Alternative Press had the exclusive opportunity to stream a brand new full track “Farewell” (feat. Jordan Pundik) from Simple Plan’s new album “Taking One For The Team”! Here’s what the band had to say about this song:
“Farewell” is one of the last songs we wrote and recorded for our new album Taking One For The Team and definitely a favorite for us! It combines a lot of classic, old-school, pop-punk vibes, with some more modern influences from all of the newer bands coming into the scene. We really love that post-chorus melody with the awesome guitar riff Jeff plays and the breakdown drum beat—it’s heavy but so catchy! One of the highlights of this album is having our good friend Jordan from New Found Glory make an appearance on this track. He sounds so good singing that second verse; the melody suits him perfectly, and it sounds rad and exciting when he comes in for his part. He really killed it, and we’re proud to have him sing with us. Lyrically, at first glance, this feels like a straight up, bittersweet breakup song, and in a way it is, but while we were writing it, we were also channeling a lot of different emotions and there’s a second hidden, deeper meaning to every line that relates to being in a band. We’ll let you guys figure that one out!”
-Pierre, Chuck, Seb, Jeff and David

And of course, I already prepared the lyrics for you (if there are any mistakes, please let me know!):
Farewell
Farewell
Didn’t mean to let you…
After all these wasted nights
I can’t pretend that I’m doing fine
I’ve played it back a thousand times
But now I see it
And I realize
That the damage is done and it’s obvious
We can never go back to the way it was
We’re drifting apart and it’s killing us
It’s killing us
Farewell
Didn’t mean to let you..
Let you down
Mess it up
We both knew we couldn’t last forever
It’s coming down
I’ve had enough
I guess we crumbled under all the pressure
Did my best
For what it’s worth
And I gave you all this heart can give so
Farewell
I didn’t mean to let you
Down
Down
There was a time you’d scream my name
It used to be my getaway
Now all we do is just complain
Maybe I’m the one to blame
But the damage is done and it’s obvious
We can never go back to the way it was
We’re drifting apart and it’s killing us
It’s killing us
Farewell
Didn’t mean to let you..
Let you down
Mess it up
We both knew we couldn’t last forever
It’s coming down
I’ve had enough
I guess we crumbled under all the pressure
Did my best
For what it’s worth
And I gave you all this heart can give so
Farewell
I didn’t mean to let you
Down
Down
It’s such
A shame
How did we end up this way
We can’t go back
And things will never be the same
All hopes faded
Is this what you wanted?
Is this what you wanted?
Farewell
I didn’t mean to let you..
Let you down
Mess it up
We both knew it couldn’t last forever
It’s coming down
I’ve had enough
I guess we crumbled under all the pressure
Did my best
For what it’s worth
And I gave you all this heart can give, so
Farewell
Didn’t mean to let you
Farewell
Didn’t mean to let you
Down
Down
(Farewell)
During their rehearsals a couple weeks ago, the members of Simple Plan let a reporter from Radio Canada join them in their rehearsal space and talk to them about their new album, the changes that the music industry went through in the last decade and more. A very interesting part of the interview was when the reporter brought up the topic of the terrorist attack at the Bataclan venue in Paris, France that took place last November.
You may recall that Simple Plan were supposed to play in Paris just a couple days after the tragedy and were in fact supposed to be leaving the day after it happened, but canceled their plans after the security situation in France didn’t allow them to safely get there.
But according to this new Radio-Canada interview, David actually initially planned to get to Paris earlier and to attend the Eagles Of Death Metal concert at Bataclan on the tragic night. However, the members of SP had to attend the Simple Plan Foundation dinner with the auction winners that night, so he could not leave to Paris earlier. “It’s strange… life didn’t want me to be there,” said David (big thanks to Raph for the translation).
Below, you can watch the full French interview that is available on Radio-Canada along with some other quotes from the band members that appeared in the accompanying article.
“The band comes first. We all have to make small sacrifices here and there, and Taking One For The Team is a really symbolic thing in the sports terminology, where the important thing is that in the end, everything is done for the team to win.” – Seb Lefebvre
“Finding out who we want to be in 2016, after 17 years of career, having experienced different styles, with the musical context that is evolving and new artists doing new things, it took a long time.” – Chuck Comeau
“Fatherhood inspires me to be just right. It is an aspiration, I do not want to disappoint [my children], I do not want to stumble.” – Jeff Stinco
“It is sure that if you sell 3 million albums, it helps, but it has never been the biggest thing for us. Our shows are our trademark, and albums have often been our business cards.” – Pierre Bouvier
“We had many difficult times together, personally or professionally. I would say that these moments, because we got through them by supporting each other, make our relationship much deeper and more solid now. So we’re going to have fun doing it and people will have fun listening to us and come see us live, and we will continue for as long as possible.” – Chuck Comeau
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Simple Plan released a preview of one of the most romantic songs on their new record, which is called “Perfectly Perfect”. Besides Pierre and Chuck, this song was also co-written by Tom Higgenson from Plain White T’s.

You think you’re clumsy
I think you’re cool
You say you’re typical
But I think you rule
Sometimes I wonder if you’ll ever believe that
I wrote this song for you
And the other published lyrics go:
You’re perfectly perfect to me
