Seb reveals how Rancid supported Simple Plan in their beginnings

In their 18 years long history, Simple Plan have never been the most loved band in the world and they have always had their haters and people who picked up on them wherever they went. It was especially hard in the early 2000s, when Simple Plan were just starting out and trying to expand their audiences. One of the best ways how to find new fans was to attend festivals and festival tours, such as the widely known Warped Tour in America, featuring many bands from all sorts of genres of the alternative scene, which helped Simple Plan confront a more diverse audience. This topic was recently brought up on the latest released podcast of last week’s Man Of The Hour show, where Sebastien and Patrick played the American punk rock band Rancid and after that, Seb reminisced a bit about his relationship with this legendary band.

Sebastien told a short story about how even though many Warped Tour attendees despised Simple Plan for being there back in 2003, the members of Rancid stood up to them and proudly showed their love for Simple Plan during their very own set. Check out Seb’s story below:

“Rancid are great. They’re great as ever. […] My favorite thing about Rancid is that they truly don’t give a fuck. And you know what I’m talking about. Cause there was a time when Simple Plan’s career was coming up [and] some people just didn’t think we were very cool. Yeah, a lot of people were like: ‘Simple Plan are ‘meh’… they shouldn’t be on Warped Tour.. they shouldn’t be this, they shouldn’t be that, they’re not this, they’re not that.’ blah blah blah. We didn’t really care, cause we kept doing our music and we had a lot of fans in front of us. And that’s the people we usually care about. Rancid was the kind of band that would show up on Warped Tour in front of their mohawk frenzied pissed off dudes.. and would wear Simple Plan t-shirts. And that was just amazing, you know?

And we played recently together in Austria, at Nova Rock festival and they just came up to us and said ‘Hey, guys, good to see you! How’s everybody?’ […]”

Final Warped Tour dates: Detroit and Chicago

Sadly, Simple Plan’s short stay in the United States is over. The guys finished their Warped Tour appearance with the tourdates in Detroit, MI and Chicago, IL on Friday and Saturday and will now be heading to Canada for their more upcoming concerts there.

It’s fair to say that the reactions to Simple Plan shows – both from the attendees and also from the organizers – have been extremely positive. Not only have they been called the best live band on Warped Tour this year on many occasions, but also Kevin Lyman, the founder of Warped Tour, for took the time to state on Twitter the following: “Two words describe Simple Plan: “class act”. New bands can learn from an organization like them.”

In the gallery you can now check out some of the pictures from the backstage of both Detroit and Chicago:

And here are the pictures from the shows itself:

Simple Plan film music video for “Boom” on Warped Tour!

Even though Simple Plan’s first officially released song from their upcoming yet-untitled fifth album was the song “Saturday”, the band has already confirmed many times in the past that this song will not be the first official single from this new album. Instead, the honors of being the first official single will go to “Boom”, which Simple Plan first premiered acoustically at their Simple Plan Foundation event last year and since July also performed it a couple times live and non-acoustically. It has been confirmed by a number of tweets [1, 2, 3] that Simple Plan filmed the Warped Tour crowd in Detroit, MI during “Boom” for their new music video.

And that’s not all! It seems the video will not only consist of the shots of the crowd and the band (as it was for example in “The Rest Of Us” music video), but it may also feature some special guests as well! A new video was posted on Instagram last night, in which you can see Simple Plan filming a couple of Warped Tour musicians/roadies (in particular Kenny Leath from Warped Roadies and model Robyn Barnsdale) rocking out to and singing the song “Boom” on camera in a truck.
