Dave Franco quotes Simple Plan’s ‘I’d Do Anything’ in a new Netflix movie

Ever since 2002, Simple Plan’s first single from their debut album – the song ‘I’d Do Anything’ has been deeply engraved in the minds of millions of people and still continues to be one of Simple Plan’s most recognizable tunes.

Big thanks to our very observative reader Yva we have now found out that a reference to this song has been made in a newly released Netflix film, co-produced by Channing Tatum, called 6 Balloons, which follows the struggles of Katie (Abbi Jacobson), who’s brother Seth (Dave Franco) is addicted to heroin.

Towards the movie’s end, around its 64th minute, the two siblings get into a car, where Dave Franco’s character tries to remember the words to the song ‘I’d Do Anything’ by Simple Plan, while his sister tries to make him stop and listen to her instead.

Check out the full conversation featuring the song’s lyrics below:

Katie: When I’m with you, all I see is you.
Seth: … What song is that?
Seth: *sings* I close my eyes…
Katie: Stop it.
Seth: *continues singing* And all I see is you..
Katie: Stop!
Seth: *continues singing* I close my eyes…
Katie: Stop it. Jesus, stop!
Seth: *continues singing* I try to sleep, I can’t forget you…

Jeff Stinco delivered a solo performance of ‘Promise’ on En Direct de l’Univers

On Saturday night in Canada, Jeff Stinco appeared in the episode of the show En Direct de l’Univers, which celebrated the birthday of one of Canada’s most beloved comedians – Phil Roy.

In the show, Jeff appeared as a surprise guest, who in honor of Phil Roy, performed for the first time ever a guitar solo of ‘Promise’ (Simple Plan’s song from their second record ‘Still Not Getting Any…’) without the rest of his band. Jeff was only accompanied by a group of singers singing the chorus of the song.

Thanks to our reader Janie, you can now watch Jeff’s brilliant solo performance of ‘Promise’ on the video below:

Silverstein singer tells a Red Light District story from touring with Simple Plan

Eyes Closed Blog recently interviewed Shane Told, the lead singer from the Canadian band Silverstein, who still reminisces about the 2006 European tour Simple Plan, where Silverstein opened for SP. In the interview Shane revealed a story about the two bands hanging out after the show in Hamburg, Germany, and how they once decided to hit the infamous local Red Light District.

Check out Shane’s story below:

“I remember it like it was yesterday – one of my favorite tours ever. […] I just think… those guys, you know, we’re a bunch of Canadians hanging out in Europe. And these shows were crazy big and those guys just love to have fun, you know?

And I remember when we were in Hamburg specifically… you know, Hamburg’s known for the Red Light District. And there’s this one particular Burger King restaurant that’s like in the Reeperbahn, where all the like prostitutes hang out. And they were telling us about this Burger King and I was like ‘Oh, that’s crazy, that’s so weird!’ And David from Simple Plan was like: ‘We gotta go! We gotta go check it out!’ and I’m like: ‘Really? Alright!’ So we just went there, just to go look at the Red Light District and the… hookers.

So there you go. That’s what we did after you saw our bands, we went and… we didn’t buy any hookers or anything – let’s not get mixed up here. We were just… window-shopping.”
