Despite hurricane warnings, Simple Plan weekend shows in Texas are still a go

UPDATE: The Houston show has now officially been postponed – the band is working on a rescheduled date. More information can be found here.

Today, the oncoming hurricane Harvey is expected to hit the state of Texas, which has triggered warnings for floods, heavy rainfall and strong wind in the area. According to the CNN, the hurricane has now strengthened to category 2 with winds up to 100 mph (there are 5 categories of hurricanes, with category 5 being the highest – e.g. Katrina in 2005).

As it happens, Simple Plan’s tour has unfortunately just lead the band to Dallas, Texas last night and today they are supposed to perform in Houston and in Austin on Saturday. As of right now the shows are still scheduled as planned, while the band is monitoring the situation closely. Of course, this situation can change very rapidly, so keep your eyes on SimplePlan.cz for more development.

The band updated their latest Instragram post with an official statement regarding hurricane Harvey. Read it below:

“Houston – we’re aware of the Hurricane Harvey warnings for [today] and we’re monitoring the situation. We are in contact with the local promoter in Houston and as of right now, we are planning on playing the show as planned. We will continue to assess the situation overnight and tomorrow all day and if anything changes, we will inform everyone right away. If you are planning to travel to attend the concert, please be safe.”

In the comment section, the band also mentioned that the situation is the same for the upcoming show in Austin, stating that all remaining shows are still planned to take place and if anything were to change, the band will inform everyone as soon as possible.
