On Tuesday, May 17th, Simple Plan returned to the capital city of Italy, Rome, to play in a smaller-sized venue called Orion, which is located on the outskirts of the city, in the Ciampino area. The show was close to selling out and eventually around 1000 people showed up to witness one of the best shows of the tour so far [both according to the band and even their opening bands].
Due to Chuck, Sebastien and Jeff being in the center of Rome still doing press and so on in the afternoon before the show, the soundcheck party [with the highest attendance on this tour yet – over 100 people] didn’t happen as planned and the fanclub members were greeted only by Pierre and David, who obviously didn’t do an actual soundcheck with their bandmates missing, but still took their time to hang out with every fan in the attendance. The rest of the band severely apologized for this inconvenience on Twitter.
Both opening bands – The Bottom Line and ROAM – received quite the welcome from the fans in the attendance, most of them already wearing their merch and singing along to their songs. One could already tell that the atmosphere of that night at Orion was going to be very vibrant and very sweaty.
Simple Plan finally took the stage around 9:30pm and kicked off their set with the already established opener ‘Opinion Overload’. The band’s performance throughout the night was accompanied by very loud sing-alongs from the crowd, which burst into chanting “Sim-ple-Plan” about four times during different parts of the whole show, sometimes stopping the band to play and just stare in astonishment. Check out the video of one moment like that during ‘Crazy’, which might give you a clue on what the atmosphere was like [big thanks to Sonia for the video]:
During the party medley, Simple Plan were once again joined on stage by the members of The Bottom Line [and also a number of Simple Plan’s crew members] dressed again very thematically – this time around as Roman gladiators. You’ll be able to check out some shots from that moment in the gallery.
Regarding the setlist, the band decided to go back to their previous setlist and Me Against The World is gone again, opening its spot for the good old Perfect World. The full setlist of the show looked like this:
