Saturday NOT to be featured on Simple Plan’s new album

In the past couple of months, we’ve had quite a lot of new Simple Plan songs coming up, which we assumed would be featured on the upcoming 5th Simple Plan album. And with many of them we were right, however one of the released songs will not be featured on the record after all.

During his late-night Q&A session on Twitter, Chuck revealed that “Saturday”, the first released song from the 70+ songs Simple Plan wrote for their new album, is just a teaser and will not be on the much anticipated Simple Plan album.

In addition to that, Chuck also confirmed that the band is currently in the process of writing “a few more old-school rock songs to include on the new album for [their] old-school fans”. The (yet untitled) album should overall be a mix of pop and rock songs, very fun and in the vibe of their first, second and fourth record.

Simple Plan shed light on upcoming single and already released songs

In another interview from Open Air Gampel in Switzerland, Pierre and Jeff got talking a little bit more about what all the fans are excited the most about: the new album. The band has been working on it for almost two years now and only recently started releasing first songs that may appear on it. And while the songs Saturday and Boom were sometimes mistakenly called the first singles, the boys confirmed in this interview that this is not really the case.

Check out what Jeff had to say about the released songs, upcoming first single (coming out in October/November) and the concept of its video and finally the new album’s release:

“We’re basically giving songs away right now to our fans because we wanna be kind of forgiven for taking that long to put the record out, so Saturday was one of the first, you know, releases. It’s not necessarily a single, you know, it’s just a song that we gave to our fans. Same thing with Boom. And our single is actually going to come out probably in November. So we just shot a video for it, we shot a video for Boom as well. Boom is really just a fun performance in our hometown in Montreal with crazy fans, you know, going nuts for the show. And I would say the next song, I almost named it but it’s a secret still, is a pretty funny video, you know. It’s kind of a spoof on a funny TV show. That’s as much as I’m gonna say now. So, basically, we’re just gonna release songs until we actually get to the single and then to the record. The record’s probably gonna come at the end of the year or the beginning of 2016.”

MINI NEWS: “Saturday” NOT Simple Plan’s first single and more!

Even though many sources claimed so in the past, the first fully released song “Saturday” from Simple Plan’s upcoming (yet-untitled) fifth album, is in fact NOT the band’s first single from this album, just a teaser song, just like “You Suck At Love” was released early on during the GYHO era (however “Jet Lag” was the first official single). Simple Plan themselves confirmed this information in a couple replies on Twitter yesterday, saying: “Saturday is just a teaser since everyone waited so long! Can’t wait to show you our first single!”

As “Saturday” previously caused an uproar among many fans due to its “poppy” sound, this may come as very welcome news to some. It means that there will be a completely different song, which will be put on radios (although “Saturday” is being played on some already) and most importantly for which we can expect a full-on music video. Whether the next song the band plans to release this week is the new single is currently unknown.

Speaking of music videos – according to another reply from the official Simple Plan Twitter account, the band will be “filming a few videos in the next bit.” What’s interesting is that the account mentioned “a few” music videos, not just one. It may be that to save time and money, Simple Plan may film a couple of music videos in a course of a few days, which will then be released one by one throughout the year.

You may recall that Simple Plan did this once before during the GYHO era, when they filmed music videos for “Can’t Keep My Hands Off You”, “Jet Lag” and also “Astronaut” very close to each other before releasing the first one. This is helpful mostly because the band then wants to get back on tour and returning back to filming locations would be time and money consuming. This way they can have the videos backed up to release them when the right time comes.

Final mini-news is David related. If you don’t follow David on Instagram or Twitter, you may not know that a few weeks ago David took up a course on skydiving at Parachutisme Nouvel Air and 5 days ago he made his first official solo jump [see picture here]. David’s reasoning for this adrenalin-filled activity is simple: “The reason I’m doing this is I want to be able to get my own rig and travel the world with it so I can see the places we go to from the best angle there is… It is live Google Earth!”

Listen to Simple Plan’s brand new song – “Saturday”!

SIMPLEPLAN.CZ NOTE: “Saturday” is not the first single, only a teaser track [more info here].

The brand new Simple Plan song that we expected a little later on this week has arrived much sooner than we all expected! The band just released it on Spotify and also YouTube, where you can stream it right now. You can also buy it on iTunes or Google Play.

As you can hear, the song clearly uses a sample from Bay City Rollers’ song “Saturday Night”. This could be one of the 70s and 80s music influences, the band has previously stated influenced some of the songs on their new record. Speaking of the 80s – Journey’s song ‘Don’t Stop Believin’, which is referenced in the lyrics of Simple Plan’s new song, is also from this era.

What do you think of Saturday? Excited for the rest of the record?

Also, thanks to Corey, here are the lyrics to the song:

Saturday

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y NIGHT
S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y NIGHT

Ticking like a time-bomb, Waiting for the weekend
(Saturday night, Saturday night)
People throw their hands up, Higher than the ceiling
(Saturday night, Saturday night)

I can see the line up,
Running round the whole block
(Saturday night, Saturday night)
Coming through the window,
I can hear the bass drop
(Saturday night, Saturday night)

We don’t have to go,
We can stay right here.

We can go get drunk, staying up all night
Singing ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ till the morning light
We can line up shots till it all goes bad
And we’re passed out and puking in a taxi cab.

When your lying here by my side, nowhere else feels right.
I’d rather be alone with you on Saturday night

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y NIGHT

This is gonna be a night so epic
(Saturday night, Saturday night)
You and me baby nothing but Netflix
(Saturday night, Saturday night)
We don’t have to go,
We can stay right here.

We can go get drunk, staying up all night
Singing ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ till the morning light
We can line up shots till it all goes bad
And we’re passed out and puking in a taxi cab.

When your lying here by my side, nowhere else feels right
I’d rather be alone with you on Saturday night
(Saturday night, Saturday night)

If we ever get bored, if we get restless
(Saturday night, Saturday night)
We can get dressed up, let’s get epic
S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y

We can go get drunk, staying up all night
Singing ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ till the morning light
We can line up shots till it all goes bad
And we’re passed out and puking in a taxi cab.

We’ll stop at every bar on the boulevard
Till we’ve maxed out the limits on our credit cards.
Cuz when I got you here by my side
Everything feels right,
As long as it’s me and you on Saturday night
S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y

Simple Plan possibly reveal new single’s title: “Saturday”!

SIMPLEPLAN.CZ NOTE: “Saturday” is not the first single, only a teaser track [more info here].

Today (coincidentally on a Saturday), Simple Plan started spamming their fans’ feeds on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook with the image you can see on the left. This image, which features the word “Saturday” repeatedly in blue on a black background, seems to be very similar to Simple Plan’s previous artworks for their singles.

There is only a little doubt now that the title “Saturday” may be connected to the upcoming new song/single, which is to be released this coming Wednesday at 8pm in the Man Of The Hour show on Idobi radio – and maybe it may even be its title.

What are your thoughts on the possible newly revealed song-title. What could “Saturday” be about?
