Flashback: 13 years since Simple Plan’s first live show (without David)

While I usually like to keep you updated on Simple Plan’s various anniversaries only on SP.cz’s Facebook page and Twitter page, I thought this anniversary deserved it’s own post. Exactly 13 years ago, on January 22nd 2000, Simple Plan played their very first show under this stage name, which they only came up with a couple days before that in a rush because they needed a band name to represent them on the show. Or well, the four of them – because at that time David was not yet in the band. On the contrary, he’s just been hired to Reset at that point.

Graeme Humfrey, who helped the band produce their first demo (to send out to record companies), suggested the name “Simple Plan” after the 1998 movie “A Simple Plan”, starring Billy Bob Thornton. At first the band thought they would just use it once and later change it, but their decided to stick with it. The show took place in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu and the band recorded it and sent it out to record labels in order to let them know how they are live.

David’s first official show with Simple Plan was a year later, on February 3rd 2001.
