all kinds of cool songs and so far I have to say I’m really excited about the new material, I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again. Great stuff, such cool songs, really cool themes.. I think the fans are gonna love it.

And I think the lyrical content we have so far is really strong, I think the message that we have is really heartfelt and really important in a lot of ways, so yeah, it’s gonna be a great Simple Plan record. You guys are gonna love it!

So anyways, just wanted to say thank you for everyone out there who wrote back and gave me their feedback, I thought it was really cool to hear from you guys, to see the different opinions, and yeah, I’m looking forward to finishing this record up and getting it out to you as soon as possible! Talk soon!

“New record is going to be phenomenal!” – Pierre dishes on songwriting progress & asks fans for their input

Simple Plan are currently in the process of writing songs for their upcoming 6th album and as it turns out – the results so far are incredibly promising – to use Pierre’s own words: phenomenal!

Today, while heading over to Chuck’s house for yet another songwriting session, Simple Plan’s lead singer Pierre Bouvier decided to record a couple of Instagram Stories, in which he shared how excited he was about his and Chuck’s progress with the songs so far.

But that was not all! Pierre also took this opportunity to ask YOU – the fans, how they felt about Simple Plan music and what types of songs they would be most excited to hear on the new album.

Check out exactly what Pierre said in his stories below and also make sure to message him on Instagram with your own opinion. As you can see, we already did:

“Hey, what’s up Insta-friends!

I’m on my way right now to Chuck’s house to go work on some more songs. But I just wanted to give you an update: everything is going so well – the new record is going to be phenomenal! Phe-no-me-nal!

I just finished up a couple of demos over the last few days… and seriously – I am psyched! There’s like 4, 5 songs that I think might be the best we’ve ever written. Fans are gonna love it, people that don’t know us are gonna love it, toddlers, grandparents, people of all races from all over the world are gonna love this record, I’m telling you. It’s really good. So, we need a few more songs, going in there today at Chuck’s house and we’re gonna rock out some more. Yeah, baby!

But I’m also kinda curious to know from you guys, from the fans out there: What do you look for to the most on this next record? And let me be more specific: I mean, do you prefer fast, punky stuff – sort of like Thank You or Time To Say Goodbye, or like Farewell type? Or do you prefer more mid-tempo-y stuff like Welcome To My Life, I’m Just A Kid, or like Jet Lag? Or do you prefer the slower, more emo, emotional stuff like Perfect or This Song Saved My Life or what else, like Save You.. What’s your favorite? Or not what’s your favorite but more like what style speaks to you the most when we make our albums, cause you know, our albums have all kinds of different styles. So yeah, or maybe you prefer the more modern approach to pop-punk that I feel is like Boom, or more poppy stuff like Summer Paradise? Tell me what you like! Send me a message! I wanna hear it.

Oh yeah and there’s also another style that my friend Dominika reminded me: like I Refuse, the darker stuff. Like Me Against The World, I Refuse and Last One Standing. Do you like that better? Or do you like all of it? What’s up?”

David reappears on social media after a year to express his excitement over next SP album

After almost exactly a year, Simple Plan’s bassist David Desrosiers, who’s been absent on tour for over 2 years now, focusing on his mental health at home in the meantime, reappeared on Instagram yesterday to wish his fans a happy new year.

Besides that, David also confirmed the band’s statement from a few months ago, that he will indeed be joining the rest of his bandmates in the process of creating the next Simple Plan album and he’s already looking forward to the result.

We’re certainly very excited to see David confirm this himself.

Check out what David wrote from his hometown Matane, in Quebec, where he spent his New Year’s, below:

Happy new year to y’all! May all your dreams come true in 2019… Nothing like spending time by the sea in my hometown to reconnect and recharge… Looking forward to a new album…

Jeff admits he starts to miss his bandmates after holiday break

Before the works on the next Simple Plan album begin in a few weeks and before the band hits the road again in March, the members of SP took some well-deserved time off in the first two months of 2018 to relax and get their strength back. And where exactly did they go on vacation, you ask? Chuck and his wife Jacquelin headed off to Maldives on holiday, Pierre decided to divide his time with his family between snowboarding in the mountains and spending time at the beach, while Seb rested in Costa Rica and David and Jeff mostly spent their time at home with their loved ones.

Jeff however also did some remodeling on his new house recently, which he moved into over the holiday break. But after all the work he’s done and the time he’s had to relax, he found out he actually began to quite miss his friends from the band, which he revealed yesterday in his latest Instagram post:

I’m starting to miss these guys a tiny, itty-bitty bit. Not too much, just a little…but I’ve been home enough to start missing them now ;-) I almost saw Seb this morning; I missed him ‘cause I was on my way to Ottawa to pick up this rare guitar amplifier (I told you I was a nerd). I hope he invites himself over for coffee again. Don’t worry, I miss David too: he’s not in the picture ‘cause it was taken right before the Warped at Sea tour. He was resting. We signed this guitar for friends of Billy Siegle from Fender – I should have kept it instead of shipping it, it’s a killer color ;-) Talking about David – he still hasn’t seen my new dig: I need to invite him.

You can check out the full picture he talked about in his post in our gallery.

Jeff won’t have to miss the boys for much longer though – the first concert of the year will take place in just a few weeks at the Walt Disney World in Florida, where Simple Plan will be staying for 3 days – playing three sets each day and a month later they will finally be hitting Australia and New Zealand with their No Pads tour. There’s definitely lots to look forward to!
