Last night Simple Plan performed at the first sold-out show in Seattle (with second show added for tonight) at Neptune Theatre and 2 800 people gathered there to witness quite a special show!
The best part came in the middle of the No Pads set, when after ‘God Must Hate Me’ the band welcomed their old friend Mike Herrera from MXPX on stage and together they performed the song ‘Responsibility’ by MXPX. You may recall that the last time Simple Plan performed this song with Mike was at the 2015 APMAs.
After the show, Mike wrote on Instagram about being reunited with his old friends from Simple Plan:
“So good to see my Simple Plan dudes. We toured together years ago and have shared the stage many times. These guys are all-pro legends! Thanks for the hospitality guys! I love you guys!! Go see this show – there’s a lot of killer music packed into one night!
The setlist of the show was therefore one song longer and looked like this:
1. I’d Do Anything
2. The Worst Day Ever
3. You Don’t Mean Anything
4. I’m Just A Kid
5. When I’m With You
6. Meet You There
7. Addicted
8. My Alien
9. God Must Hate Me
10. Responsibility (MXPX cover)
11. I Won’t Be There
12. One Day
13. Grow Up
14. Perfect
Encore:
15. Shut Up!
16. Jump
17. Boom
18. Your Love Is A Lie
19. This Song Saved My Life
20. Crazy
21. Welcome To My Life

As the boys have put it: “Last night in Las Vegas was a movie…so we made one for you!” Check out the brand new vlog documenting Simple Plan’s short stay in Vegas:
Besides their Vegas vlogs, Pierre and Sebastien also filmed a little skit referencing their “ok cafêï” club (named after the t-shirt Pierre, Seb and Chady own). How does one actually pronounce “cafêï” though? Find out below:
After the close call of leaving Texas right before hurricane Harvey devastatingly hit this state, having to postpone the two shows there and after a couple days off, Simple Plan once again got back on stage on Monday to continue with their 15th anniversary No Pads tour. Thanks to Jenna and her recounts from the past two shows that she’s attended, you can now read up below on what went on in the SP world in the past two days.
Flagstaff, AZ
The first stop of the week led Simple Plan to Flagstaff, AZ, to where Chuck and Pierre flew from California, as they decided to return home to their families with the three additional days off due to show cancelations. Unfortunately their flights back were delayed, which meant that the SP Crew soundcheck attendees only got to meet Jeff and Sebastien. Nevertheless, the duo definitely made it up to them and everyone left the soundcheck very happy.
It was the first time on this tour that not two, but three opening bands performed, with the recent addition of The Bottom Line (alongside Patent Pending and Set It Off). And it wasn’t just that what made that night in Arizona so memorable. A couple with their 5-year-old child actually got invited on stage by the band, after Pierre saw the sign in the crowd that said “I skipped first grade today to get on stage” – which in the end turned into a marriage proposal of the child’s parents (spoiler alert: she said yes). Funny enough, the song that was on the setlist right after the proposal was “Your Love Is A Lie”, which Pierre commented by saying: ‘The fact that there was just a proposal followed by that song was a complete accident… it had nothing to do with you two.’
Las Vegas, NV
The following day, Simple Plan headed to Las Vegas, NV, where they were to play at the almost sold-out Brooklyn Bowl. During soundcheck, Pierre once again brought up a cover of Green Day’s ‘Time Of Your Life’… that is, until he forgot the lyrics…
The uniqueness of this show for one reason lied in the absence of David – most importantly due to the fact that it was his birthday that day. Of course, his bandmates did not forget this special day and made sure their friend knew he was loved as they made the whole crowd sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to David. Maureen captured this special moment for SP.cz on the video below:
Both shows followed the same setlist as we’ve published for the previous U.S. shows earlier. This is what it looked like:
1. I’d Do Anything
2. The Worst Day Ever
3. You Don’t Mean Anything
4. I’m Just A Kid
5. When I’m With You
6. Meet You There
7. Addicted
8. My Alien
9. God Must Hate Me
10. I Won’t Be There
11. One Day
12. Grow Up
13. Perfect
Encore:
14. Shut Up!
15. Jump
16. Boom
17. Your Love Is A Lie
18. This Song Saved My Life
19. Crazy
20. Welcome To My Life
And finally – come check out the first pictures from these two shows in Flagstaff and Las Vegas in our gallery:
Only one band out of the three opening bands that are currently on the U.S. tour with Simple Plan, have never officially toured them before (if we don’t count Warped Tour and a one-off show in NYC) – and that’s Patent Pending. Ironically, they are the one band out of those three, who actually made a song asking Simple Plan to take them on tour [remind yourselves of this video from 2011 here].
And it was precisely this song that Patent Pending’s lead singer Joe Ragosta discussed in a recent interview with Brad LaPlante alongside mentioning how excited he and his bandmates were to start touring with SP. Check out this interview, which was filmed on the day of the first show of this tour in Grand Rapids, MI below:
Interviewer: Are you guys excited? Joe: Dude, we’re so excited! Interviewer: I mean, Simple Plan’s a big deal. Joe: In 2011, we were on Warped Tour with Simple Plan and we did this thing, where we wrote a song.. [Danny Vance interrupts the interview]… we put out a video called ‘An Open Letter To Simple Plan’. And it was a song that I wrote on a bus at Warped Tour. And we gave them a DVD of it and put it on the Internet. And it was a silly song for Simple Plan to take us on tour. And then they finally did 6 years later. Interviewer: That’s amazing. You did it! You did it! It’s a full circe! Joe: I’m very excited!
Thanks to Emilie, SimplePlan.cz prepared a short recap of the long-awaited and recently released documentary Vie de tournée, who’s new episode focuses on Simple Plan, their Brazilian tour and includes extensive interviews with all band members.
Instead of a complete full translation (since the video is 45 minutes long), we opted for a recap, which will give you an insight into some of the interesting bits that were discussed in this TV special:
Fatherhood & being in a relationship
– It’s always tough to leave their kids at home and go on tour. For Chuck, the band has always been his priority but now that he has a kid, his priorities have slightly changed.
– The tour life can be very hard especially for those, who are in serious relationships. A few years ago, Jeff went through a difficult separation from the mother of his two daughters (Zoe and Maya). She was there since the beginning of Simple Plan. It felt like a big failure to him. Jeff struggled with this change in his life quite a lot. It always took him several days to adapt to being at home alone after the tour, but he has learnt a lot and the guys helped him.
– The guys adapted their tours to their fatherhood and David had to follow the lead. He feels like he lives a completely different live than them, because he’s single. But even though he has no children of his own, he loves kids and says the guys have beautiful children.
Touring without David
– The tour in South America this documentary revolves around (December 2016) was the first tour without David. He said that his body was letting him know it was very tired, so he listened to the signs. He needed to step back. For him touring includes way too much movement and it doesn’t allow him to feel grounded at the same place long enough. So he tries to slow down as much as possible. During the guys’ tour in Brazil, he went to his mother’s home in Matane to recharge himself.
– The other guys were initially afraid of not having David on tour, but they quickly changed their attitude on how to solve this problem. Logistically, it’s very complicated to do a tour in Brazil, so they really didn’t want to cancel it – plus, they really wanted to go. According to the guys, it’s always very special to be in Brazil, there is a big buzz around the band, big excitement that they find in other countries too, but here’s it’s accentuated, crazier and more chaotic.
– The guys had a meeting on how it will work without David. They explained that David had pre-recorded the bass tracks except for the first album, so Seb was going to play bass and Chady guitar on some songs.
– David focused on the positives messages that he’s received. Someone even sent him a video of Pierre on stage, where he said: “Sing louder, so that David can hear you!” It touched him very much.
Tour life’s tolls on life
– Sometimes it’s hard to find a balance on tour. For Pierre, it’s to accept that there is no balance. When he doesn’t want to get up to catch a flight but he has no choice, he takes a deep breath. The guys take it one day at a time, one show at a time, even one hour at a time.
– This tour was the Pierre’s first return on stage after their previous Canadian tour being canceled due to Pierre’s vocal chords problems. He spent 2 weeks without saying a word, the third week he spoke a little and the fourth week he began to practice and warm his voice. The guys supported him – they only canceled shows 3-4 times in 15 years.
– Sometimes there are some tensions between the members of the band, especially between Pierre and Chuck. One example being having to often wait for Pierre to do the encore. Chuck wants everything for the shows to be by the book.
A little too devoted Brazilian fans
– In Brazil and other countries in Latin America, it often happens that the fans stay at the same hotel as SP. It’s more accepted to be a fanatic there. But when is it just too much? According to SP, it depends – sometimes they can handle a lot, they have the energy to do it, but sometimes they know just after waking up that is not a good day.
– Seb discussed the obsession of some fans to have pictures with them everytime, even if they meet them multiple times in one day: “We see some fans at the airport, take a picture with them, it’s cool. Then we go to the hotel, the same fans are there, we take a picture, cool. Then the soundcheck party, take another picture, the stage is behind, it’s different. Then the VIP party, we can talk some more there, it’s fantastic. But then they arrive to our hotel, it’s late, we want to go to bed because we have to get up early the next day, and the same fans are there – so maybe that picture is a little too much…”
