Swedish musician Jens Lekman recounts being mistaken for Jeff Stinco in Tokyo

Simple Plan weren’t the only ones, who recently graced Japan with their presence. The Swedish musician Jens Lekman had a show in Tokyo on October 17th, right during SP’s stay in the capital.

During his show, Lekman recounted a funny anecdote that happened to him earlier that day, which SimplePlan.cz got ahold of thanks to the fans attending his concert. In it, Lekman admitted to being mistakenly recognized by a fan… who thought he was Jeff Stinco. And you can’t blame her – they both rock the same awesome haircut. :)

Check out what Jens said at his concert below:

“When I got off the taxi in front of the venue, there was a girl who came closer to me and started to take pictures with me, crying. I got a letter from her too, and I thought: ‘I finally became a super star!’ But when I opened the seal, there was a letter addressed to the members of Simple Plan, who were staying around the corner that day.”

Josh Ramsay (Marianas Trench): “Simple Plan taught us how to be a classy headliner”

The members of Marianas Trench recently did an interview for the website The Charlatan, in which they were (amongst other things) also asked about their touring times with Simple Plan back in 2011 and 2012 as a supporting act [U.S. and Canadian tour]. In his answer, the lead singer of Marianas Trench, Josh Ramsay, gave away the biggest lesson they’ve learnt from Simple Plan that they’ve been trying to apply on their own tours ever since.

Check out what the lesson was in the following excerpt from this interview:

The Charlatan: What sort of lessons did you learn from [touring with Simple Plan], and what sort of lessons do you apply to the bands and artists that tour with you guys now?

Josh Ramsay: Just sort of how to be a classy headliner. Whenever there’s a band on tour opening for us, the first show, we always leave a bottle of champagne in their dressing room and say “welcome to the tour,” and that’s something we learned from them.

A new Canadian youth novel to feature Simple Plan as characters & Chuck Comeau pens the preface!

The third (and final) installment of the “La fraternité du rock” book series by France Gosselin, entitled “La fraternité du rock: Radio rebelle” (In translation: ‘The Brotherhood of Rock: Rebel Radio’), which follows the journey of a young man called Canisse, who’d dream is to become a drummer in a rock band, is set to be released on September 16th – and it will feature a group of characters we’re quite familiar with over here at SimplePlan.cz!

Indeed – the members of Simple Plan will play an important role as characters in the plot of this youth novel. According to the interview for Journal de Quebec with France Gosselin, the author of the book, the Simple Plan plot of the story was inspired by her meeting with the band at Festivent in 2015.

According to the author’s words, the members of Simple Plan have already been given the book and approved of the passages featuring their band.

A small reference to Simple Plan is also made on the cartoon cover of the book, in which one of the characters can be seen sporting an “SP” hat.

And that’s not where Simple Plan’s involvement with the book ends – Chuck Comeau not only invited the author to the band’s upcoming show in Quebec City, but even offered to pen the preface for the book. According to Chuck, the book reminds him of the times when his on band was just starting out in his parents’ basement.

Patent Pending about touring with Simple Plan: “We are so excited!”

Only one band out of the three opening bands that are currently on the U.S. tour with Simple Plan, have never officially toured them before (if we don’t count Warped Tour and a one-off show in NYC) – and that’s Patent Pending. Ironically, they are the one band out of those three, who actually made a song asking Simple Plan to take them on tour [remind yourselves of this video from 2011 here].

And it was precisely this song that Patent Pending’s lead singer Joe Ragosta discussed in a recent interview with Brad LaPlante alongside mentioning how excited he and his bandmates were to start touring with SP. Check out this interview, which was filmed on the day of the first show of this tour in Grand Rapids, MI below:

Interviewer: Are you guys excited?
Joe: Dude, we’re so excited!
Interviewer: I mean, Simple Plan’s a big deal.
Joe: In 2011, we were on Warped Tour with Simple Plan and we did this thing, where we wrote a song.. [Danny Vance interrupts the interview]… we put out a video called ‘An Open Letter To Simple Plan’. And it was a song that I wrote on a bus at Warped Tour. And we gave them a DVD of it and put it on the Internet. And it was a silly song for Simple Plan to take us on tour. And then they finally did 6 years later.
Interviewer: That’s amazing. You did it! You did it! It’s a full circe!
Joe: I’m very excited!

Bass player of The Vamps picks up his new No Pads vinyl

The Canadian Universal Music’s Twitter account revealed yesterday that the record label took the members of the popular British band The Vamps record shopping and the picture they posted revealed to us that one of the band members actually picked up a record quite known to us!

Yes, Connor Ball, the bass player for The Vamps bought a copy of the brand new limited edition of Simple Plan’s ‘No Pads, No Helmets… Just Balls’ vinyl and proudly posed with it along side other purchases (such as Twenty One Pilots or Green Day) on the photo taken by Universal. We like his taste!

It also seems like they filmed an episode of the label’s series “The LP Spree” at the record store, which could potentially mean the band members discussing Simple Plan’s debut album. We’ll keep you updated when it comes out!

In the meantime, check out the aforementioned picture below:
