In the last month, the attention of all the media has shifted to the community of young gay men. The reason is that in the last month alone four teenage boys (aged 13, 13, 15 and 18 years) commited suicide after being bullied because of their sexual orientation:

– Seth Walsh (13) from Bakersfield, CA hung himself on a tree because of being bullied at school for several years
– Asher Brown (13) shot himself after being mocked at school for being gay
– William Lucas (15) hung himself because of being constantly threatened by schoolmates and laughed at because of his sexual orientation
– Tyler Clementi (18) drowned himself after finding out his roommate posted online a video of Tyler having sex with another man

Many celebrities commented on these horrifying news since then – some, like Ellen DeGeneres were on the LGBT community’s side and said this must be a wake-up call for everyone that teenage bullying is a serious problem, and others, such as rapper 50 Cent, openly stated their homophobic opinions…

Chuck from Simple Plan took to his Twitter today to also express himself and sent a very inspiring message to many people:

“Been reading a lot about this wave of suicides of young gay men. So heartbreaking and devastating that this still happens in 2010. Homophobia is repulsive and so lame. How can people lower themselves to hating someone because of their sexual orientation? Pathetic.

To anyone who is going thru a tough time, is getting bullied or is feeling like there’s no way out, it gets better, I promise you. Seek help, talk to a friend, listen to a song you love. Life is the most precious gift you have.
